I got a Crossroads and replaced the cheap plastic pedals. Immediate power. Installed fenders, lights, basket, four panniers AND a Bob-like trailer. Also a bell, bottle cages, mirror and cupholder. Ready for the Apocalypse.
I am a hybrid convert. I originally got my Giant Escape for commuting to work in NYC after I had a few expensive road bikes stolen over the years. I really fell in love with this bike. It is fast & comfy. Riding thru the crazy potholed streets of NYC actually became fun. Perfect commuting bike. But I also began to take it on tours on the weekend. With the long wheelbase & chain stay, it actually is quite a nice touring bike. I threw on a rack and panniers, changed out the 32 spoke wheels for 36 and some Schwalbe Marathon tires, and I am good to go for some epic rides this Summer. Love this thing.
At the age of 69, I am shopping for a hybrid to replace my road bike. My knees and neck and shoulders and diminished skills all insist. Number 1 candidate is a Sirrus X 5.0. If I can ever find one. I still want a workout and a little exhilaration.
Lubing and riding my trek 7.9 fx today after (5 years no good reasons!) gave me such thrill. Was searching for experience videos on fitness/hybrid bikes. Glad you like yours. Good review. Keep on enjoying and riding safe.
I just bought one, 2024 4.0, I really like your fender / rack set-up. I am hope that the bicycle will work well for credit card glamping. Cheers and thanks for the info.
Decided to get back into biking after injuring my knee while out hiking in 2018 and wanted to rehab outdoors. Instead of fixing up my 1981 Fuji Royale (which I loved), I wanted to see what else was out there and that's when I first heard of hybrid bikes. I ended up picking up a 2019 Trek Verve 2. I've been loving this for probably the same reasons you mention. I can go places like dirt rail trails and then cruise on a roadway without worrying. If you're hardcore, maybe this type isn't for you but as long as you keep moving, isn't that the point? Just enjoy yourself.
I have a 2017 Sirrus Sport and its easily the best bike I've ever owned. My only complaint is that its heavier than i expected but thats only noticable when im carrying up and down the stairs. I don't ride for miles at a time so a road bike was unnecessary but this bike is extremely fast with minimal effort
O.F.F. Track I’m looking right now at the Sirrus Sport 2020 and I want to use it for commuting (7 mile to my work). Do you recommend it for that purpose? Or do you recommend a road bike?
I just bought a Sirrus X today. I have a Dogma, a Kenevo and a beach cruiser. The Sirrus fills a gap for me. I'll be riding it on paths, but further than the cruiser, and I will lock it up without worrying too much about it. My pride was fine with it.
I got the carbon fiber sirus and love it for city biking. Only downside is I cant mount a rack to it, but other than that its fantastic. You can still get good speed and performance out of it but I dont feel worried about popping onto the sidewalk or grass if I have to which is the main reason I went for it. I would deffinatley reccommend the Sirus platform, but I think it might make more sense to go with an alloy frame than carbon fiber, but that just boils down to preference.
Actually the SIrrus Elite Disc is not a hybrid in the broad definition of "hybrid bikes" since many hybrids are heavy and many have front suspension. The SIrrus Elite Disc is, as Specialized say, a flat bar *fitness bike* that is closer to a road bike. It's light. It's fast. But the Sirrus Elite frame is closer still to a cyclocross or gravel bike. Put a drop bar on it and then it's pretty much a gravel tourer bike. Curiously my Sirrus Elite has a normal 100mm stem and I put carbon fibre spacers under it. I also put Fulcrum 5 DB wheels on my Sirrus Elite and she just rolls, and rolls, and rolls...
I have both. I love them both. My road bike is for speed and harder workouts. The hybrid is for cruising around comfortably and sightseeing. 🚲 for different moods
You did a fine job. You touched on the plus's and your not so great features you of the bike. Bought the mens elite carbon today 09/30. Glad you like the Specialized too. I enjoyed your review and you did a fine job making the video 🚲👍
specialized sirrus carbon comp X with specialized carbon suspension seat post installed on it. closest all rounder carbon bike so far. only thing i would want to change if i could is install a rohloff hub and belt drive and also install carbon aero bars on it.
This bike was really easy to assemble ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.
Thanks for the review! I've been looking for a bike to ride the length of the Burke Gillman on rainy days. I'm hoping the 2019 sirrus expert carbon fiber version is as good as the one you tested.
I don't have experience with the Trek model, but both companies have a history of creating a quality product. The value comes down to the components. I would compare both models you are looking at to determine what is right for you.
Great review, Brock! You've advanced my knowledge in making a decision between the Sirrus roadbike vs the Sirrus hybrid for my wife. However, as for what I don't like, please avoid the ridiculous carnival music background in the future which seems to diminish & detract from your eloquent spoken content. Seek out something like Aaron Copland "Fanfare For The Common Man" or John William's "Olympic Fanfare and Theme". You need some drama & "more cowbell" as Christopher Walken puts it: ua-cam.com/video/cVsQLlk-T0s/v-deo.html. Only then will I be likely to subscribe.
My 2012 Sirrus hybrid is just a bike. When you're a kid you don't think about what kind of bike you have, you just ride it everywhere.

