    You should also grow Moon Flowers with the Morning Glory plants. That way you always have flowers.

    On the topic of vining plants, have you considered growing climbing roses, like David Austin's famous Gertrude Jekyll for example? (I've developed a bit of an obsession with roses this year.)

    New sub! Great video. Do you have an update video of the morning glory. I have some, it was already here when we moved in and I have to clear and cut it back every few months. It gets out of control very fast. Would love to see how its grown for you. Thanks!

    Last year i planted my morning glory’s on my east facing balcony in a container. I let the vines climb a stand that I have, and let them go out and around the railing area. Unfortunately, last year i did not get any flowers. This year i ended up planting them (same pot in same spot) about a month earlier (mid may?), and as of 3ish weeks ago i have started to get BEAUTIFUL flowers. I am going to take your advice for next year and plant less in each pot and use bigger ones

    The worse the soil, the better for them. They love to be drowned but dry by the next day..
    The ones that grow in my soil that grass won't survive anymore are the ones that thrive. Hard packed clay based high acidity from the pine trees soil, does better than any of the mixes or potting soils ive tried.

      I wish I could share a photo reply, I'd show a 20 foot fence that only gets morning sun with probably a thousand open flowers, 10 feet high (wish I made trellis to climb higher)

    I love growing morning glories. I planted them on posts and twine to make a seated shade area. Yes they are invasive but you learn to work with them directing their growth vs against them.

    It is very invasive. I planted it in a raised bed last year. I got one plant that barely bloomed. This year I have two plants that have popped up already.

      Yes, I’m definitely keeping any I grow contained to a pot on their own so they don’t take over!

      My husband made a wood frame with chicken wire ,he put this on a part of our house that looks great covered in morning glories. The flower bed area is about 3 ft by 12 ft. Once the plants dry out in late fall ,I pull the dried vines down & shake all the black seeds back into the bed so the next year I alway have plenty of plants + can give many away.

    Does the morning glory plant need the sun all the time, especially if the temperature is 38 degrees Celsius?

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener  Рік тому

      They’ll bloom more if they get at least 6-8 hours of sun, but mine gets less than that and still performs well!
