Swami Harshananda is the senior monk and president of Ramakrishna Ashram , Basavanagudi , Bangalore . He was influenced by the ideas of 'Swami Vivekananda' since childhood. When he came in contact with 'Ramakrishna Ashram' in 1948, he was 15 years old. In the early days there was a lot of confusion in his mind about religion. It was interesting to know about all the floors of religion. He participated in 'Satsangs' and gathered information. His 'long-standing dream' came true as he prepared to edit a book with the hope of collecting comprehensive information about Hinduism as a whole. ' A Concise Encyclopaedia of Hinduism ' (in three volumes), "A Concise Encyclopaedia of Hinduism", in the 'Ramakrishna Muktashanga' of 'Ramakrishna Mutt', 'Bull Temple Road', Bangalore, on Saturday, 31st May, 2008, 'Former President of India', 'Bharat Ratna', Dr. A.P.J. .Abdul Kalam,' was 'revealed' to the public.
Harshananda joined Ramakrishna Ashram in 1954. 'Dedicated his whole life to the service of the society' and received 'Sanyasadiksha' in 1962. Later served in many centers as seen below. For example:
Ramakrishna Ashram, Mangalore.
Ramakrishna Ashram, Mysore.
Ramakrishna Ashram, Allahabad.
First, the veterans joined the 'Belur Math, Calcutta' as a trainee. He also worked at a relief center in Andhra Pradesh when the 'Cyclone' hit. Since 1989, he has been based in Bangalore. Has vast knowledge in English, Kannada, Sanskrit. Several books authored by him have been published by University of Mysore. He is currently engaged in the compilation of an encyclopedia of Hinduism. Many of Harshananda's extensive essays have been made into short volumes and are available to devotees abroad in several languages. He enjoys singing hymns. He sings melodiously in Carnatic and Hindustani styles. ' Dictionary of Hinduism ', ' Dictionary of Indian Culture books,' are Swamiji felt that there was no such thing as 'extended information'. There was a desire to create based on hierarchy.
Swami Harshananda's 'Definition of Hinduism' can be as follows : We call modern Hinduism the ideals that have joined the main stream of religion over time, and that have remained to this day. All aspects of spirituality that we are advocating are Vedic life examples. The archetypes of all religions are to have Satchidananda. Welcomes works of folk-wishes created by Saranas, Dasas, Anubhavas. It also respects 'daivaradhana system'. This is what Ramakrishna Ashram also advocates.
He died in Bangalore on 12 January 2021, He was 91 years old.
