I've been to several drum clinics. Two drummers stand out in my memory. Terry Bozzio and Dom Famularo. Dom has incredible energy and double-bass chops. So spontaneous and fun to watch. Bozzio was not what I expected. Very mature and articulate and approachable. Not what I expected after seeing his Zappa and Missing Persons performances. Time changes all of us....
This man has been my drum teacher since i was 18. His knowledge of the instrument is just unbelievable and just the stuff i've learned from him can help any drummer at any level
Wow! For anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him it is so easy to see that his drumming really is quite the expression of himself as a person! Full of energy, OOBER-positive, and totally a class act! Loved watching this and I hope people realize the success this man has had as an educator and inspiration to so many! -Zac Sullivan
Just heard the news. First time I saw Dom was in a Sabian promotional VHS around 1998 or so. Been mesmerized by his playing ever since. Such a positive and unique voice on the instrument. Huge loss but what an amazing legacy. Rest easy Dom
One of my favorite musicians. It's an incredible performance. Incredible, especially considering he probably couldn't even see the drums after he sent his specs a-flyin'!
Attended a drum clinic featuring Mr. Famularo in Doncaster, England and it was brilliant, dynamic, impressive, creative and boy was he funny, he had some brilliant stories - thoroughly enjoyed the drum clinic - then i went up to the front to speak to him (along with my drum teacher) and discovered that his kit was set up illogically i.e. not in descending order 8" 10" 12" etc but all jumbled up 12" 14" 8" 10" or some such, i turned to him (processing what i'd just heard) with a look of absolute amazement on my face and he was laughing, he said 'Well i like to challenge myself'. Amazing day, amazing bloke.
It's crazy how expressive he was. How he could tell a story with an instrument not typically cut out for that by knowing just when to explode, tone it down, stop, pick up the pace; etc. He really made the drums speak.
I saw him in nz years ago.loved his drumming. so unique.been looking for him for ages. thank you. oh yeah mike stutter whoever you are I never laughed period!respect to this man without stupid comments.
I remember watching you as a 14 year old In Auckland N.Z when you opened up for a Terry Bozzio drum clinic. The way you played, conducted yourself and inspired people that day will saty with me for the rest of my life .I'm 41 years old now ,and those memories have not diminished. Thanks for everything Dom ❤ Rest in Beats 🥁
I saw Mr. Famularo around mid 1980 in New Haven Ct. and was thoroughly impressed by his mastery of the drumset with a surgical technical prowess matched by none!
Brilliant solo and aggressive style. For you guys who suggest this solo is boring...... there's more to drums than just playing 100 miles per hour over top double bass drums pounding out 32nd notes. A drum set is an elaborate musical instrument capable of hundreds of musical voices and endless possibilities provided, the player has the imagination and talent. Dom Famularo is a gifted player.
if this solo was played by an 18 year old from france or italy, nobody would have cared. everyone knows name, country, money and theatre count more than substance.
I totally agree. I'm shocked that there is 200+ dislikes. This is next level shit. Even that pause in the beginning he did. That shit was on time. Tell me what drummer can do that? And so flawlessly... and I havent even mentioned about those upper cuts he does with those chinas. I'm working on incorporating that shit on my playing because of him. He's a beast!
he's actually a career drum teacher and a clinician. he's bound to jammed out with various musicians but he's out teaching and inspiring a lot of musicians with his excellent teaching and motivational speeches.
Well this is bittersweet... I came looking for this video as i was at this gig and was just chatting to a mate about him. I still have the dvd somewhere but couldn't be bothered finding a dvd player. Here i am discovering the news. Vale Dom. Dead set legend!
