Do you decipher the songs as put them up as your own? I always see so many different arrangements that seem to sound the same but yours, BossaNovaGuitar are always the best. When I have the money, I'll definitely try to get as many lessons as possible. Thank you.
I've been transcribing songs by myself ever since I started bossanovaguitar.com website, some 20 years ago. There are many ways you can play the same song, that's why I always indicate which versions I used in transcribing. In most cases I used Joao Gilberto's versions (including this one) and sometimes I also combine several versions of the same song, such was the case in transcribing Desafinado. On a rare occasions I also replace a chord with the one that in my opinion fits better to the melody or is easier to play, that's also documented in video description. Thank you very much for your nice post. Stay tuned for more lessons.
I have been listening to this song for a couple weeks now and I started to wonder if I could try it on the guitar. This video was such a big help for me. Thank you, I really appreciate it.
Thanks! This could be an adblock issue. So far the site worked in all Firefox versions I ever tried. In about few days I plan to do an upgrade with responsive design and major rewrite of lessons section so check back soon. If you want specific help you can p.m. me (either here or at bossanovaguitar.com).
You're right. Like many other musicians Joao changed a lot in his interpretations during the years. In particular he transferred many of the songs to Partido Alto rhythmic phrase, as well as transposed many of them to D, including this one. Unfortunately this resulted in a lot of interesting rhythmic phrases that had been previously used in bossa nova almost being forgotten. Here I showed the version as it was recorded by Joao and released on his first album Chega de Saudade in 1959. Thanks for pointing this out.
Well... Playing? Haha, I'm joking, but I have to say, he was really good with the guitar... Oh that lovely chord's played by him, such as a masterpiece
