Monkman's fierce intensity and sheer dismissal of even attempting to use inside voice despite having a microphone. This is the stuff inspiration is made of.
Of particular note: This episode was dedicated to the memory of SOAS student David Bostock, who died earlier that month -- just weeks prior to its airing. (See 29:24.) His MA in South East Asian Studies was to be awarded posthumously at a future graduation ceremony. R.I.P. Sir.
the elder gentleman is sir david bostock, he was a retiree and a longterm public administration official who was an auditor for the EU, great man, sad to know that he died before this episode was aired
Unbelievable match. absolute corker. Funnily enough, at first I thought that the tie was going to be a dud. Thanks as always for the upload, psi. Stellar work.
It is a Monkman versus Edwards duel. Edwards was lightning quick on the buzzer and Monkman was hogging away on the bonuses. Edwards should have been the winner but for the clincher by Monkman's sidekick, Ben Choudary. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Looking at this with half a year's hindsight... Cosgrove of Wolfson College seems to be the only one on his team who doesn't have a 'deer in the headlights' frozen countenance for the camera in the introduction.
SOAS just made me think about....... "Hi, my name is Luke Vivian-Neal, I'm from Lusaka in Zambia, and I study Chinese" with his psycopath staring look LOL Great show tonight by the way

Aha!! Makes sense -- because your times didn't fit with Bostock -- however at 20.01 (instead of 19.01) -- it looked like he was almost asleep -- so then I just figured that whatever player you used was "out" in the time department!! It's all good!! Was a great match -- that went down to the wire. :)
Always enjoy Mr Paxman's impeccable manners, the way he apologises when having to deduct points for a wrong interruption, encourages the contestants and is sympathetic when they get it wrong. A superb and charming quiz master.
Love the way Monkman answers questions as if his life depended on it
Adrian Smith and how Cosgrove laughs about it as well
He's not sure the Brits' microphones work.
Monkman's fierce intensity and sheer dismissal of even attempting to use inside voice despite having a microphone. This is the stuff inspiration is made of.
Considering the limited spread of what SOAS was reading, I thought they pulled off an impressive performance. Thanks for the upload ^^
One of the best SOAS teams to appear on this show. Great team.

nightowl7777 that’s so sad 😞 do you know how he died?
the elder gentleman is sir david bostock, he was a retiree and a longterm public administration official who was an auditor for the EU, great man, sad to know that he died before this episode was aired
Edwards's nervousness adds such a charm to his intelligence.
Uttam Paudel he’s cute
Both teams' performances are very, very impressive!!! Thanks psimanjuntak! PS It is sad to hear that Mr. Bostock from SOAS team died....
Monkman is so serious and eager to answer the questions that he reminds me of Hermione Granger.
There's something otherwordly about Monkman...
He makes speaking look painful.
He resembles Matt Damon in The Talented Ripley.
He resembles Matt Damon from Team America.
He resembles Matt Damon
matt damon resembles monkman
Enjoyed that. Monkman is probably the only person to have shouted at Paxo for 30 minutes and raised nothing more than a chuckle from him.
how did they get monkman-bot to even pass the turing test?
In a million years Monkman will be the finate product of evolution.
RIP Bostock! Never seen a student die midway through competition...
Wow, I am exhausted after that! What great teams--and interesting ones. Many thanks for the upload!
I'd be honoured if Monkman was my friend. He's a legend.
Edwards too, he seems like a very nice and intelligent gentleman
Very proper, which is so rare nowadays. Shaking hands with his fellow contestants after the win.
Unbelievable match. absolute corker. Funnily enough, at first I thought that the tie was going to be a dud. Thanks as always for the upload, psi. Stellar work.
Slow start, picked up near the middle, and an epic (!!!) finish. Thanks for the upload.
Well done Edwards, man of the match.
Many thanks for uploading, and so soon after broadcast! Keep up the great work...
Well that was incredibly stressful! Worried they were going to have to bring in the medical staff for Edwards. Amazing from both teams!
9:39 This man is not messing about.
The fall of the Berlin WALLL
intemister WOLFGANG PAULI
Thank you for sharing these videos.

away on the bonuses. Edwards should have been the winner but for the clincher by Monkman's sidekick,

