When engineers were testing the 250,000hp nuclear scramjet engine for Project Pluto, there was no temperature sensor known that could measure the exhaust temperature, instead during testing of the full size engine, they designed a calibrated optical system to gauge the temperature, to determine how well the internals of the engine reacted to full power for 20 minutes. Pluto was an armored cruise missile, the size of a locomotive that flew at Mach 3.5, at tree top height, and its shock wave would have killed people on the ground.
@@justarandomguy3969 if you think that the O2 sensors are only for environmental reasons , it's pretty clear that you don't know anything about the stoichiometric ratio of fuels , and the advantages/disadvantages of running an engine too rich / too lean . Pretty sure that you should look into it .
@@bogdy2p i never said it was the only reason, but it is THE reason it was invented/put into cars. Its also the reason all modern cars have 2-3 of them instead of 1
Good video, it looks like scott reached over to unplug the coil pack hence the drop in cylinder 2 egt. The wb barely ran leaner though, is this because the engine was at low load. Would it be much more obvious at higher engine loads?
Unburnt fuel can displace oxygen in the exhaust and show a rich condition or a large volume of oxygen with no fuel can show a lean condition, depends on your misfire condition, you need to look at the total picture, not just what the 02 sensor is doing, to determine what is occuring.
Video suggestion - Biggest dyno fails the Haltech team has ever seen. Thought of this while rewatching the G6E tuning series, when Scotty mentioned the idea of turning up to the dyno with flywheels / driveshafts / CVs improperly attached. There's gotta be a few good stories there
Hello from Finland! You wanted to know what happened to your test engine? I am going to guess that you unplugged number 2 cylinder coilpack was unplugged and im basing my guess on that because your number 2 cylinder exhaust gas temp went down right away amd your short term fuel trim is trying to reduce the ammount of fuel.
The fact that you removed something do result in a temp drop on cylinder 2 means its likely the coil plug. But if you had not known the action that caused it, you could also think it was running rich. You could confirm this with the wideband as you have 2.
Question @Haltech; @16:27 in the example you give where you can turn off that cylinder #2 if the EGT goes above the set limit. Instead of turning off that cylinder can you in the ECU have the Fuel injector send additional fuel for added cooling of that particular cylinder??? & would this be more beneficial? I can theoretically see the benefit in this but just curious What went wrong? @20:47 The EGT 2 shows it's a lot cooler than the other cylinders and thus I'm going to say It got more fuel as a result of no spark which resulted in the cooler readings & the engine mist or poor running condition... ?
Is there a setting you can put in to detect sudden drop on one cylinder, so if the variance between all 6 is too far it will put the engine into protection mode, rather than only having a min or max value for engine protection.
I already have a TCA8 with my Elite 1500 for my 4 cyl egt's. If I get a thermocouple for oil temp. I know you can set it up to log it as oil temp. Can you set it up also for engine protection?
Hey mate my diesel egt's both read 80 degrees celcius when engine is cold, they do rise when engine is running. Im having issues with car . Is that normal?
On your software and hardware is it possible to run 4 o2 sensors and 4 egt sensors? I don't want my built f20b engine to blow up due to lean condition in cylinder #2 or #3. I want to control all 4 injectors plus also have vtec engaging
Dude I work in a factory and these thermo couples are all over the place rarely do they give issues its usualy they get broken or wiring chafed thru so I can attest to the durability of these
Anybody have any opinions on longevity of EGT probes pre-turbine? Is it worth the expense of getting a inconel sheath? Still suggest running a open probe? I am considering getting open tips to verify the tune is healthy, then either removing them entirely or swapping to closed tips to watch for radical changes.

What are your thoughts on using egt sensors on 2 stroke engines? Specifically a 1975 kawasaki h1 500 triple.
Cyl 2 lost ignition, fuel or spark based. Damn Scotty, now I cant get an engine done without per cyl egt monitoring.
Can the EGT Controller also work with other tempsensors? For example with a bosch Kombisensor?
