Whoa, I have a Class A 6.0 but never knew they even made a 5.0. Was it replaced by the 6.0?
I still have & use a pair of the even-older Class A 100 II bridged, one to each channel of my HOME AUDIO system... "Liquid Acoustics" is what a buddy of mine called it after he came over & listened.
He actually left immediately to buy a new CD of one of his favorite albums, and came right back just to hear it on my system.
LOVE that old SoundStream D Series II & original Reference gear. Good Job Wade Stewart!
Great video! I got similar results when testing an old school Soundstream Reference 300 a while back. From what I've seen, the 90's Rockford amps are the most underrated. It would be cool to see a mid 90's Orion 2100 HCCA tested also.
Love these tests on old school amps. I'm still rocking my MMAT D200.1 from 2000.
I'm loving the idea of these videos i hope you keep making more!
this is a great series steve keep it up
I feel like you haven’t aged in 10 years.. Awesome Content man. You have Revolutionized the Car Audio game.
steve you're going to save a lot of ebay buyers' sound systems. truly think you and amplified are the saviors of the old quality sound system ways.
Nice! Looking forward to watching all your future amp dyno videos. Good Stuff Steve. :)
Pretty cool, those old school Soundstream amps were sick, always wanted the Ref 500.
You are the Master of Car Audio dude.
I love these videos Steve!
Awesome! keep up all these amp dyno vids. Very sweet
I feel like Steve's videos are like a tv show. Every week I'm like,"I hope Steve puts up some new videos!" Love the videos! Keep doing what you do, and maybe one day you'll have your own tv show! Which I hope happens:D
i was just trying to see how many people saw them in your badass vid man
soundstream was all i wanted back in the 90's...had to settle for eclipse head unit, image dynamics speakers, rf amps and subs.....still a great set up...
I like these vids! Keep up the good work. Cool to see some older amps being put to the test. If you ever have the chance I would love to see a Planet Audio amp ran on the dyno. It would be cool to see a older USA made Planet Audio vs the newer China made ones that are rated at the same watts.
Loving tuesdays now
The man takes his own fuse out of his own Tahoe to bring us this test and keeps it going. Now that's love.
I’m sold on the old school Soundstream. Best sounding, best build quality and put the smile on my face. Each must find their own, but this brand is mine, but only their old school stuff. Wouldn’t care for their new stuff at all. They lost it when the design and build quality changed. So sad to see it go!
Thats a pretty consistent amp! I love the old school stuff :)
Old school power right there, looks good all cleaned up to. Numbers speak for themselves.
Ive been waiting for along time for someone to test out amps to see what amps really put out.been a subscriber for awhile.need to do the amazon 6000 watts brands..lol great vids homie
Now that would make a most interesting bench test!***
this is my personal shop, my man cave. It's not a stereo shop. It is my own amp....and it is supposed to be 1/4 ohm stable - so no prob anywhere that i see.
Had a kicker xs-100 and ran it at 1/4ohm daily for several years and it never shut off . That amp was beast you should test one of thoes
yup thanks man!
Cool, like the new series amp Tuesday, cea amp new brand added to my list that are worth buying
I have one as well and it kicks!, since it's a class AB amp it works very good for "voice" speakers as well. It also makes my selenium mids and tweets "scream" cleanly. Would also really like if Steve did a test on the A8000T.
Holy shit nice vid. Never thought a soundstream would even be close to rated..for one their fairly cheap. I was figuring in about 325wrms bridged that 490 is crazy keep it up!
I know that there were many amps back in the day that bumped hard. The cleanest sound I heard was Soundstream . There were many but none I would rather have than this brand. I’m sure some will disagree, but as for me, this was the best sound of all! Stay safe mates!😊👍🏻😷
Very impressive for a class a amplifier! You should use this in a build for the front stage, and maybe 1 or 2 more for a pair of subs.
