Yea, seen shows about the disorder so to speak and some places are pretty maxed out space wise where it a challenge to walk around the place inside any. the shows do get help and o help clear them out some or all of it as they help owner get past the hassles and all. but it good when the owner finally comes to terms and let all the help clear stuff to see a actuall house again not so full of stuff .
Yes it is. Sadly it runs in my family...They are collectors, but then it gets out of hand and it starts to become trash and filth. Then bizarrely enough when the house gets so bad, they ultimately lose everything that was so 'precious' to them and couldn't throw out.
That's true. I saw an episode of hoarders on TLC and one lady had such an emotional attachment to THINGS. She explained that she was lonely and that was all she had was her things. It filled a void in her life. It's definitely a mental issue.

I cleaned out a few hoarder houses when I was in my 20's I did what Kevin's "first sweep" used to do. Take whatever had value and lighten up the load. I mostly went after metals and sold it to scrap yards. I generally went after metal heavy hoards like shops and barns full of auto scrap and scrap cars. I gutted out a few grow operations, and those are frigging money! heavy gage copper wires and stainless steel tables, aluminum frames etc. I scrapped satellite dishes (the really old school ones that were gigantic) I took down greenhouses and above ground pools. One guy that collected aluminum screen doors kept me busy for weeks! I took apart hundreds of the things and stripped them down to aluminum extrusions. Brass and bronze is worth tons of money, I got some old solid brass railings one time, they were worth thousands just as melt. Scrap metal was worth a lot more back then, prices are really bad now, its hard to make worthwhile money at it these days.
Fantastic makeover. Also, the way you handled the clearing of the house was genius. My 15 year old daughter wants to have a career in real estate, so I told her about your channel. Really enjoyed this video, so I'm going to share it. Thanks.
My mom is a hoarder, is really sad, I try my best to help her, but it is hard to make her understand that she doesn't and won't need some random shoe box, (e.g.). Her house is not messy as this house you showed. I wish people knew how serious and how much it can affect someone life to be a hoarder.
I love the way you went about getting rid of all of the previous tenants items. I appreciate that you were thoughtful and the finished product looks terrific.

I guess you just have to live in California to understand the real estate market. Is it ridiculous? You bet it is! I can’t stress enough that this guy will be able turn a tidy profit on that house in probably two years or less. This is why he’s smart to cater to the rental market. The average family has been priced way out of an average home like this, thus more renters than buyers and especially so in desirable areas. So, when you see an influx of unwanted Californians moving to *your* state, instead of hating on them, show a little compassion. They want to own an affordable home just like the next guy.
Jess W No kidding, I always check out rental prices so that I can help determine what to charge at market value. I just saw a two bedroom home, one bath, on a rental site asking $2000 a month, and it was in Compton. Drive-by shootings and dead bodies in vacant lots. We just shake our heads.
Mattika Rosenthal, the Air B&B market is helping to deplete any affordable housing that might have existed. My son lives in the Bay Area. I have seen the homeless situation there which includes people who are going to work everyday. It seems like every homeowner in the Berkeley/Oakland area has either turned their 100+ year old garages into an Air B&B space or they are building a new space in order to cash in on that market. Meanwhile, under the freeway overpasses, tent cities are going up as a result of gentrification and it’s component short term rentals.
It would be interesting to know the back story on this but I’m thinking it may have been someone who passed away and the family simply wanted to be done with it or she may have gone into assisted living and, again, the family didn’t want to dig through it. The value of the contents probably was not worth the trouble to them. Besides, they more than likely made a tidy profit on the house alone. Especially if it was paid off.
Often these people get so sick, or have Alzeimer, Parkinson's disease and relatives have no place to put their belongings. As they know they don't remember their stuff anymore, they don't mind getting rid of it.
I was part of a team that cleaned up a hoarding house in Seattle. Probably 5 years back so I don't remember all the exact details. It took 13 dumpsters sized 40-Yard-Dumpster which is 8 feet wide x 19 feet long x 7 feet high. And 2 tons of recycled electronics. Scrap metal was separated, it wasn't much, I scrapped the metal. The neighbors were stopping by outside happy and thanking us.
Thanks for the video! I bought both those courses last month. Looking forward to learning from someone with massive experience in real estate. If you are serious about doing real estate and are on the fence, the justification for me was that multiple mistakes can cost you tons of money, way more than the cost of Kevin’s course. Graham Stephan shared a video about a tenant who grew drugs in his place and tried to kill him when he was just starting out so definitely don’t cheap out on knowledge. Yes, you can just google the information and sift through information, but in order to do that you have to know what to google. His course lays out all of that for you in chronological order. PS Yes he personally responds and it was pretty quick.
If you are in CA, wait till the next housing crash to invest, unless you have a lot of spare cash on hand. Otherwise in CA you'll buy high and have to rent below your cost. However, the exception is if you have a few hundred thousand dollars sitting in a savings account earning less than 1%/year. I believe Kevin got his start right after the last major housing crash, which would have given him the added momentum he has now going forward cash strong.

