01 Opening Class

Tomita Seiji Sensei, 8th Dan, on the essence of aikido.
Born in 1938, Tomita Sensei studied aikido with Tanaka Bansen Sensei, and also learned directly from the founder of aikido, O-Sensei Ueshiba Morihei. In 1971 he opened his own dojo in Yamashina and later founded the Osaka Aikido Association.
He moved to Belgium in 1987 and in 1988 founded his own international school of aikido, Ban Sen Juku, basing it in Brussels, the European capital. The school now has 14 member dojos in five different countries.
His aim is to communicate the original essence of aikido as a martial art for the real world.