The mobile audio amp I desire more than all others is Soundstream Class A 10.0 While I appreciate the testing of amps in this shop I sure hope I don't end up buying one after its been thru the 1/4Ohm torture.
cool to know oldschool still rules i had a 10.0 soundstream on to savard pro 12" and it kicked ass
I would love to see you test that tiny Soundigital you did a video for a few months ago. I will be impressed if it actually achieves the rated power, being so small as it is
he made a vid of the amp i asked him about thanks man.
these are really helpful...gives good insight on amp quality...that soundstream amp is still kicking lol
i agree! that wasn't in the budget though and this thing is EXPENSIVE to build just the way it sits already haha...but ya, i agree, that would be dope.
dude I had one of these amps a lonnnggg time ago i'd love to have another one
old school rockford p200.2 amp that shit is still good after 10+ years
I love amp test tuesdays
cant wait till next tuesday
wow steve has a pack of camel 99s on his work bench didnt see that right a way keep the vids rockin steve
Very nice amps I have a reference 10.2 myself I use to repair car audio amps,headunits,etc.. guess I still could just had to break free from it for a little while.
It would be cool if you could compare decks with different pre-out voltages, and the effect it has on the amps output!
We would LOVE to see a Punch 75 25 to life! Geard they do close to 500-600 watts brudged!
I had a Class A 6.0 back in the day and loved it. Wish I could find one. Great video and nice to see an old school cheater amp benched.
I used to love the 'cheater' amps back in the day! Another great little amp was the Hifonics Pluto 60 2x30watt. Had one on two Cerwin Vega 8" subs ported facing the rear of my 1980 280ZX and most people thought I had 12" subs back in 1989-90 when I first got into sound. For an amp that was only about 4" x 6" and 60 watts it hit pretty good on those subs. Wish I knew what the true wattage was.
great idea steve amp testing tuesday is the sh*t
Brian, Steve's AD-1 makes measuring amp output power much easier than my setup. I also have resistors and DD-1 technology in my setup, but Steve is able to push buttons to change ohm loads, I have to change wiring...takes me forever to test an amp. My results would be the same as his "certified mode" results. I cannot perform the other two until I get an Amp Dyno :-)
You should put all this test videos in a playlist (Y)
You getin there potna at 41....I'm 46 and still love the low lowz
Do the pioneer premier mono amps, thanx a million. Love your work
awesome videos
Hey man ppi is the shot I got a 2000.1 that thing is amazing real good quality
love those fans. work at a hot ass factory and they bring those things out and they work hella good
I love too see my old power 250m's tested..lol
Damn I feel old.... punch 45, orion Hcca's. .. linear powers or some old mtx amps please.... dig these videos.
Thanks for doing them!
I think this is a fair call...I own a few 10.0's which sound just beautiful so the SQ's not an issue. But also have to agree on the failure rate too- in my case 2 of mine died (only ran as low as 2-ohm too)- just because. And boy do they STINK when they let go :P
Ever think about doing a song request day?
3 6 mafia late night tip?
Love the vids.
because he is using different tracks for different ohms/modes on the dyno. some gradually slope in volume to clipping/distortion, others reach that point almost immediately
classic Soundstream Class A. x.0 amps only use the right side input when in bridged/mono mode.
I sold quite a few of those amps back in the day! :)
Old school Amps are the best :)
I would really like to see a couple old skool fosgate amps on all test Tuesday. the punch 45.2 and the punch 800.1 the a or z. from the 1996 to 1998 years.
Steve you should test one of those little 300 watt sound digital amps. the pocket sized ones.
You should make a book of all this
I would really like to see Steve test the new hifonics brx amps to see if these amps do what they claim and end all arguments that hifonics are good or bad.
Had a 10.0 back in the day. Cleanest amp ever built in my opinion.
yup one of the best...too bad they got so hot they self destructed very easily. One little fan on the top is all it took though to cool it enough to live :D
one of the old school Orion "Cheater" amps would be cool for you to test
I have that same exact stapler!!
You should see what the new alpine mrv-m500 amp does
i have a jbl500 ez that will be making an appearance soon on ATT. :D
I'd be interested in seeing the Sound Stream 705 tested and also a 10.0.