That's California for ya. They forbid most apartment constructions because it creates an aesthetic their government doesn't like, so housing is tough to come by. As a result, property values are through the roof. I'm sure the rent on this is no less than $3,000.
@@liutasllc6338 Still not worth it. Doesn't matter how much you make the less you spend the more money you have. I just bought a 4 bedroom 2 bath on 1.5 acres in the beautiful hills of WV for $9300 out the door. We have a lot of work to do, it's basically a frame on land but still even after dropping $40k to get it where we want it to be it will be significantly cheaper than something like this. I get it's about area but they are WAY over charging people to live in the area which is why the homeless population has raised in California. You pay $3k-6k a month to walk out of your house and see tent cities of homeless people who were basically forced out of their houses due to inflated rent and housing prices. Screw that I'll stay in country undeveloped WV for cheap and watch my property value increase as the surrounding areaa become more developed and established from people migrating from the expensive west coast to the cheaper east side.

A couple in my city bought a house to flip and posted an advert for an old sewing machine. I made an appointment to come by and see it, and after a few moments I realized that they had no idea what they had on their hands. I asked about their asking price and the husband said they "needed the space more than we need that machine" he asked me to make an offer since the machine needed some work. To make a long story short, I paid $70 for the table, the motor and a working PFAFF 145 H-3
If you ever buy a house like this again you should have a similar contest but offer a prize that you provide and give all the most valuable things back to the person who owns them. I'm sure they would be forever grateful and it would be a better look for your channel, in my opinion.
Misleading title that misleads people into thinking one of your properties was trashed. A hording tenant destroyed someone's $700,000 house. It didn't become yours until after the fact.
this house isnt worth 450k let alone the extra 60k he wasted, guy believes its worth 680k, but he was the only buyer dumb enough to buy it at 450k LOL. Since he cant sell it, he gonna keep it as a rental forever, LOL!
okiefreemen, apparently you aren’t familiar with property value in California. I don’ t know where this property is located but if it’s in Orange County (which it looks like to me) or LA County, that’s an average property value. That home probably sold in the $20k or less range when it was built in the late 1950’s but property in California does nothing but go up and up and up.
@@charlenecanchola6535 no I am familiar, crap properties like than one are not going to retain that kind of ridiculous pricing. You are buying a piece of land so why did he waste 50k fixing up a house that is not worth anything.
okiefreemen, like I said, you don’t understand the California real estate market. Sure, the house is older but arguably better built than the crap that’s being built now. I guarantee you that he will be able to turn around not too long from now and get $600k to $700k for that house and that lot. While there is plenty of property here in California in the most desirable areas (I.e. ocean view or darned close to it) where investors think nothing of sinking a few mil into the property and then they raise a perfectly fine home/mansion and build an even bigger, uglier McMansion, that kind of thing happens less often with the old tract homes like the one in this video. The rule of thumb is that the home should cost 3x the value of the lot. You can’t really justify that kind of investment in tract home neighborhood and/or with rental property. Trust me, even with what he has invested here, it’s money in the bank. Of course the average family here are more likely to be relegated to be his renters than able to buy a home like that in this price range, never mind the added improvements. The real winner here though is the original owner/hoarder. If she purchased that home new, she (or her estate) just made a lotta lot of money. Lol!
@@charlenecanchola6535 I understand your arguments, I just disagree on the future speculation, I think the majority of these low quality at absurd high prices will be decreasing in value.
Smhh this is really fuked up to watch. I get the rights of everyone involved when it comes to being evicted to purchasing it “as is”, but being a better person or having a fricken heart you would think to at least send the person back their valuable items. Especially their jewelry and possible family heirlooms. Smhh. They clearly already don’t have much to their name and i’m sure there were plenty of items with her information on it to find her. Shameful af.
Yup, I had You Tube on the TV while working and somehow a chain of Hoarders marathons started playing. I have a spotless house after seeing the first few episodes.
Please be more sensitive and don’t mock the former resident or reveal info about them. I know you did it unintentionally but you still did it. My dad is a hoarder, he has been diagnosed by a therapist with hoarding disorder. He got this way because he grew up dirt poor and didn’t know when he was going to get food to eat or necessary items so he would always save a little stash of stuff, no matter the condition. When I was growing up, we were not poor but not really middle class either but he would flip the fuck out if I threw away anything, even a broken binder that didn’t have the clips to hold paper anymore. My mom and I literally had to take our trash to work and school and throw it away there. Now that he’s older, it’s gotten worse and he isn’t open to changing his ways. He has a lot of trauma to address in his life and he’s not ready. I used to work in a foster home and several children there also were diagnosed with hoarding disorder and would hide snacks in their room because they grew up food insecure homes prior. It’s probably more common than you think. I know this house was gross and I know you tried to do something good by donating the items, just please next time don’t make a big show out of it. A home is a reflection of those inside and this person was clearly mentally ill. I think if you asked yourself if you handled this respectfully you would realize you missed the mark.
Quick cheap hack for cheap baseboards. Buy a half inch thick 4 feet by 8 feet MDF or similar wood sheet. Cut it into 4 inch strips and paint them white. Very cost effective and if you want to get creative you can router one side or add an indented cut one inch below the top of the base board.
@Angel Bulldog You misread my post. I did not wish anyone anything. I pointed out that the many pill bottles seem to indicate that the person was ill, and I asked why anyone would want to mock a sick person. Read posts carefully before you tespond--and make sure the person you respond to was the author of the post to which you respond. I did not author the post you seem to think I did. Please be more careful.
I don’t know how I ended up here, but why in the world would you allow people to come and take this person’s money? The proper thing would have been to put aside all the money and return it to its owner or their relative. Because it is clear that this person was clearly ill. Hoarding is a mental illness. You purchased this home most likely from this person. The owner was not your “tenant”.
@@anastasiacline6159 Yes they did. I agree. i just didn't feel they should have been laughing & carrying on while making this video. It can happen to anyone. It could be anyones family member. 😞
What? I'm really confused why everyone thinks anyone in this video is mocking the previous owner(s). Just because someone else had/has a problem doesn't mean other people are not allowed to be happy. It also doesn't mean you can't admit that the house is a mess. It is. Even those with the mental illness of hoarding need to acknowledge that living like that is unhealthy, unsanitary, and a mess. Kind of ridiculous to pretend otherwise. Also, laughter is frequently a way of expressing shock, or awe, but not necessarily approval, or disdain. I feel like you're purposefully skewing reality because you're particularly sensitive to the situation. You really shouldn't ask others to walk on egg-shells over your personal issues.
It is sad for sure!!! That poor soul must be beyond devastated!!! My father is a hoarder and wow he gets upset if one thing is removed from his home without his permission!!! Not laughing or mocking, but unless this person died, it is very likely they are already filling up the new space they are living in now. Hoarding is very serious and makes no sense to a rational person.

