So some pads are quick connect and others are...? I take it the 3M Perfect-It 9" compounding double sided pads are the right ones to use with the quick connect?

@@Local_Boydidgood OK, I bought the Dewalt buffer you recommended elsewhere, the 9" double sided pad, the adapter, 3 liter set of 3M compound, and the 303 Areospace stuff. My fleet will never look the same. First up, a beautiful gel coat fiberglass camper. Thanks a ton. You don't do cars much, but I don't even own a boat.

Plenty of car experts. I felt there was a hole to fill in boats. Don't do anything I do on a boat, on a car, ever!
You're very welcome. I hope you achieve your desired results.

Did I not reply to this Bob? Sorry. The pads are specific to the nut or adapter. One can't be used with the other. In my descriptions are the part numbers for the corresponding wheels.
Again, sorry this slipped through the cracks my man.

Does the quick connect do as good as the backing plate or same?

    • @Local_Boydidgood
      @Local_Boydidgood  Рік тому

Apples and oranges really. The backing plate requires you to physically center the pad, avoid tight places and you don't get another side of your pad to use if needed.
It's just an adapter to use double-sided pads.

Don't forget the pads to go with it. They only work with the right 3M pads made for the QC.

We connect is the only bad product from 3M The pads connection are plastic in the quick connect is metal. So you will never have a pad that will last its whole life because the connection will be ruined. The only advantage is that you can have a double sided foam pad other than that is terrible and falls off all the time.

If people aren't pushing so hard, up on an edge, they'll experience less of that.
They should have used a steel sleeve and not aluminum, agreed.
Not perfect but if not abused, serves a purpose and unless abused, will keep a pad spinning and being able to semi-quickly allow a flip.
I also run a normal spindle nut and it's almost always, as fast to flip and never drops a pad on the ground which, to a detailer is one of the most frustrating things in life.
      Thanks for the comment.

Did you have any issues with threading on the 3m quick adaptor to the Dewalt dwp849x? My 3m quick adapter seems like it has a different size thread than whats on my dw849x. I can get maybe 1/2 turn and then it just stops and won't thread any longer. I don't think they make different size 3m quick release adaptors.
    Thanks for any input!

Yikes, no, never. I've used about 3 and the guys at the shop all have one, my last crew used them too half the time.
I'd return /exchange it. Sorry about that. I'd say it's a fluke or it got bent or has something in the threads keeping it from threading.

@@Local_Boydidgood I just figured it out. It was just a little material stuck inside the threads of the adaptor. I had to wrench it on and it broke free then just blew it out with some air. Strange I wonder if it was put in there on purpose to act like a thread locker? Who knows but we're all good now it threads on like butter now! Thanks for your input. I appreciate it!
