@@beeee__ That line really caught my attention when I first heard it. I looked up how some people interpreted the song and found out about the British meaning of the word.
Considering that the song seems to be about a con artist, I think that the line has a meaning similar to "snake oil salesman" since a type of meatball wouldn't be something that anyone considers a health food.
The line wouldn't cause controversy in Britain but it definitely would in other parts of the world simply because of how it's used as a slur.
I heard somewhere that line was directed at Pete Sinfield by Robert Fripp.

When I first heard this, the first line caught me really off-guard. I didn't think it actually said what I thought it might've said.
Heard this song for the first time about a week ago and felt exactly the same; the line hasn't aged well but the now-slur was actually in reference to meatballs.

About that first line: Peter Sinfield had recorded a tune the year before called "Wholefood Boogie" (Still, 1973) and another in which he took swipes at Robert Fripp. The line "Once he called the tune in a checkered suit" puts me in mind of "The yellow jester does not play but gently pulls the strings." (Jesters wear checkered suits.)
Richard Palmer-James wrote the Wetton-era songs, not Sinfield.

My first concert was seeing Golden Earring open up for King Crimson at Massey Hall in Toronto in 1974. Not bad for a first concert...

I can't count on two hands how many times that sudden loud distorted opening has scared the total crap out of me, especially from a still quiet. I startled my dad with it one time and he was like WTF is that noise? 😂
And 95% of the album is comprised of live concert performances! I was fortunate to see this KC lineup in’73 and ‘74 in NYC. Life changing.

What can you say about an album that starts a second after the heaviest riff ever written? Twenty seconds later, it thoughtfully and melodically eviscerates the modern human condition. Been loving this one since before and after the not bad and worse pretenders.