Monkman is slightly intense...
Slightly?
slightly is an understatement
Ha ha, that is IMHO an oxymoron (not sure that's the correct term). The same as saying slightly huge or somewhat unique.
Looking at this with half a year's hindsight... Cosgrove of Wolfson College seems to be the only one on his team who doesn't have a 'deer in the headlights' frozen countenance for the camera in the introduction.
26:26 on the right
Really clutch performance by Edwards. Too bad they lost the tiebreak.
SOAS just made me think about....... "Hi, my name is Luke Vivian-Neal, I'm from Lusaka in Zambia, and I study Chinese" with his psycopath staring look LOL
Great show tonight by the way
VanDerWylls which episode was that in?
Monkman finna beat the game up this time around
best episode I've seen - thoroughly enjoyed this!
It's a pleasure to hear Edwards give his answers in a soft, measured tone instead of that shouting, declamatory style of Monkman.
One is worried he won't be heard, the other is worried that he will be heard.
That was one intense game. Team Wolfson, you have my respect.
Monkman answers as if he knew it's wrong... @monkmanisthebest
Can somebody direct me to the specific score of Dvorak's which plays at 15:20?
I’m sure you’ve found it by now, but in any case: m.ua-cam.com/video/llB7NaWLUc4/v-deo.html
So the older gentleman on Soas died?
lol
Oh no! That is so sad!
That is really sad so sorry to hear of that
Bah who cares? He wasted his life reaching spastics in Indonesia then topping off his pointless life by doing a pointless degree at an abhorrent uni
James Golightly
there is nothing funny about death. I don't think you would say the same if it was someone close to you.
Who thought chaudari out of everyone would have saved the team? Lol
Is Monkman real or some elaborate character development?
Such a humble goodbye from Monkman.
Edwards is absolutely immense!
Was Cosgrove the mascot?
No, he was there to calm the captain with his eternal smirk.
thanks for the up
STEPHEN!?!?
monkman reminds me more of craig middlebrooks from parks and rec
This must be the University Challenge season with the highest overall average age ever.
27:10 What happened?
Monday 19th September 2016
Not embarassed to say that the first question made me shout as loudly as Monkman
That is the whitest, most ginger haired, Jewish looking Chaudhri I've ever seen......new dad perhaps?
thank you
Monkman is da man. Seriously, he's a sharp edge. Some here are mocking him, why? I thought he was intense, competitive, and very knowledgeable.
I wonder if these folks see "Jeopardy" as a children's programme.
13:04
My g monkman, killin the game 💯💸
Monkman you are the dude!!!
"Don't say mother hubbard, don't say mother hubbard."
What's an emfil
Try MPhil
Does anybody know exactly how David Bostock died?
Edwards was brilliant
Daniel Kahneman was born and raised in France...went to Israel as a young teenager.
I enjoyed that.
mmmmmmmmmmmmother-fuckin monkmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
This my favorite match.
Loool Cosgrove at 19:01 and 19:54 hahahaha
This episode was dedicated to the memory of SOAS student David Bostock, who died earlier that month -- just weeks prior to its airing. (See 29:24.)
His MA in South East Asian Studies was to be awarded posthumously at a future graduation ceremony. R.I.P. Sir.
Yeah, I knew this, I meant Cosgrove looking at Yang, have changed it
Aha!! Makes sense -- because your times didn't fit with Bostock -- however at 20.01 (instead of 19.01) -- it looked like he was almost asleep -- so then I just figured that whatever player you used was "out" in the time department!! monkman is terrifying, but in a good way, if that makes sense.
Monkman the GOAT
Monkman is Dr Evil
I wasn't expecting SOAS to do so well.
Even Algebra is terrified of the legends of the Monkman.
Edwards looks exactly like Slovenian handball player Jure Dolenec, google him and see for yourself.
Cosgrove reminds me of Martin Shkreli
Cosgrove is literally me!
LJ Ruell is part of Filepile org.
Very odd that the Cambridge team congratulated each other rather than applaud the other team.
Galit na galit si Monkman! Haha
The fall of the Berlin Wall 💀💀💀
13:37 lolllll
Keith haring chaudhri
yay ...ya'll get all MUNKADELIC
Aneskubai Furmikubai

IN CANADA, EVERYONE TALKS LIKE THIS.

LISTEN TO ME, I AM MONKMAN.
straight up edwards vs monkman
These Indonesian Subtitles are fantastic :P
50% of the OPPs squad are women.. hah, they bring women to fight monkman.. how cute
Chalaby is so beautiful
i don't understand why people hate Monkman i mean he is different but i don't think it's arrogance
Have now read many comments and have so far seen not a single comment expressing hatred for Mr Monkman nor any suggesting he is arrogant.
26:20 shame his mother didn't teach him it's rude to point...what a nasty presenter...
Always enjoy Mr Paxman's impeccable manners, the way he apologises when having to deduct points for a wrong interruption, encourages the contestants and is sympathetic when they get it wrong. A superb and charming quiz master.
Not really fair allowing a wizard, a very intense Harry Potter (Garret Monkman) on the Wolfson team!
Eric Monkman.
wtf how did SOAS do so good? Cambridge schools usually demolish other unis
They could have even won if they hadn't of had that 5 points deduction.
cosgrove bothers me, looking so smug
trrring medway 1667 enter
Steffi Graf wtf.
Sheldon Cooper would walk it on his own.
Too many Canadians.
At the time, Queen Elizabeth was also queen of Canada, so it's all right.
If ever there was a team on UC that gave a face to high-functioning sociopaths, Wolfson is it!
Why sociopaths?
Cosgrove bothers me so much
No finalists there.
it's early days....in the past, losing teams from the first round have gone on to win the whole series.