Totally agree, the hybrid tours well and is comfy on the long rides. Thanks for the comments!

Just bought a 2020 Sirrus 3.0 disc and I'm thinking I'm going to love it.
Congrats! It is a rad bike!
Just bought this bike too i really love that summer blue color
Great Review! I just bought the EQ Version of the Sirrus and its nice to see, that you are sharing my opinion of this beutiful bike
Yes, it is a great bike. Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Brock, I had to swallow my pride too, not just for the hybrid setup but also, for the fact that flat pedals are more practical too.

It is perfect for that! I am 10 mile commute in the city and love it!

Love my Diamondback Trace with 45mm tires and springer fork. I’ve converted it to single speed and ride streets and concrete trails

Thanks for the comment Cory. I am sure the carbon will be a great bike. Give me a shout if you see me on the Burke!
@@SimplyBrock will do! I'm constantly on it :)
Really nice bike, now I’m thinking of getting one too 👍
Still have it? Someone is selling 2018 for 650 Canada, I think that's a high price, but someone will take it.
I just bought a used 2017 Sirrus Elite Disc in the red color. I can't wait to put some miles on the bike. What wheels did you change out to?
We have the exact same bike! I just picked one up. I'm pretty darn happy with it. How about you?
@@robertbelyea5767 I really like it. I can ride on the road or gravel.
Can I use one for touring? Yes no? BTW I paid 1400 for mine. I have a 2014 Sirius Comp.... non disc.
Yes for touring! I would have bar ends to give your hands some more placement options for comfort.
@@SimplyBrock I have end bars and areo bars..i like aero bars for wind and just to change position
Looks similar to the Specialized Sirrus City Comp.
Where did you get the rear rack??
Do you still like it three years on?
Still love it!
IMHO if one is a competitive, professional cyclist prolly not cos every gram, aerodynamic advantage, etc might count? For 99% or everyone else yes!
Which one is better? Sirrus or FX3 Disc?
I don't have experience with the Trek model, but both companies have a history of creating a quality product. The value comes down to the components. I would compare both models you are looking at to determine what is right for you.
FX3
How about speed road vs hybrid
Road is faster, hybrid is more comfortable with less flats!
I thought they were just road bikes with flat bars. Can it handle gravel?
Yes, the bike is pretty stable in gravel, but if that was my main surface I would consider different tires or getting something with suspension.
@@SimplyBrock Cool thanks.
I wanna see the bike...🤨
You were a road racer and this is the first bike you've owned with disc breaks? Sounds real sketchy bro.
As kind people have pointed out in comments before, I am old. Didn't have disk brakes back in my day... Lol
Simply Brock lol I guess kudos to you because you don’t look that old.
there used to be something called rim brakes lol, darn kids

Thanks for the feedback Richard. Still learning a lot on the shooting and editing of these videos and this type of candid feedback is key!
He talk a lot....insoportable