Damn. After seeing that I want my old hcca 225 and 250 tested
Thanks for the videos really enjoyed them a question what is the biggest difference in the way you do and then the way Big D Wiz do but I like both of us channels on UA-cam thanks again
I just realized that headunit is the same one I have in my car :D
love watching your amp tests. one amp i would love to see and have your thought about is the Earthquake mini D2500. for a small amp they say it produces 2000rms claiming to be the smallest 2000rms mono on the market with new circuitry. i would really like to know if for real the amp lives up to its ratings or if its just a waste of time. i would really love to hear your view about it. Thanks. keep up with the excellent videos
But seriously what do you think about the new Soundstream Reference amps?
+namcost stop playing the know it all. You sound very stupid right now. The original Soundstream amps only use ONE RCA when in Mono.. Period. No need for the other one, it does nothing.
meade916 I have a sound stream reference class A 6.0 amp and I'm not sure how to tell if it's working properly it sounds awful distorted on my old school mtx terminator 10s what settings should I use
hey bro I love amp test Tuesday.do u think the new soundstreams are like the old ones?
Ive got a newer soundstream amp, and i love it!
I just bought a Soundstream P1.1000D. I haven't upgraded my alternator. I would like to see one tested tho. It hits good on my Alpine SWR12D2 at 1 ohm
i wish you had a video on the fosgate t20001bd
Hey Steve i was just wondering if by any chance you would be able to test a sound ordnance M1500 mono amp it claims to put out 500 watts rms at 2ohms i got one of these for $100 and it sounds pretty good for a amp of that price range and i have been dying to know if it actually makes that much power i really really hope you see this cause i have not been able to find a video any were of somebody testing one of these and you are the man for the job so fingers crossed
I do car audio as a hobby and I will admit I do not know too much about amplifiers but how old was that amp? Could it possibly be not reaching its big power mark because of wear on the capacitors and coils in the amplifier? I know that computer power supplies and or computer parts will drop by up to 40% of power output over a long time of use and I would imagine car amplifiers do the same. Love your videos by the way, you are the reason I picked car audio as a hobby, kept it up man!
I still have a blue reference500 but it don’t work anymore...my all time favorite amp. Shit banged my fosgate 12’s in my caddy.
That amp is a far superior amp to some of the crap put out today an awesome SQ amp
noticed that the run to clipping it asked for track 3, and you ran track 4 does that make a difference.
Do new soundstream amps put out the power they are claiming now and days ? Thanks just curiosity before I purchase
Hey what are you hooking your speaker in puts into to do your test? I have your Dyno the handheld one and so far I can only get it to work when they speaker is plugged in and I don't want to blow it any help would be great..
i see david!
where are you located? if you still do the testing for amps that people send in I'm curious as to what my pyramid PB717x does I know it's not much but it sure does push my HDS215 pretty good
i do. Just no 40a.
Not sure if you will answer this Steve, but I was wondering why sometimes the numbers jump right to, for example 495, and sometimes, it takes a short while for it to make it there.
Hey Steve, question . Do I need to upgrade my alternator to run my stock battery for starting . And a deep cycle battery for my amp? Also could you test a soundstream tx.2000 .1 ? Recently purchased . Wondering what the actual RMS is lol . Thanks
Hey steve i have a couple old schools i would love to see what they would do on the dyno.. I have a couple PG mps 2500 and the zpa 0.3...
actually as GREAT as those amps sound, they have one of the worst track records in the history of amplifiers as far as failure.
hey,
whats the difference between dynmaic und the other method till distortion?
depends on what your running it on and what brand do you want?
meade916 I'm betting this amp would surpass the ratings at 1kHz. Most of the OS full range amps were tested at 1kHz as this gives more output power. I have a Soundstream Reference 500 (1993) and MC 500 (1989), I'll put on my AD-1 soon. Thanks for doing this test!
From what I've seen with the other SS amps around this time, they don't quite meet their ratings. They were rated at full power at 12V and with the Reference 500 and Class A 6.0, they did rated, but it took almost 14V. See the Ref 500 tested here ua-cam.com/video/iKUfgMGuOoA/v-deo.html
BigDWiz in the Houuuuuse!!!!
