For years, the bass player has really amazed me. He's not doing a whole lot, but his timing and effects are so technical. Being able to add notes in intermittently like that and still stay on rhythm and keep everything sounding good is really impressive and he does it on a 4 string Fender, he isn't going crazy with strings and fretless shit. Simple and effective.
I agree with you on timing and simplicity in the notes and playing :) The guy (John Davis) has one of the most advanced, cutting-edge pedalboard I've ever seen for bass, including Eurorack modules at some point. That's where it goes crazy :)
It's moments like this one that make me truly appreciate this band... when you find yourself enveloped by the sound and everything else seems to just stop. Thanks for this brief pause from the seemingly endless whirlwind of my life.
The mathematics of preciseness dissolved into de poetry of time and space. Jojo Mayer defies the mathematically and musically undefiable. He surpasses that frontier, playing with that famous «between 0 and 1». One of the few drummers/musicians in history that deserves a place in the category of genius.
From Japan, Nerve and jojo can't stop evolving...this music isn't electro and others. This is between 0 and 1, you play like machine but you bless. Amazing.
I watch JoJo Mayer videos every day because I see similar styles between me and him. I spent thousand of dollars over the past 10 years on his equipment.
Love what Jacob does with the rhodes in this one. And, naturally, John's playing is super tight and Jojo's drumming is sublime as always! You guys continue to astound me. Keeping it real!
I typically listen to and play heavy rock but when something is done really well with integrity, taste and stellar talent it transcends genres! Nice work guys, could listen to you jam all day!👍😝
thanks! we are trying to give some insight into what we actually do live... and reveal that a lot of the stuff that sounds like 'post production' is happening in real time thanks to Aaron.
jazz is at best, an uninformed way to describe this music genre..of course some electronic music has jazz influence, but no one would call jazz the "new form of classical" music.
This is gorgeous! The feel reminds me a bit of Derbyshire, it appears simple, but the groove is deceptively intricate and the spaces between everything just feels amazing.
Our latest album just dropped. You can buy it on bandcamp at nerve.bandcamp.com .... this EP will be available for purchase in June, and will come as a video and also audio EP. Thanks for the support!
Nando Peyton nope just an additional denfer ring called the big fat snare drum. that is the actual name of the company making them. something similar to remo o rings.
Man, Aaron's improvisation on the snare drum, especially the development around the 2:00 mark... killin' it. I am loving the new output from you cats, for real. I've been deep in your sound ever since learning about you through a Tone Factor interview John did about effect pedals. Completely changed my life... for real, you all are beyond inspiring! I am loving how each new release is more and more integrated. With the latest record, Nerve, it was amazing how, at points, it was hard to distinguish who was doing what! I have always been deep into your output, but this period seems to be like Nerve coming into true fruition, like the vision is blossoming... now to imagine what the next crazy step will be! Haha. One other thing, will purchasing this EP be available through Bandcamp? Also, just to make certain, is there still a plan to drop vinyls of Ghosts and Nerve on Bandcamp? I think I have checked almost every day to make sure I didn't miss an email to announce their posting. Thanks for any info. Keep it up, cats. Nerve is something truly special!
He's their sound guy that tours with them and is with them in studio, but he does more than just takes control of the mix. Jojo is running into, I believe, a Kaoss Pad, so when you see Aaron fidgeting about with that colorful pad, he's tweaking Jojo's sound in realtime. The delays and stuff that you hear on the kit are Aaron in realtime. Wonderful stuff. Really makes Jojo step forward into the realm of produced sounding drums, but without it being predetermined! I consider Nerve to be a quartet because of how integrated Aaron is. Right around 2:10 to 2:15 is a great example of Aaron improvising.
Thanks Brandon! The video EP will be available through Bandcamp. We also do have Ghosts vinyl that we'll make available when we get back from tour. Vinyl production for Nerve LP we'll sort and get done asap too. We appreciate the support!
Not only is this great but Nerve seems to have taken over where D&B left off.It seems the guys like photek and Squarepusher aren't making the cool stuff like thy used to. Not only are they keeping it going but they're doing it with real musicians and have taken the art form even further.
This reminds me of Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere OST, this sound kinda similar. Nerve is amazing; i discovered their music in 2000 and still amaze me in every way.
Only familiar w/ Mayer from the Depart Reloaded record and some work w/ David Fiuczynski. Great stuff, but this opens up something different and really cool. Squarepusher is probably the closest (and maybe less evolved) thing that comes to mind as a comparison.

As leonardo da vinci ones said..........'simplicity is the ultimate sophistication'

and i bet if he got let loose on a solo it would be one of the greatest things youve heard.
John accualy used a fretless around 2000's, sounded sick

Thanks Gregg!
Thanks Gregg

Relax, man ;-0
'the mathematics of preciseness dissolved into the poetry of time and space'...I like that
I love how Nerve let's the groove develop slowly while rarely repeating the same phrases on each instrument. Can't wait.
I figured it out. He drums like someone is rappin or singing. Providing the beat, but also the lyrical melody. Genius.
yeah man, that's a cool way to look at it. Like Jaco on the bass
It’s mastery of division
I have no words 😵 ... A big hug from Brazil.
This is very nice. Nerve all ways brings that mean understanding of timing that can only be found naturally. Talented fellas.
My favorite band!!!!! Thank you Jojo, John, Jacob and Aaron!!!!! Your music is incredible inspirational and beautiful!
Platon Medvedev thank you!
From Japan, Nerve and jojo can't stop evolving...this music isn't electro and others. This is between 0 and 1, you play like machine but you bless. Amazing.
brooo they had a japanese member, Takuya Nakamura
Now THAT is how you engineer, kids.
Unggggh... Where has these been all my lives??
not only bass and drum ! far , far , far more. enjoyed every second of it like always ! bravo !!
Absolutely brilliant. As always.
This has to be a genre, I NEED MORE OF THIS KINDA MUSIC!
Check out Mark Guiliana’s Beat Music

Got to be one of the best pieces of improv music, ever.

Uh
I typically listen to and play heavy rock but when something is done really well with integrity, taste and stellar talent it transcends genres! Nice work guys, could listen to you jam all day!👍😝
That snare at 1:12 was awesome
Incredibly tasty. The fact that this is live and improvised is mind blowing
thanks! we are trying to give some insight into what we actually do live... and reveal that a lot of the stuff that sounds like 'post production' is happening in real time thanks to Aaron.
JojoMayerNerve So will the video EP have a documentary like character?
No, there is no narrative, it's just a continuous live improvisation
This is truly the next evolution of jazz.
yeah, this is true, it's time to new jazz, PLEASE
Are you serious ? It hasnt any connection with jazz lol
Dystopian Jazz... maybe Industrial Jazz?
jazz is at best, an uninformed way to describe this music genre..of course some electronic music has jazz influence, but no one would call jazz the "new form of classical" music.
I would argue that impressionists like chopin and liszt were the first jazz players to ever exist.
oh to have access to JoJo Mayers practice routine would be amazing! such mastery of the instrument!!! how how how!!!
keen for the next chapter!!
I especially like the third chorus, just before the bridge. Interesting polychords, shifting time signatures, and changing dynamics.
Very nice!
Fantastic! Music! This is another step!
Always inspiring, never disappointing, thank you Jojo and Nerve!
these guys are amazing! please come back to PA!

Nando Peyton nope just an additional denfer ring called the big fat snare drum. that is the actual name of the company making them. something similar to remo o rings.
