The United States' S-class submarines, often simply called S-boats (sometimes "Sugar" boats, after the then-contemporary Navy phonetic alphabet for "S"), were the first class of submarines with a significant number built to United States Navy designs. They made up the bulk of the USN submarine service in the interwar years and could be found in every theater of operations. While not considered fleet submarines, they were the first submarines in the USN designed for open ocean, blue water operations. All previous submarines had been intended for harbor or coastal defense. These boats were intended to have greater speed and range than previous classes, with improved habitability and greater armament.

S boats were quit primitive compared to later Fleet subs .
Yep! Appreciate you watching and have a great week :)
Thanks very much for this one. Lately I’ve been interested in the earlier submarines and U-Boats but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of material on them. I read two books that got me interested, one fiction and one nonfiction. Diary of A U-Boat Commander by Sir Stephen King Hall and FIPS, Legendary U-Boat Commander by Werner Fürbringer.
Thanks again. 🙏
Very cool! Thanks for watching and have a great week :)
@5:13 construction of 4 1/2 years of s single s-Boat or a total of 4 1/2 year total? I cant image an S Boat taking 4 1/2 years to construct. A modern Nuke only takes 4 years. Can you elaborate.
USA
Would have been a different story with me behind the wheel.
So true
Rickover the father of modern subs.
Algorithm 👍👍
Appreciate you watching and have a great week :)
Look pre 1942 the US navy was not even comparable to the british navy who had literally ruled the waves for 200 years. The US build capacity was king but, belatedly.
Quite, 🎉
Appreciate you watching and have a great week :)
British shouldn’t have given Hong Kong back.

Two different Submarine classes!
Electric Boat was an American company building submarines for the American Navy.
The HMS Sealion was a British built design built by Cammel Laird.
You are conflating two very different submarines, built to very different designs by two different navies!
Very disapointin! You can do better because you have in the past!
