For those you cannot go to see the movie for any number of reasons (such is my case) know that the book is amazing. A sport themed human interest story is not the type of book that draws me in but for an unknown reason it called out to me and I secured a used copy. The book sucked me in, in both body and soul. Those of us who have lived poor and held our lives together based on dreams will understand the struggle and success of The Boys. Nothing is impossible when we can secure a bit of a helping hand while clinging strong to our dreams and putting all we can into the effort. How these boys even physically survived yet alone became world champions still grabs at my soul.
Loved it. Been waiting for this movie ever since I read the book a decade ago and it didn't disappoint. Even when I already knew how the ending would play out I was still on the edge of my seat. If I have any critiques I wish Joe's story backstory would have been fleshed out just a little more. The dude had it ROUGH. Still, I'm satisfied with what we got.
Joe's backstory is so riveting that in the hometown in which he was abandoned by his family as a 14-year old (Sequim, on Washington's Olympic Peninsula) there is a Rotary Club Fund to raise money for housing for homeless teens in the town, and a major display honoring him in the town's history museum. The kids who currently go to the high school he attended were able to secure a pre-screening of the movie in their town three weeks before it opened nationally.
@@GaryDouglas-lj5bz That makes my heart so happy! As a a fellow Washintonian, this film hits you with hometown pride, doesn't it? On that note, I have one additional nitpick: I could tell they weren't filming in Washington. No overcast skys and not a pine tree in sight. The NY looked location looked more accurate. If they switched locations it would have perfect.
@@GaryDouglas-lj5bz I have lived in Sequim for the past 25 years and my family goes back 110 years here. I've always known it to be the kind of town that produces hearty, industrious, strong-willed folks. Joe was simply one example. It is my understanding that they shot all the water scenes in England. I believe the reason may have been that shooting in Washington state is an expensive proposition---which is why TV shows and movies that are set here are often shot in Vancouver or in Oregon.
Watched the film today, having just come across it by accident, I thought it might be good, and I wasn't disappointed. It's only January 12, and I'm of the opinion I will not see a better film all year
An amazing movie. As a long time UW fan, I had a hard time holding it in as they were singing the UW fight song. Totally gripping. Love true stories, underdogs. Should garner some Academy awards.
With all their special effects, I was disappointed that they never inserted the Cascade Mountains into the background of even one of the scenes on Lake Washington.
@@krisvanmaanen1356 Was filmed in england. Then for the NY race, they digitally added the surroundings, train is digital, the entire coast is digital. Was filmed on a reservoir near heathrow.
A relative gave me the book as a birthday gift and when I finished reading it, I said to myself, "They should make a movie out of this". Sure enough, that's what they were doing. Loved the book and the movie.
Когда "Оскар" снимет эти видео. Фильмы получат номинацию? В последний раз они снимались в "сыне", и этот фильм не получил должной оценки критиков и наград
The Oscars don't do these videos. The film companies send these out to get nominated -- not just to the Oscars but to the Golden Globes as well. But these have to be prepared early.
@@krisvanmaanen1356 It's historical. You can't really tinker with the historical line that much and the whole film then becomes a sham. I was surprised that they even actually got it made -- considering it's really a white person's story/experience.

The PBS documentary is great too
Beautifully written comment!
The book was SO GOOD- It’s one I’ll read once a year easy!

@@gdouglas999Why is it so much more expensive to film in Washington than those locations?

Beautiful commentary. I was profoundly inspired. Thanks.
I really enjoyed this movie. Underdog stories are the best
Very nice movie and several people were watching it. 🥳
Terrific movie. So engrossed I found myself trying to row with them! Really recommend it
Great book, even a better movie.
Yes
Great movie, even better book.
I want to read the book

Yeah, the NY location looked more like Washington to me. If they just swapped locations it would have been perfect

I really want to see this but I’d like to read the book first.
I rowed an 8 crew in high school. It's hard. It's almost like music. Keep the beat or die.
I saw this film
Congratulations!
Superb Movie on real life 🗽
Bravo

When the oscars do these videos. The movies gets nom? Last time they did to the son and that movie underperformed at critics and awards

I don’t think this movie is woke enough for Hollywood even though it is a great picture

Honestly it was really corny. I like the actors in this though they made it great.
Agree, but I think it was meant to be an old fashioned wholesome film. My 85 year old mother thought it was a perfect movie, and she is not an old 85.
Lame movie .
