This review hit me different when he explained his opinion on why 80s cars were so special. I was originally going to get this as my first car when I was 16 (2017), I even still have the pictures of the Fiero I was going to get which was super beat up but I wanted to fix it up somehow with the part time job I had as income. Ever since I saw the Fiero I thought I was going to purchase, I always wanted a Fiero ever since, and hopefully someday I'll have the time and money to get it.
Awesome review. I’ve been a die hard Fiero fan since I was a kid. I own three. Many people don’t no that the Fiero also kick some ass in IMSA racing in the GTO and GTU classes
You're cool kid, and it's true it was passion. I'm in my 60's and I still drive my 87 GT Fiero every summer and ove it. The only thing you forgot to metion is that YOU where driving the car not a computer ( ABS, traction control, anti-slip, air bags and all that shit) so you had to know how to drive when pushing the car not to end up in a ditch !
Boy I’m old. I bought one brand new in 1987. It was an auto, beige with beige interior. It was a tight fit especially when I had my Motorola brick phone in my back pocket 😉😁
Future classic due to how many were lost to the sands of time. That being said I judge a towns financial state by how many fieros and 3rd gen camaros I see when driving through. If I see more than 2-3 I know the mill/mine/factory shut down sometime in the 90s and the town has never recovered.
Ive got one of these, a 86 red se v6! My cousin got in a accident in it when he was in highschool in the mid 90s, and my dad bought it from him. I was born in 99, and I got the car in 2018. Its a great car! I am going to eventually 3800sc swap it.
I fall in love with Fieros every time I see one, then fall back out when I look at the interior! Reviews are getting to be more polished and cohesive- keep it up and kudos!
Such stupid comments. If you want a driving experience, drive a 1988 GT with a 5 spd. The 84-87 Fiero’s had chevette suspension, handled OK. The 1988 models are where it’s at, and most sour old farts know they will never have the pleasure of driving one so they make misguided comments on performance and spread misinformation. You old scooters are aging, but us younger generation see and appreciate the car for the miracle that it is.

I like what you said about the 80's and how you had to call someone up on landlines - no cell phones. The 80's was my heyday as I was in my 20's then. It was a great time, great music, great cars although not that well built.

I have had sports cars from vettes to Porsche . My favorite car ever was an 86 v6 4 spd notchback painted flat black with aero mag style wheels . The car was so far ahead of its time. It was a huge vette threat for 1/2 the price that’s really what undid it not the fires

I just bought a 1988 Fiero last night. I live in the Cascade mountain range and the cornering ability is phenomenal. That’s where this car really shines. Gforce above 8 is remarkable. Love that part. Now can somebody help get me out?😜
My first car was an 84 fiero when I got it there was over 300k miles on it had the iron Duke with a warped head that was just torqued down to get a good deal that motor was just so hard to kill was getting just under 29mpg
I own one........ a 1987 coupe.......bought it new and still have it. It's fun to drive. I probably look out of place driving it.........why you ask, I'm 80 years old. Sooooooo when S^&% breaks, I fix it and keep on driving it.
I live these cars for some reason. I say that bc I grew up on mostly mustangs though I did own a 89 iroc z right after high-school. But I was a little kid when this car hit the show rooms. A older kid from church got a 2m4 the first year they came out. He graduated high-school and instead of going to a 4 year university he opted for the local 2 year and spent the rest on his new car. Later in the 90s in high-school one of my buddies got a formula version and I drove it a couple times was fun for sure.

@@djpollo2474 my dads had it for over 10 years waiting to fix it, so I had no choice in getting it lol. So far great little fun car, it’ll definitely require some basic maintenance if you plan on daily driving it, but overall great car. Handles well, is fairly fast, and has great gas mileage. For a good price I’d definitely recommend getting a Fiero

@@djpollo2474 if it runs $2,900 ain’t too bad, definitely try and bargain for a lower price tho. Also make sure you figure out what year it is, the earlier models (84-86) usually require more maintenance, but still good cars. If you have any questions you can just message me homie
GM definitely upped their game by the time this one came out. My sister had an '84 Fiero (4 cyl); on one of the many rides we took, watching her car through the rear window of the cab of the tow truck, we were informed that (besides the Ford Escort) this was the most frequently towed car in the U.S. at the time. Pontiac engineers and designers came up with a concept for an 89 Fiero which looked really nice, but unfortunately, the Fiero line was scrapped in 88.

