Despite a switch in ownership the latest Saab 9-5 is very much a product of the brand's GM era; the 9-5 is built on GM's Epsilon 2 platform and is powered by GM-sourced engines. Still, the large 9-5 sedan retains a distinctly Swedish feel with unique touches throughout and a design that is unmistakably Saab.
There are less than 12,000 lucky people who own one of these.
The last Saab. Unique and distinctive I mourn the loss of Saab.

Yeah, the 2015 version is wayyy better but China got it on Lock for probably another 5 years because its fully electric like a Tesla.

I just bought the 2011 9-5 4 cylinder with infotainment in Boston, MA. Car is an absolute beauty. I bought it used for $12k off a private owner. I like the uniqueness of the vehicle. A lot of bang for the buck.
how's the reliability and where do you get it serviced and where do you get parts
In November of last year, I had bought a 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero I love it.
Do you still drive it? How’s it holding up, if so?
I’m still driving it and I’m currently living in Alpharetta, GA at 195k miles. The gears are slipping a bit and I might be due for a transmission swap. I ended up flushing and exchanging the fluids to help. Best community for this car is to join Facebook 9-5 NG. There are a few of them out there and folks share there love and passion for these cars.

nice review, but seems none of the reviews these days talking about most important things - reliability and safty. and saab would be a leader in mid class. I have 9-3 2008 200miles on the clock the only visits to garage are change oil, tyres, bulbs and filters for the last 5 years. Go Saab Go!

I don't care if this Saab was designed during the GM era. I think it's by far the most beautiful Saab product ever designed
i understand ppl getting the 2000 to so on BMW cars, but for Audi i don't understand why ppl would pick the Audi over the Saab? I mean for Audi at least the A4s i read nothing but horror stories on how much ppl spend on maintenance for that car. I rarely read anything about Saabs melt down. I have a Saab 2008 2.0T manual car, with 200km (highway) and it still runs very smooth.
Imagine being a person who owns an NG Saab 9-5 sportcombi with a manual transmission.
wait, they are about 27 of the total, did they do a manual one? Btw the sportcombi is amazing.
@@person2186 I believe 26 survived the crash tests and got auctioned off to people. And I'm guessing at least one should have a manual. Or the automatic got replaced with a manual one.
I have a 95 2010 excellent car got it jan.2017 50.000 miles on clock, my 4th saab previous saabs 95 estate, 95 estate, 93 estate, all deisels, ..
This car looks like nothing else out on the road, which is great.

@ek11sk It was designed by Saab but everything underneath is from GM. Now that they have shed GM they can make some good quality cars.

This is a very nice Saab, I wasn't really into them in their first 2 decades. Now the company has come out with very appealing cars, I hope it gets passed the financial, production troubles, I would definitely pick up a 9-5Aero when I make my high paying job. And pick up a Volvo XC-90. :D or Acura MDX
@sid203 It was designed for Saab - by Saab, not by Ford.
If i bought one, all id do to it is put a stage1 chip in it, and lower it with 1inch sport suspention.
to give it a more agressive look.
Otherwise i think its beautiful.

@juanmaperez92 Only chassis and some controls are shared with Insignia. Also, the chassis is heavily modified, so it´s not that similar to the one in Opel.

I want to like this SAAB as I am a huge SAAB fan but I cant because it looks so much like a GM vehicle. I liked how SAAB used to be unique.

idc how much this costs yea its not as fast in a straight line as the a6 and 535 but its cheaper and car and driver just tested a 6.3 sec to 60 (not bad) and .89 on the skidpad, better than all the competition
@sid203 .... it looks nothing like the ford Fusion.... if anything u look at the 9-3 it looks like the fusion but the 9-3's style has been around longer than the Ford. And this Car was deigned when Saab was still under GM power and still does not look too far off from the last gen 9-5

@MacGyver920 2011 mustang transmissions are made in China and go bad after 2000 miles, not joke. This problem led to a recall of 26k mustangs in august. Not sure if it worked, but this shouldn't have happened in the first place, especially for Ford.

The SAAB fans take for granted that everything good in those cars comes from Sweden, and all defects - from GM. It is sad but true you know...
Another know it all lol You are sadly mistaken we know the difference between the GM and genuine Saab features in our Saabs.

@MidnightClub5Global SAAB first used heads up display in the 60's...Think more expensive SAAB products. and don't think GM does not use SAABs technology...
Premium materials inside?? Other than the optional leather seats,I see no premium in there. Hard plastic everywhere. Numbers on the dials and buttons peels and fades with hours,not days. That green backlit looks cheap and so 90's. And that navi screen just looks so misplaced.

But normal BMW's and Mercedes are built in Europe, and you don't see too many of them on American roads. But seriously, in Europe, everybody loves the US, but those Americans who KNOW about Europe, hate the place. And just by saying ONE thing you Americans do not agree with, you end up in a massive and unneeded argument for saying your opinion.

@mav3ric100 I assure you my jaw won't drop. I know how the car looks like and I've seen it in person. I'm saying those chrome strips on the side make it 2X uglier. The car itself looks okay I guess. Probably not good enough to call good, but thats my opinion.

The side of this car is so ugly. The worst part is what they did with the chrome strips on the bottom and top of the side. I dont like how the chrome strips ramdomly end in the middle of nowhere.

Kelley blue book is not doing a review, it is selling the car to you. GM dogs; Give me your honest opinion of the car. Also why would they charge 52000 for a car that should have cost 35000 - 40000 max.

Look at that huge plastic center console. Looks like a Pontiac solstice. Looks Like a piece of Junk Mid teens in the city and high 20"s on the hwy so...19mpg average for 50k. This Saab will flop and wont be worth 50% in about 3 years. LAME IDEA. These guys should be gone again soon.
