    Hey player, appreciate your videos as always. One thing I will say is for you a seasoned studio master a lot of this stuff is simple for you, but for some of your followers it takes supreme effort to get sh*t done coz we new to da game. So just saying I installed like other plugins is not too helpful, because as you know some plugins are straight forward others may take a bit more technical expertise that you have, coz you have the knack. But for others it might take a bit longer. Which is why I say maybe a good video would be to show us how you installed plugin and how you utilise it. I've had no issues with other plugins but when I tried this one, I had nothing but issues and hey I know your not the plugin developer! But your a teacher and it would help your fans. PS I bought your sound pack had no problems! Peace

    Hi, great tutorial as always 🤟🏽
    Once you do the process and switch off the "auto button", are you switching off the plugin too?
    And, once you finish the gain stage, does the VU plugin have to stay there or you can even clear it in order to free one slot plugin?

    If I'm not mistaken you need to turn off the "max peak," especially if you are setting it at -12. Saverio says in his tutorial on this plugin that if the audio is peaking pass the max peak threshold the plugin will bring down the audio so it doesn't exceed the "max peak," which may lower the audio below -18 RMS. -6 would be a better max peak setting than -12 or simply turn the max peak off.

    • @DaDrankKang

      No audio is the same. What is considered "better" in one circumstance may not be better in another. There is a reason the plugin gives you options. To determine what fits your audio. 👍🏾

    What's up Drank Kang! Quick question? So should I adjust any leves on the drums in the drum pad mixer or any levels on my VST's first, then put my processing on when creating my beat.. or do I just apply hornet like you did directly to the track?

    • @DaDrankKang
      @DaDrankKang  Рік тому +1

      The video is not about the plugin used. It was just used as an example for you to see the meter. The point of the video is to adjust your sounds before the fader. However you get that done is on you.

    D,
    I watched your video earlier because I wanted to understand the concept of "gain staging" better even though I did attend audio recording school from 1997-98. This was towards the end of the two-inch tape era when VU meters were the standard so this concept wasn't even taught. I'm using the MPC Element with 2.7 software nowadays but I didn't even realize that I was experiencing the same issues that you've demonstrated in this video. I recently made a set of beats, bounced them to Reaper, mixed & self mastered my MP3/WAV files then submitted them for "placement".Unfortunately, they were denied for lacking the quality standard of that music library. Now, I understand what steps I missed! So, I downloaded the "Hornet VU Meter MK4" then followed your steps in this video and my test run with signals was flawless!!! Thank you for exposing another game-changing technique for me again!!!
    I am grateful for all your efforts & contributions to our producer culture in Hip hop.
    I look forward to more excellent content...God bless!!!

      You can mix however you like. There is not set way to mix. To gain stage without plugins in standalone mode you would have to do some serious research on the math behind gain staging that way you can do it manually without plugins.

    I'm just watching this for the 1st time I'm going to get it and use it on my mpc live my thinking though is does it actually change the relationship volume between the tracks it doesnt sound like it but I just got to the point I can control bass no matter how many. I use to get loud bass drums and then other bass would be muddy but with a vu meter I have learned how to level them out basically by turning the bass down until its below red basically to -3 so they all can exist together and I use the actual drum pad volume to control bass drums levels and just the plugin volume for instruments so my beat is already premixed so to say as far as level dynamics between sounds but I like the fact you can level them all out to zero before you export but will it mess with the levels already set between different sounds example string might be the lead as far as volume and hi hat might be next then guitar this is the way I want your ears to perceive it not all equal in perception basically mixing levels not actually mixing as in stretching the loop out into a song.

      Gain staging is not just leveling. Do a little research on GAIN STAGING BEFORE MIXING AND WHY ITS IMPORTANT you will see why a plugin like this is valuable. That is why it's useful to have. The video shows why just using faders is not considered proper gain staging.

    • @biggmt6832

      I think what you mean is turning down the actual wave file.. turning the fader down is different than turning down the actual wave file. Im not sure if mpc software allows you to do that, but this method he is showing still gives every track the same amount of gain then having to use your eyes and turn each wave down