Actually, it is from something happening to them from an unresolved childhood trauma, it is an emotional issue,

The transformation videos are some of my favorite. Wow!

It looks more like a $70,000 house on a $630,000 lot in California.
no joke this place is a 100k house all day, this guy is all in for 510k, lies to himself claiming he can sell it for 680k but knows he cant so he keeps it forever as a rental. LOL
@@okiefreemen Smarmy, sleazy real estate manipulator. Came here from his political video on stimulus checks (stopped halfway thru, failure to get on with it syndrome). This is not valid human work, at all. 'Oh here, here is the breakfast nook, the schools are great, blah, blah, blah," lies, lies, lies. Check what the fire insurance on this dump covers!
Jess W
No kidding, I always check out rental prices so that I can help determine what to charge at market value.
Your face on the side of your Tesla, a true entrepreneur! Love the content Kev!
A plastic tub surround is a cheapy mobile home! Darn, where is the LOVELY green tile?
Even without knowing the previous tenant and knowing the full circumstances, I feel terrible for them not getting some of their items back.
Trust me they’re better off psychologically with all their stuff gone
It would be interesting to know the back story on this but I’m thinking it may have been someone who passed away and the family simply wanted to be done with it or she may have gone into assisted living and, again, the family didn’t want to dig through it. The value of the contents probably was not worth the trouble to them. Besides, they more than likely made a tidy profit on the house alone. Especially if it was paid off.
I wondered if that previous tenant died--otherwise she would have at least taken her meds, wouldn't she?
Often these people get so sick, or have Alzeimer, Parkinson's disease and relatives have no place to put their belongings. As they know they don't remember their stuff anymore, they don't mind getting rid of it.
Sounds like you got symptoms of hoardenitious.
Lol, they probably was so happy those people werent driving down their values anymore.
I love your positivity and genuine enthusiasm

Yeah, where I live , that house would be lucky to bring $75,000 .
That's California for ya. They forbid most apartment constructions because it creates an aesthetic their government doesn't like, so housing is tough to come by. As a result, property values are through the roof. I'm sure the rent on this is no less than $3,000.
Exactly what I was thinking. No way would I ever live somewhere where a regular house cost $700K.

We have a lot of work to do, it's basically a frame on land but still even after dropping $40k to get it where we want it to be it will be significantly cheaper than something like this. I get it's about area but they are WAY over charging people to live in the area which is why the homeless population has raised in California. love when a 700k house wherever this is located is ridiculous its litterly the size of homes that sell for 50k
this house isnt worth 450k let alone the extra 60k he wasted, guy believes its worth 680k, but he was the only buyer dumb enough to buy it at 450k LOL.
Your videos have been so much help as I've been looking into to buying a house. Thank you
Smhh this is really fuked up to watch.

Sad to see yall smiling & mocking. The person who lived there lost everything. It could have been anyone of yalls family members or yourself. Smh
I think they gained something by losing that hazardous living situation TBH.
He always knows what's gone missing!!! Clearing out a hoard like that will also make the hoarder hoard things even MORE 😬!!! Some don't understand that!!!
Not laughing or mocking, but unless this person died, it is very likely they are already filling up the new space they are living in now. Hoarding is very serious and makes no sense to a rational person.
I've found a house listed for $49k next to Ft. Hood so I'll be nearby my kids for a short time.
