That was a fantastic collection of big rig kits. I didn'i even know most of those were still in production, especially the former Ertl kits -- their detail was impressive. Thanks for that!
You're very fortunate to have a hobby shop in your town and such a well-stocked one at that. Here in Miami, Florida we had one hobby shop which recently had to move to a warehouse. It is now a mostly mail order operation which means they don't let you go in there and browse. The rent on retail space here in South Florida is so high that mom and pop stores cannot survive.
Right now there is abundance of truck and trailer lots to choose from. Again, another reason why it is great to be a modleler right now. Thanks for sharing.
This video just happened to "pop up" in my feeds, I've loved building truck models for years and years, kinda fell away about twenty five years ago because I got bored with it all, so tonight I caught this video and it reminded me of all the fun I used to have building models, and today marks a special day in my life, I got my first social security check, it's the number one thing to tell me that I'm finally free to get into doing something other than actually working, so I might just as well try to find a hobby shop somewhere close so I can get back to what I loved to do,
Hobby shops- use em or lose em! We have no hobby shops that i know of here in Akron Ohio! Other than the lobby , Michaels or pat Catans! The internet is putting a hurt on the little guys! We used to have 6-7 hobby shops! You have a great hobby shop there in Louisville ! Nice selection! Another great video Tim! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁👍🏻🫡🇺🇸
Nice semi truck kit selection Tim, thanks for bringing us along. I love cabovers as well. My favorite to date was the AMT BJ & the Bear. Basically the re released Kenworth Aerodyne with the BJ decals 😊👍
I like the way that they are coming back with the old box art. This is really a platinum time to be in model building. My favorite box art is the original Pete cab over with the night refinery scene, but the original Chevy Titan 90 is right in there. For trailers, it is the original drop deck lowboy with the electrical load. Thanks for sharing.
Great video!!! Amazing collection of big rigs. I remember in the mid-seventies when I started building these truck and trailer kits were priced at five dollars each. Glad there reproducing a lot of the vintage kits. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Tim to you and your family.
Excellent video Tim. I have a lot of those kits you showed. Mobieus has some real nice truck kit also. My wife just ordered me the spread axle flatbed trailer. I’m anxious to get started on that one. lol. Keep up the great work!!!
Mobius Models has some great truck and trailer kits as well. I got two of their modern 53 ft Reefer trailers and built them during the Pandemic lock down.
Place we used to go to not far from us when we were kids back in 70's had an AMT and Ertl selection like that. We saved money we made raking leaves and shoveling snow and would get our parents to take us and drop that hard earned $5 on different ones every couple weeks Lol
Super 👌 👍 😉 🇺🇸 🇫🇷 🚛
Thanks for the post, Tim. I seem to remember that when the Chevy Astro and the GMC Titan were 1st issued, that the cab was split behind the doors. One kit had a sleeper, and the other had a short cab
I believe that kit was the White-Freightliner cabover...with what I have come to refer to as the "wretched three piece cab"! Astro/Titan was sleeper cab only, author Phil Jensen devoted a chapter in his 1970's book "Building Model Trucks" to cutting down the Titan kit's cab to a day cab configuration, and making it a single drive tractor using rear axle and springs from the Ford LN series kit.
I used to build the Ertl kits when I was a kid, trucks, trailer and tractors, they were high quality molding in color, you didn't have to paint them. All the AMT kits were poorer quality fit and you had to paint them.
I spent big on trucks this year, Tim. I have everything I really want, except a conventional Freightliner that matches the Freightliner cabover (round headlights vintage). If you find one, let me know where!!! Just got the newest KW K123 and KW Aerodyne from my favorite hobby shop in Michigan, the same weekend of the Detroit show. I think I need to come to Louisville for some trailers!
The International Paystar 5000. ⭐ Have been trying to get 2 of those and they keep ELUDING ME‼️ I served in the Army in Fort Lewis Washington in the 864 Engineer Battalion and in our inventory of equipment was 2 each IH Paystar 5000 painted in good ole Olive Drab. I want to recreate those 2 trucks. I've already got a few bulldozer's, one of those are marked for a R.O.P.S cab, Olive Drab paint job, and big white star for the hood.
@THROTTLEPOWER the left side of the bumper said 864 ENGR BN and the right side said TRK# ?? . I wish I could remember what the numbers were to the trucks and dozer. The only problem is decals. 🤔 BUT WAIT ☝️😃 STS Decals❗
Hey Tim what's your secret to making AMT decals lay down? Just finished AMT 359 Pete tried to use dash decal used micro sol, walthers,Tamiya mark fit reg and strong . Ended up painting it wood grain and all. Told Brian I was cussing you the whole time. It was was your videos that inspired the build. Ps in the end came out great. Thanks for the videos.
For the dash decals John I usually have to remove all the detail so the decal lays on "more" of a flat surface. And/or break up the decal into a few parts (2 or 3 pieces) so you are laying smaller pieces down vs. 1 piece. The smaller pieces are much easier to work with.
will they mail these kits to ya ??...what do ya have for prices....we all understand there,s been a 4/5 hundred % mark-up because of covid....wtf ....thank-you for any info mate !!
Just checked the website.... you can't even shop online, have to call and ask for everything you want to know about. Seems like a waste because it looks like an awesome store

Nice set of model trucks, and trailer it's like a candy store for us modelers

That it is.
Cool, thanks for the info.

Cool video Tim, lots of great kits out there!
I agree, there are some fantastic kits available.
I love scale reproduction! Brian is one of the best around to deal with! His prices are a little steep on kits though.
Love Scale Reproductions!!!!!

I started building model trucks when AMT came out with the Peterbilt 359 California Hauler
I use to put them together as a kid now as a truck driver I will still put them together.i notice Walmart start selling scale model

I have a few if those in my stash. I need to finish the dump truck. It's been on the back burner for over 2 years now.
I know that feeling, I have so many projects that are just sitting around waiting to be finished Chris.
Good selection there. My local hobby shop has a good selection as well, just picked up the Aerodyne there last week.

That's awesome! What a deal!
The Great Dane trailer models were originally from Ertle
Thank you, I couldn't remember.

@@kennyspaulding796 Yep, STS can hook you up!!!!!
That is a lot of big rig kits. I think I've only seen, at most, 4 big rig kits at the local hobby shop.
Definitely a lot of Big Rigs there Larry.
The best big rig kit ever was the DM 800 Mack.
I agree, that is a good one!
Sure would be nice to find the Movin On Kenworth kit from AMT
Yes, that would be a good find Geoff.
Hey Geoff, I'm pretty sure STS Deaclas offers the Movin On decals to build the truck.
