Stephanie the lime render on the base of the walls and turret at the front of Lalande are being ruined by the flower bed. You are introducing a source of constant moisture to that area and you need to do the opposite (keep the area dry) to protect the structure integrity of the walls. The lime render has already fallen off in many areas, but you can see clearly in this video that the render is very very damp. This will not only ruin ur wall structure if you don't remedy this urgently, but all interior walls will be damaged and your will end up redecorating. The correct way to fix this is to get rid of the flower beds and install a French drain with perforated plastic pipe all along the base of the wall and have the drain end up well away from the house. The wall render will need to be taken off and let the walls dry out for a few months before re-rendering them. Usually a solid wall dries at about 2 inches per month. Now is the ideal time of year to do this as you have the summer weather helping to dry the walls. Never inject the walls with damp proof chemicals and never use cement anywhere - only use lime mortar & plaster, along with a breathable paint and the walls will dry out on their own.
Does anyone have Nati's email for this news. Patrons please move structure issues up the list of projects. I know drainage was done in back and the terrace is being worked on.