Dom can blaze anyone but hes such a humble dude and just genuinely loves to play. Everyone should learn from this man and love their instrument with the same passion. Truly inspriing.
Who needs glasses...when you can pay like that!!! I've seen Dom a few times in clinics and he ALWAYS delivers passion, excitement, and motivation. What else can you ask for?
Baby Dodds or Ray Bauduc . I'm playing an old 30's style jazz gig on Sunday in Tampa. Kick, snare sock cymbals and cowbell. Benny Boom Boom was the man. Salute. Pearl harbor . Great Man
Plays aw well or better than 99% of the drummers he interviews. The guy makes the drums talk. He’s going all in here. 100% commitment at all times. Beautiful...
I met Dom the first time in Victoria BC where he was performing at a college theatre, the second time I met him was in 1994 at the First Pacific Rim Drum Invitational in Vancouver BC. It was a really cool event that he did with Legendary drummer Louis Bellson and Steve Smith from Journey. I had the chance to have a seperate conversations with all 3 of them and get there autographs. Oddly enough it was Louis Bellson who ened up chatting with me for over 10 minutes in the lobby of the theatre.
y'all wish and pray your son or daughters could have taken lessons from this master teacher and even kinder human being...Love you Dom, "fellow long islander", T.
I have seen Dom Famularo in loadsa different videos, talking about drumming, and drumming books, other drummers, playing on a practice pad etc but this is the first time I have seen him at the kit and OH... MY... GOSH... This cat can play... that was awesome.
Dom F is just as talented and genuine on his instrument as Buster Keaton was at filming stunts! Btw he has a genuine personality when hosting drum interviews and shows! True inspiration
Back in the 80s, I remember going to a Billy Cobham clinic with another drummer opening for him I'd never heard of. It was Dom, who started with a metronome and a practice pad. Behind him was Billy's dbl bass kit with the toms "out of order", and we were thinking "WTF, get this practice pad playing wanker outta here". In only a few minutes, Dom had the whole skeptical crowd standing on their feet clapping and cheering him on. Billy, by contrast, was a let down. While this vid isn't one of my favorites, Dom is absolutely amazing, and a must see...
this dude is a monster in every sense of the term. great chops, distinctive style, and hot DAMN look at the size of those sticks! the arm and hand strength he has to have to got that fast with those tree trunks... dude is a beast. this was awesome to wacth and hear.
I saw Dom live in Halifax many yrs ago and he blew my mind because he was faster with his feet than I'll ever be with my hands. He was doing buzz rolls with his feet. Man, freaking fantastic.
Drumming world has lost one of it's greatest teachers and voices.. rest easy Dom, and thank you for everything 🙌
The energy of a 16 yr old and the sophistication of the master drummer that Dom truly is. Love this solo!! Drumming perfection.
I’m not a drummer and I can’t stop watching this! The beat causes a vibe that’s unreal!
I LOOOVE the way he plays. His use of dynamics is amazing.
Also, I love how he hits cymbals... it looks like he's bitch slapping them all.
check out Chris Cutler of HENRY COW on YT. (art-pop-avant English 1970s group).
he's VERY super-flourishy too!
He bitch slaps himself trying to be flashy & knocks his glasses off....
This is a PhD on dynamism, expression, precision and delicacy. BRUTAL
I love this guy's style. He's crazy and loud when he chops out, yet dynamic and very tasteful when he grooves.
3:07 nice glasses hit skill !!
I knocked mine over my kit at a show and my singer stepped right on them. Almost like he saw the and went for them... Wait a second.
Dom's a showman, and IMHO, one of the few drummers that really know how to solo anymore. It's not just a bunch of notes...
Outstanding control, truly masterful skills.
I see PASSION and lots of spaces between an incredible dynamic range of musical drumming…
I see lots of hot dogging and very little groove.
I love the way Dom shows all his passion in everything he does with the drums.. what an amazing drummer...
One of the most inspiring solos ever
It inspired me to hit the pause button and search for something else.

