- Repeat car thieves may face lengthy licence bans under proposed changes to Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.
Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria and Solicitor General Michael Kerzner provided details of new measures aimed at preventing violent auto theft at a news conference on Tuesday morning.
The Ford government wants to attach a 10-year driver’s licence suspension to a first conviction of auto theft that involved violence, use of weapon, force, or where the theft was motivated by financial gain.

How about if you steal a car you go to jail for 10 years minimum 2. if you don't have your PR card you are deported the day your found guilty.... 3. no bail while your waiting for your court date so you can keep doing the same thing... 4. if a weapon like a gun or knife is used in the act minimum 20 years .... that would 100% help fix the issue. and at the same time want to fix the gun issue any crime involving a gun should get the same minimum 20 years.

Constitutionally, the delivery of police services is the responsibility of provinces and territories.
The provinces are responsible for prosecuting most criminal offences in their jurisdictions, conducting bail hearings in relation to those offences and enforcing any conditions attached to a person who has been released on bail, including if there is a breach of bail conditions.
You can cry about JT some more, but he has absolutely nothing to do with it.
@@StormcastMarine This is where you're wrong. Criminal offences (called Felonies in the USA) fall under federal laws (Criminal Code of Canada) and therefore the federal government. It's 100% the responsibility of the federal government to set the penalties for any criminal offence. Provincial offences such as a parking or speeding ticket are not criminal (felony) and are dealt with by provincial courts and are the responsibility of the provincial governments. The provincial government is basically giving the maximum punishment they can possibly give, since the province has no say in how criminal convictions are given, but the province still controls who gets a driver's license.
@@StormcastMarine last time I checked, gun control laws that prevent Canadians from carrying firearms to protect themselves (which is legal in almost every civilized country) are imposed on federal level. Instead of introducing open carry rights, Trudeau deliberately makes the situation worse. Also poverty contributes to crime and Trudeau created a lot of it with his taxes and hyperinflation.
We have imbciles running this city. The people that are involved in car theft don't care about their driver's license. How about you actually enforce the existing laws instead of activist judges letting these criminals off easy?

Car thieves will not be deterred by having a drivers' license suspended since many don't drive with any licence or even vehicle insurance. Anti-theft devices added to Canadian vehicles would be a better more physical deterrent to use. Implementing fingerprint start, rentinal scan, or even breathalyzer system will stop thieves cold.
FOR HOW LONG ? Forever or it has NO MERIT ? Any criminal act should put the privileges' of driving, a passport, or other benefits at risk for a set time, as a deterrent and automatic as a fine on the record..

Also government should bring trial program on website with phone app to upload Ontario crazy drivers habits on Ontario streets or stunt drivers videos ( under minute and half or min ) footage made by dash camera or passenger side viewing camera to upload to police bureau, in that case police can easily monitoring the vehicles on the street to catch the mouse on the street to safe our people from accidents

Look at the USA they have all kinds of lost licenses, suspended licenses, and the people dont stop driving without insurance, license, or vehicle registration. Every new offense they pay a fine and keep on going. Try fines, suspensions and mandatory incarceration, to have an effect.
