    Thanks very much. I have the exact scanner. I let the battery go low and unplugged it when I changed out the battery and lost the memory. I looked up the frequencies from the county codes on the police dept. site. But it would not scan after entering them. I must have hit the limit button or other. I pushed in the reset button. That really helped, and then re-entered the frequency numbers Thanks for showing that button on the back of the scanner. Great clear instructions. It really helped to show how to get rid of the other banks--that really speeded the scan up.

    Sir,
    Today I ran across this same scanner at a real estate sale and bought it and a 2 meter/70 cm antenna for $50.
    Your video was very helpful and easy to learn from. Thank you for it. Have a great day!

    I have had this radio from the day Radio Shack put it on the market and it has been a workhorse! I miss the days of these simple program scanners. The new ones out now from Whistler and Uniden are a pain to program but those are what you need to monitor digital transmissions. Great video, brother!!

    A very nice video. I just took my PRO-2021 off the shelf, deciding to get back into DXing and becoming a HAM. I bought the radio in January of 1989 and the cost then was $199.95. Thanks to you I am up and running and the set works like new! Thank you!

    wow, i used to have one of these, was like decades ago! and at our local Radio Shack, they always a list of local frequencies printed out (tons of copies for everyone) that they would give you. and it really sucks Radio Shack closed! if you needed connectors, adapters, antennas, cable, all that stuff, and scanners themselves, the Shack was the place to go, they had everything. including 5' section masts, and most even carried telescoping masts in different lengths, ours usually kept them out back, or in their storage area. our Radio Shack was also a shared business, if that's what it's called, a car stereo shop shared the same suite, or store. had their own register, and little area. but ya now that Radio Shack is gone, there's absolutely no where anywhere near me where you can get that kind of stuff. Closest thing similar is the HamRadio store in Plano, TX, and that 100 miles away from me! lolz 😄so thank goodness for Amazon, ScannerMaster and HamRadio's online store, and DXEngineering as well ☮

    Already been said, but excellent video on the set up of a classic. My Dad has had this scanner for 20 years and it's still going strong. I've just brought the pro 2006 and also good - pretty similar with a few more features and memories. A real shame that Tandy, as was the UK's version of Radio Shack ceased trading in the UK - left a hole. Loads of cool kit in the day. Too much "tech" on the modern stuff too The Realistic/Radio Shack stuff was simple but did the the job and did it well, very well.

      @@SevenFortyOne Thanks again. What's interesting to me is that I don't think Radio Shack ever explained the multiple bank programming or how to turn them on and off in the original manual. They explained the upper and lower setting for free-scan and how to save by hitting the "Monitor" key but never explained how to transfer to a memory channel. I think I had this problem originally when I bought it new and had to call Radio Shack customer support to figure it out.
      In any case, maybe that's how it was done back in the 80's. Companies sold the same model year after year or had only minor changes but never updated the user manual.
      I do appreciate your information otherwise it would have taken a lot LOT more work to figure it out (no exaggeration). You saved me hours and hours.
      BTW, my unit broke ~6 months after purchasing. They they actually repaired it rather than giving me a knew one. I had to bring it back to the store for warranty repair and it took them 5 weeks to repair before they got back to me. I then had to pick it up at the local Radio Shack. That was how warranty service worked in the 80's. Funny how times have changed. :-)
      Take care!

    What would be a good external antenna for this radio I've got one the same model and everything some one gave me a long time ago I wouldn't think a CB antenna would work for this

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  7 років тому

      It depends on what you want to listen to and where you are. If you are in a city or populous suburban area then a cb antenna may actually work OK. Or even a cheap telescoping whip screwed into the top of the scanner will work in this situation. For best performance you'll want an external antenna that is made for scanners. Good luck!

    your video saved my life! I got the 400 series from a garage sale for 3$! ( its the same but better with larger memory capacity, I assume...). it's in great condition but without your video I would have absolutely no way to use it and the guy who sold it to me gave me bogus directions on what to do. anyways thank u for posting this video! huge help! now that I completely understand and know how to use the thing, I'm having trouble finding the radio frequency numbers I am looking for in my local area.. is there any way u could help me with this? I am just finding these lists of all these numbers and abbreviations that I don't understand.. it's not cut and dry, there's no website that just says "police radio frequencies: 261.000 fire radio frequencies: 875.00 Emt radio frequencies: 765.00 etc..." LOL. any help would be appreciated. I live in Murrieta, CA. and I want to listen to the police and fire dispatch in my area. also, what are ham channels? AM radio stations?

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  7 років тому

      The radio hobby is going to take a little time to get used to if you are new to it. One of the best resources for finding scanner frequencies is RadioReference.com. On that site you scan search frequencies by town or county. You should be able to get lists that show frequency and service (police, fire, ham, etc...) but it still may be a little cryptic for you since you aren't familiar with scanners.
      The RadioReference site may have an area that helps beginners understand what is going on but i'm not positive about that. However, there are some forums associated with RadioReference that may help if they don't have the aforementioned beginners section.
      When I started with this stuff back in the 90's there used to be books that you could get that helped explain all of the lingo and listed out frequencies for certain areas or states. I'm not sure if those are published any more but you could search amazon or ebay for old copies of these books.
      Your particular scanner probably can't receive any Am or Fm broadcast stations as these types of radios are designed for listening to things like police and fire that transmit for a minute or two and then are silent most of the time.
      Hopefully that will help you a little or at least get you started on the right path.

    • @SevenFortyOne
      @SevenFortyOne  7 років тому

      One more thing....
      your scanner probably can't receive digital or trunked communications. What this means is that the signals they transmit are encrypted and will sound like noise or you'll hear nothing at all once you punch in the frequencies. Receiving digital and/or trunked signals will require a newer scanner capable of decoding.
      Many police and fire departments have gone over to these types of systems for security and reliability so what you are able to hear may be limited. You should be able to at least get some ham, business, railroad, and aircraft frequencies that you can listen to though.