Dom, you have more extreme and very musical, exciting dynamics than anybody. Superb! Thank you! Bravo!
This man has been my drum teacher since i was 18. His knowledge of the instrument is just unbelievable and just the stuff i've learned from him can help any drummer at any level
most creative solo I ever heard,,, dynamics defined with passion and skill,
👍
AMAZING!!! I had a chance to take some lessons from him in 88' at PIT. Very humble and one of the nicest people I have met.
OMG, Dom, you never fail to BOWL ME OVER!!! You rock so hard buddy! Love and strength to you!
Wow! For anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him it is so easy to see that his drumming really is quite the expression of himself as a person! Geeze! Dom "unleashed the beast" on this one! 👍🙂
Jezus that was beyond belief. What musicality AND technique.

I've never seen this guy... but finally somebody that understands a lot of what is going on happens in the air.... totally digging the groove
I saw him in nz years ago.loved his drumming. so unique.been looking for him for ages. thank you. oh yeah mike stutter whoever you are I never laughed period!respect to this man without stupid comments.

Wow. Amazing. Dynamics. Another level!
I saw Mr. Famularo around mid 1980 in New Haven Ct. and was thoroughly impressed by his mastery of the drumset with a surgical technical prowess matched by none!
The joy of creativity and spontaneity, freedom in music.
Absolutely RIDICULOUS
Nobody loved drums, drumming and drummers more than Dom...
Brilliant solo and aggressive style.
For you guys who suggest this solo is boring...... there's more to drums than just playing 100 miles per hour over top double bass drums pounding out 32nd notes. Dom travels all around the world and gives also lessons to various world-famous drummers.... :))
Phenomenal talent-and a superb interviewer on session panel.
Very musical and tasty! Dom Famularo is just as good a player as he is a teacher! Amazing!
Baby Dodds or Ray Bauduc . I'm playing an old 30's style jazz gig on Sunday in Tampa. Kick, snare sock cymbals and cowbell. Benny Boom Boom was the man. Salute. Pearl harbor . Great Man
Easily one of my favorite drummers! Excellent!!!
One of the most passionate, emotional players to ever sit on the throne.
wow! what a free player. I love your dynamic and fast bodywork ...like dance on drums with so much feeling!
I was like: hey it Dom from the interviews!
And then the first lick - omg, hes a drummer!!
happy to have him as a teacher in drumeo
Dom is a master....could watch/listen to him allday long....
Captivating. The ending portion reminded me of a 4th of July fireworks grand finale.
Birth of Drummer on the wrong gig! Awesome!
Rip the King of Drums
Wow! Makes me want to practice. Great player.
even the ting of his glasses being knock off was in time. amazing. i found him because of the book stick control
Plays aw well or better than 99% of the drummers he interviews. The guy makes the drums talk. He’s going all in here. 100% commitment at all times. Beautiful...

Happy 70th Birthday Maestro!!!!!!!!
Finally a drum solo that keeps me awake
"I'm ready to take my glasses off...so I'll make it look really cool when I do it".
This is outstanding ! Cant wait to meet him at the chicago drum show
He is great and always sounds different each time he solos.
Awesome i love Dom, great control and dynamics in the solo. i've seen him live and he's even better in real life,
way to go Dom,
I wish I loved anything in my life like this guy loves playing the drums.
I've always had mad respect for drummers using silent parts in their solo's but not lose attention. It's like a drum version of the 'comedic pause'.
so much fun to watch him, he has so much fun playing
y'all wish and pray your son or daughters could have taken lessons from this master teacher and even kinder human being...Love you Dom, "fellow long islander", T.
Loved that !
RIP Dom, you were one of the best.
This guy never practiced one of his drum solo. Just came on stage and play with his heard. Amazing
I have seen Dom Famularo in loadsa different videos, talking about drumming, and drumming books, other drummers, playing on a practice pad etc but this is the first time I have seen him at the kit and OH... MY... GOSH... This cat can play... that was awesome.
Amazing Performance!
You're a madman, Dom.

I'm totally in sorrow to know he is gone.. the happiest, craziest, most technical and lovable musician ever ! It's not fair.. it's not fair!!
I did a masterclass with him once and he had the best energy ❤️rest in rhythm 🥁
Dom that was bad azz I love it
I saw Dom live in Halifax many yrs ago and he blew my mind because he was faster with his feet than I'll ever be with my hands. He was doing buzz rolls with his feet. Man, freaking fantastic.
What a legend. RIP Dom!
Awesome! Saw Dom do a clinic with Liberty DeVitto before and they were both great, but totally different. Dom's double bass playing was insane.
Love the dynamics...what a crusher!
Dom is always so exciting to watch. With intent and expression,..--> He is just a master.
Glasses fall off at 3:07. Proceeds to not care and kick more ass! Awesome! Great solo.
Watching him execute the cross-sticking is mind blowing 🙅🏻♂️🥁🤯