Gotta love Fiero! It's easy to solve the plastic interior issue. Replace it with G1 dashboard & door panels with leather covered. Now, that looks awesome.
You missed a great feature of the Fiero. That sunroof is removable. The front compartment is designed to hold it while it's out. It fits right over the spare tire. You should also drive an '88 if you get the chance. They finally redesigned the suspension with the design they wanted from day 1, but couldn't due to budget constraints. With aftermarket parts, the difference isn't as noticeable today, but stock for stock it was a massive improvement in 1988. One of the big styling trends of the '80's was making everything look futuristic and in many cases fighter plane inspired. That's where the dash designs with the modular pod look and exposed hardware came from - it's supposed to look like a fighter cockpit. That was also part of the reason for all the rocker and push button switches in the Fiero. The 80's was about rediscovering automotive passion. We'd just come out of the malaise era of crippling inflation and gas crisis in the '70's so people wanted to look to a brighter future and it was reflected in the music, fashion, etc.
Hey I get what you're saying but like, meds are important for a lot of people. It's not about just not wanting to feel, it's about helping to have a stable mental and emotional baseline so you can enjoy life. Other than that, largely about society, I agree. Struggling personally with dissociation I'm right there with you- I want to feel, I want to be immersed in life and experience and emotions and sensation. But like, right now I'm immersed in depression and existential dread and it happens that Prozac helps with that a little 😂
This is the one I want for a project car. The pace car body, but it's not a pace car. Also if you like this car you would like a stick shift Formula Firebird from the same era. It would have the same feel and smell, but is a much more well built, easier to maintain car.
At the time, most of us didn't think very much of the Fiero. While the Iron Duke was cheap and reliable, the power output seemed underwhelming even back then. So at first, the Fiero was seen as the GM car that didn't know if it wanted to be a econ-box or a sports car. Eventually it did get the V6. But at least early on, the V6 did have a reputation of randomly blowing up. The fact that the front suspension was from a Chevette while the back was from a Citation didn't help either (although the suspensions were not the problem in either of those cars.) But looking at the car now, I can see why people get nostalgic for it and that time. Almost wish I had one back then. Some of it is rose colored glasses because in reality the 80's weren't all that great.
I like this body style with the V6 as opposed to the fast-back GT model. Only problem is you may get stuck with the lousy front suspension of the 2M6 versus the GT's far better one. If you buy an Iron Duke model be prepared to get recall notices every few months.
Really interesting. I first saw one of these here in the UK in the 90s at an American car dealer. Never seen one since but hear nothing good about them sadly. I like this design better than the GT. Maybe they get a bad rep because it's not very powerful for a US sports car and perhaps less agile and efficient than am MR2 or Fiat x19 for it to have done well outside of Europe. Curious as to how the HT cane to be and which version cane first? Great review and a fully agree about the 80s being cooler. I'd love to see a cassette tape deck in there though of I'm being honest. Just as I do in my 90s car.
im 28 but my first car was technically a 87 just like this one and silver got it in 2012 with a gm crate engine with 26k on it it was a blast however i prefer the look of the american racing rims that came on mine they were probly a mod added in the day

I Love Fieros! I have two of them.I have to disagree with you about the engine though.The 2.8 is a nice enough engine, but really not very sporty in the fiero. I have an 86 Fiero GT that has a supercharged 3800 series 2 V6 swapped in (a popular direct swap for this car) and it is Sooooo much better!
Wait a decade or two and people will say 3800 series V6 is outta dated. It goes on for every decade. What would be great is actually design a powerful engine just for Fiero. Who knows... maybe someone will try & install C8 engine in Fiero. Now, that will be awesome.
Did I miss the part of the interview where he goes into detail about the driving dynamics of the car? Did I somehow skip over an entire segment where he describes handling, braking, & acceleration? What about the engine's power band, torque curve, etc? Did I also miss the part about reliability, maintenance, and common problems with the car? The double ashtrays give the Fiero an Italian touch. The main GT bit on this car is the aero nose.

The only two gauges you need in a Fiero are the temp and fuel gauges. Play everything else by ear. Iron Duke powered Fieros make it really easy.

I doubt we'll see the comeback of the Fiero since Pontiac has been out of business for years.
The eighties was a great time, from music, to movies, to style and persona. 👍
