- I review the 4c for soprano this time. I'm using La Voz medium reeds for my soprano setup here also. I really wanted to expand the locations where I playtest this piece before the weather got too cold. The weather is now too cold, LOL!! Just got my first soprano after 30 years of playing tenor and clarinet. It came with a 4c Yamaha piece. The first hour and my intonation was nothing short of tragic. Now it's coming together and yes, this thing blows well and produces a sweet, rounded tone....far from that course and raspy soprano sound that I hate. Having trouble getting D3 and above but I assume that's pretty common when starting on soprano. Other than that; good piece...its way better than I am right now :)
Sounds fantastic, the MP compliments your playing and the saxophone perfectly. Musical and edgy at the same time. Your choice of different locations to play is also great and makes for informative and entertaining reviews.

At the price it as an absolute steal. On alto I played a 4c, outgrew it, got a 6c dropped it while cleaning smashed it, moved up to a 7c. Eventually bought a Beechler Bellite 8 using Fibracell 2.5 reeds.
On Soprano using a 7c and D'darrio Royal filed 2.5 reeds. Lovely sound.
Those Yamaha mpcs are excellent value.
As the saying goes: "The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten".

Paul , le son correct , c'est celui que tu créeras toi-même et pas celui de quelqu'un d'autre . Comprends ce que je veux dire , c'est très important . J'ai toujours voulu sur mon soprano , avoir le même son que Sidney Bechet et je suis enfin parvenu à y arriver ...... A plus de 70 ans !!! J'ai vraiment été idiot .....et j'ai perdu tellement de temps , pour peu de choses , finalement parce que de toute façon , même si je n'avais jamais réussi , j'aurais toujours autant aimé S. Bechet , parce que pour moi , il est toujours le meilleur de tous ....Et moi personnellement , j'aurais été sans doute autre chose qu'un bon imitateur !!!

This is an excellent mouthpiece for beginner students. I find it very easy to blow, but a little brighter than I personally prefer (I play a Bari 68).
Ce n'est pas parce qu'elle est facile à jouer que la C4 Yamaha est spécifiquement faite pour les étudiants . Beaucoup d'excellents professionnels l'utilise aussi ! Ce n'est heureusement pas toujours le prix qui fait la réelle valeur des choses , en ce qui concerne les artefacs musicaux aussi bien que tous les autres , dans quelque domaine que ce soit . Put It this way I have yanagisawa hard rubber , Ottolink Metel , selmer I don’t even use them 90% of the time I used this Yamaha mouthpiece and loving it❤️

Is this the same mouthpiece that came with the Yamaha instrument? Or does it have improvements from the given mouthpiece?
Sounds super nice, but that's more you than anything else. I'm going to purchasing a Vito VSP curved Soprano very soon and will need a good mouthpiece. It actually comes with a Yamaha 4C though Ithink I would prefer something a bit more open!

I haven't played soprano for at least 6 years ever since my vintage king saxcello needed major repair. It's just been sitting in the closet all this time while I just stuck to playing Tenor & Alto. But I'm getting back into it now. I used to play soprano with a Meyer 5m mouthpiece. I let a friend borrow it awhile ago and haven't gotten it back. Anyway, I ordered a Yamaha 6C since it has the same tip opening as the Meyer 5m and less than half the price.
I just cannot remember which strength LaVoz reeds I used to use though. Do you think Med strength would be ok for a Yamaha 6c? Or Med hard? Hate to buy a box of the wrong size reeds. Maybe I'll buy rico first to test....Nice playing btw...great projection and intonation!
What reeds were you playing before? It might be a good idea 💡 to go down a strength if you haven't played soprano in such a long time

It is very similar to the tenor. It is very easy to play also

Why not use the Vandoren Red box 2,5 on soprano?
I found them to be too stiff. The 2's also.

Is there a specific kind of scale you use to get that sound when you solo?
Mostly for this video I'm playing over I major(with b6 and b7) to a bvii minor 69 which resolves back to the I triad. Concert: F maj triad to Eb-69 back to F maj triad.
F triad scale: F G A Bb C Db Eb F
Eb mi 69 scale: Eb F Gb Ab Bb C D Eb
Can you give me any harmony tips?
I'm trying to play like (1980s) Sanborn, I use the blues scale, throw in the M3, 2 and 6 a lot (leave the b7 and b5 out then), I try using Major pent. up and blues scale down. It often sounds close but wrong as well. He might alter the scale for each chord? My reference is Since I fell for you (at Rockplatz). I hear you use the blues scale a lot like him but running it through a tune like he does is a bit of a trick. I see some tunes like Hideaway where the straight blues scale seems to be all he uses.
And who would bet, with all the transcriptions of his stuff that there is none for his first grammy tune, "All I need is you"? (Lol I can't even work out the key!).
Coffin Man When I'm having a hard time figuring out the key of a song I sing an ionian (major) scale over a recording of the song and find the 1 on my horn and that's what key it's in hope that helps👍

@@Sirvalorsax I got the key of that tune it's D. Some other subscriber here told me to sing a scale to fit and then find it on my horn and guess what I got it straight away. Still learning!

This mouthpiece is easy to play, but the upper register sounds too weak and clarinet like for me.
Which better betwen mp yamaha 4c and rico M5. What do you think?
I like the Yamaha. I feel like it is more versatile
je pense qu'il serait bon d'arrêter de dramatiser la difficulté du sax soprano . Bien sûr , il faut avoir une bonne oreille pour produire le bon son , mais à côté d'un instrument à cordes comme le violon , par exemple , le sax soprano est d'une grande facilité de jeu . Personne ne se plaint de la difficulté du violon , pourtant ! Le soprano étant plus court que les autres sax , l'ajustement est plus difficile , évidemment . Mais il n'y a là rien d'insurmontable , inutile de faire peur aux gens en comparant ce sax au grand méchant loup : cela crispe et bloque les musiciens sopranistes , ce qu'il ne faut surtout pas faire pour acquérir une excellente sonorité avec n'importe quel saxophone , hahahahaha !!!
