After just 8 years the bearings of my AEG top loading washing machine started to leak and make some noise, while further the machine is fine with still guarantee on the motor for 2 more years! I enquired AEG and some repair shops about costs for repair. AEG charges 219€ to repair without any guarantee that repair can actually be done. If not repairable one still has to pay 120€. Another shop claimed that the whole tub+drum has to be replaced for about 400€. Another one says it will likely cost about 250€ to replace both bearings but that sometimes the axes are too damaged and bearing will still leak after repair. some others did not even reply to my repair/cost enquiry.
So, I decided to repair it myself.
The left bearing (part number 4071311544) and right bearing (part number 4071311536 ) cost about 50€ each.
Removing the bearings needs a lot of force, since they stick very well to the tub due the detergent rests and limescale. In the video is shown how to make a tool to remove the bearings. With the long levers of this tool one can apply a lot of force to the bearing to unscrew them.
It turned out to be very easy to replace the bearing with this tool. Just 1 hour to replace both bearings. - Навчання та стиль
Thank you. I managed to replace the bearing with confidence.
Thanks a lot for sharing this.
you're welcome. I hope it is helpful.
Great video, thank you for sharing your knowledge 👍
geen dank. Ik hoop dat je er wat aan gehad hebt.
@Rob YT I was able to open the machine and look at the bearing but found out that the axle broke off the drum. We decided to get a new machine. Thank you for your support.
Hey thank you for the video! How do I know if the Axis is the issue or the bearings are?
Well, if the axis is broken you could move the drum a lot.
If there is just a leak, you don't know if the bearing or the axis is worn out. most likely it's the bearing, though.
When you remove the bearing, you can inspect the axis. So, it's a matter of removing the bearing. You can order a bearing beforehand from AEG. If it's not needed, you can return it within 14 days for a small charge.
Good luck.
I have 2-3 year old Aeg 9000 and one bearing make noise... i just try open that plactic bearing cup but its not open, very tight and yes i look right rotate way what is market in "cup"...
Yes, it can be extremely tight! That's why we use this long tool. Because of the length, one can apply a very large torque on the bearing cup. (Initially we tried with a smaller tool, but that didn't work out)
@@YTdoityourself Thanks, next i use longer tool...
10mm socket, first find your 10mm socket!
That's how the machine is made. In EU it is a very common socket. I don't know about Anglo-Saxon socket standards. If you don't have a socket, you could try a spanner as well.
@YTdoityourself sorry its just a silly joke, you can never find your 10mm socket

@@yesihavereadit OK. I was afraid that in the UK they still have imperial tools like in US. Thanks for clarifying.
@YTdoityourself most stuff has been metric for years, but older things can still be 1/2" etc . And of course a lot of stuff is 25mm 12mm etc spookily close to inch measurements
