That will be the best $1,995 he ever spent...what a gesture👍
Benjamin Ashton he was well behind his two opponents and on “Jeopardy” only the champions keep 100% of their winnings, so he made the greatest use of his remaining screen time he could think of. And, it truly was great.
@@bigeric1030 and this is the T of C so he gets $5k (i think) just for playing so he lost nothing really.
Not gonna lie, this made me tear up. His reaction was just heartbreaking, to hear his voice break like that. This guy was a legend.
Even more sad that this aired exactly a year before Trebek died...
“You’re left with $5 bucks.” Tears. Thanks Alex. You’re the best ever.
The other two contestants were like dam , he wins .
They should've felt that way but I'm pretty sure they were like *scoff* what an idiot he gave all his money away and now he only has $5.
The third and second place walk away with $1000 for playing. He wins either way
Trebek: “Please write down your answers”
Contestant: “I’m about to honor this man’s whole career”
This has been the only time I've laughed at this meme. Well done!
I'll take "National Treasures" for $2000. Rest In Peace. We Love You Alex.
"National Treasures" for $2000. This man stole the declaration of Independence.
Even as a Canadian, he had the hearts and minds of the American people for decades. I'm sure both nations are mourning his loss, among others throughout the world.
The little “ok” at the end 😢
“You’re left with $5 bucks...” and a mega-ton of character.
@@benjisaac This was the tournament of champions so I think he got $25,000 for getting to the semi-finals.
I’m pretty sure that contestant is already rich anyways lol, that was very nice though.
This will go down as one of the greatest moments in game show history.
Justin Simonelli
Agreed. What a beautiful moment. I so hope Alex pulls through. We really do love him.
I’m glad this guy did this. Men feel the need never show emotion. Sometimes, it’s good to do. You never know when you won’t have the opportunity to do that again.
What an amazing Contestant. Thank you Dhruv. RIP Alex. 37 years as Jeopardy's Host. You made Canada so proud.
He likely didn’t know the answer, yet chose the right one.
That or he knew with only 2000 to use the max he could win was 4000 so no way he could win so why not go out with an awesome answer
He later came out on his Twitter saying he knew the answer but backstage Alex told the contestants he was having to go back for treatment after the episode's recording
Even if he knew he couldn't win as the others would not have bet it all without knowing it for sure. Regardless it was touching and a classy move.
In 2007, I was lucky enough to go to a taping of “Jeopardy!” And although I didn’t get to have a full on meet and greet with Alex, he gave the audience a chance to ask questions during the breaks. I raise my hand and asked him how long he was doing the show for, and he said for about 22 years. A week later, I wrote him a letter saying how much of a fan of him I was an asked him for advice on pursuing my future career in broadcasting. And he wrote me back and said to be well read and to take a keen interest in everything that takes place around me. Rest in peace, Alex. And thank you for all the amazing memories you brought to everyone through the show and being such a kind and down-to-earth person.
thank you so much for the reply, and yes, it was the coolest thing ever! When I met the staff at the door, I told them how I’m a big fan of him who happens to be blind and asked if I could have a meet and greet with him. Even though they told me he was getting ready to start doing the taping, they were kind enough to put me in a spot where I’d be close to him during it. When I sat down in the seat they put me in, I was told he was 2 to 3 feet in front of me. I’m really happy I had the opportunity to quickly ask him how long he was hosting the show for and that he took the time to respond to my fan letter.
And for those who may be wondering how I’m able to read comments on UA-cam and posts on social media if I’m blind, there’s a screen reader on my phone and laptop that’ll read them to me. It’ll even tell me how many likes are on comments, so thank you to everyone who took the time to like my comment where I shared my story about how I had the chance to go to the taping of Jeopardy!
Alex still continued to work gracefully even with his declining health. May he rest peacefully
The irony was the category was “famous phrases” and now this will be a legendary phrase/moment in tv history
I love that he complimented his smile having no idea why he was smiling.
Dhruv is the best ever for telling Alex how we all feel while he was still here and needed to hear it, R.I.P. mr. trebek
Answer: The best game show host ever.
