  • Guitar Manufacturing using STEM Concepts Week 13 | RATTLECAN GUITAR RESTORATIONS by James O’Rear
This week we continue with fret work: leveling and crowning them. Also we put the electronics into the body (forgot to take a photo) and a couple of images from my new job working in the woodshop where we make the guitar body, neck, and fingerboard blanks for the CNC portion of guitarbuilding.org .

I really like that formica top. Really only two or three ways the end frets get sanded down like that. They weren't seated all the way, the board wasn't sanded flat or the neck wasn't flat when leveling. Only one good way to fix it. Determine the problem, pull the frets, as many as needed depending on the problem. You should put some fall away in the end anyway. A notched straight edge is ideal for working this out. Cool job in the kit factory. Kind of a nice niche selling only to schools.

Apparently the program originated here and there's a good amount of industry support with the caveat that the kits (containing said support) are only used for the education program which is understandable. The job is a bonus, everyone in the program is pretty cool.

Loafie...'cause when he sits he looks like a loaf of bread. My daughter gave him that name. Definitely lazy, definitely not musical. Just a cat doing cat things...lol!
