What he was saying about yoshi and dreamland made so much sense, that’s how I feel (when playing fox) vs Marth on FD, I’m really motivated to win that game in particular and I play a lot cleaner and more carefully bc I’m aware of that

I haven’t been watching Melee for quite a bit and remember hearing about Genesis and then I saw the set between Cody and Jmook and was so fucking confused like I was whiplashed; I had absolutely no idea who this guy was but congrats nonetheless on the win, great stuff Zain and also Jmook
This is unrelated to the video, but I have an open ended question if anyone wants to give their opinion.
Context: Being not competitive, but competent (average-ish unranked) player playing as a hobby, I’ve been noticing more and more that the trend on unranked is to play defensively and never approach once you take the lead. It seems like there isn’t a solid counter strategy to it.
The question: What do you guys do to outplay campers that just wait for mistakes once they take the lead? (I play fox and sometimes falco).
My guesses:
- I have to learn more what options they’d prefer (e.g., marth dashback grab)
- I have to move less predictably in approaching
- less jumping, more dash dancing

Idk, try well timed overshoots ? And I think with falco you just shouldn’t be chasing so much. Only enter with a well timed laser or an overshot dair idk

This isn't a disrespect to the other current top players, it's just Zain (obviously lmao) and mang0 (when he's playing right) are still just a notch above everyone else
What are you even talking about? ibdw literally beat both zain and mango at summit 12 to win the tournament, in there set at genesis they went game five last stock too (where he only lost because of a missed ledge dash), this is the first post covid event zain has won, he lost at summit eleven, twelve, and didn’t enter anything else until genesis. and post covid mango has lost to plup, amsa, ibdw, zain, hungrybox, fiction, llod, and finally fizzwiggle, a player who was a plus 60 seeded player, who after beating mango lost his next two sets to drop out at like 34th
Any top player when “playing right” is a contender to win a tournament, not specifically mango. plup, amsa, ibdw, wizzrobe, and even polish, when playing right have all taken zain to at least game five In the past year, it’s just weird to declare two players a notch above the rest when there’s just not enough data to back that claim up, because maybe you haven’t noticed, this was the first lan event zain won post covid, he lost summits, 11 and 12 to mango and ibdw. And didn’t enter anything else until genesis. Like shouldn’t you wait for more results before jumping straight on the “their better than anyone else, to the point there aren’t any serious contenders” Bandwagon?