Question: Who is Alex Trebek? (rest in peace)
He almost sounded like he didn't care, but then you could hear he almost cried
Alex is a pretty modest guy. It probably meant the world to him, but he just seems shy about that sort of thing. He's the same was with his cancer too, he honors other people batting it but doesn't put himself out there as often.
The show must go on, the cut out from the scene is rough but you can certainly hear that it go to him.
I don’t understand why but hearing Alex say “left with 5 bucks” and the slight quiver of his voice made me cry 😢
@@guy_incognito7538 It's ok not to cry. Doesn't mean you don't have a kind heart. But someone who's asking WHY they cried, I'm just trying to emphasize that they do.
I know I got emotional myself. I grew up watching Jeopardy and The Wheel every night ❤️❤️❤️
"What is We Love You Alex?". Rest in Peace Alex Trebek.
I get choked up every time I watch this clip. The world is a lesser place today with the loss of Mr. Alex Trebek. A life well lived.
The genuine emotion shown on Alex's face hit me like a truck. This is just so beautiful.
Absolutely ❤ this guy. Even though I usually never get any of the answer 😂 I'm huge fan of the show.
Chemo can cause emotional lability. And nausea. And tiredness, It's basically poison.
Kindness, humanity. Neither one of them cost you a dime, yet their impact can be lifelong. Well done, young man.
Even a person adored by millions can be touched by a kind and thoughtful word.
My mom told me when I was 3 years old, while other kids would be playing with blocks and dolls, I would take an empty box, use it like a podium, and say, "This is Jeopardy!" Thank you Alex Trebek for all the years of entertainment and knowledge. To me, you will always be immortal. Rest in peace.
Omg, that’s such a cute childhood memory, and thanks for sharing it with us. Alex was a true legend and will always live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans.
RIP to the legend Alex Trebek.
So sad man, Jeopardy won’t be the same without him.
Just pull the plug on Jeopardy already....with him gone now, ain't no reason whatsoever to continue the show
No more hearing Johnny say: And now here is the host of Jeopardy, Alex Trebek!
Finding a replacement for him will take some work.
Ken Jennings or Brad Rutter would be good options IMO
@@chuckycheese84 either ken jennings or end the show, he’s the only successor i could imagine
Who else came back to this clip after learning of Alex’s passing? Will be forever missed. RIP :(
RIP LEGEND
Never thought a Jeopardy answer would make me cry.
I agree. There is a longer version with Alex explaining. I think he looks fantastic gping through chemo, and remaining loyal to Jeopardy and all his fans. Wonderful man
Not just the answer alone, but he fact that he gave away all the money as a gesture to make that statement.
I've never heard that man stutter in my life.

of all the celebrity deaths this year (or ever)... this is the only one I'm actually crying to... rest in peace Mr. Trebek. You had a hard and valiant fight... Jeopardy will never be the same again
Hearing about his death made me emotional. Hearing that his last episode coming out on Christmas sent me through a lot last night. I am just happy it was peaceful and that he has moved on to the next life.
He seemed like such a nice, wholesome man. I’ll miss seeing him on Jeopardy.
Wow, so sweet. Mr. Trebek, you take care of yourself. Continue to fight. We're all pulling for you. ❤
I am SO happy he wrote that for Alex. It’s true! And seeing him get emotional but still remain professional reminds us of how a classy guy Alex was. So sweet that he did that for him
I def teared up. RIP Alex Trebek. Jeopardy certainly has not and will never be the same. 😢

This is so wonderful! Wish my wife could have seen it - lost her to cancer 6 years ago and Jeopardy was our show. This will be remembered forever!
This hits way harder close to three years after Alex’s death. Love that the contestant didn’t even care that he would lose, since he wanted to make Alex’s night and possibly his whole life right there.
RIP Alex. I’ve watched since I was a child and you’ve helped me actually become more aware and knowledgeable. Without you, this world wouldn’t be the knowledgeable and bright world that it is. Thank you so much.
