- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power came out a little over a year ago. Let's have a look at how it's held up, including how it subverts the "Chosen One" trope (and of course we'll talk about Catradora).

The big problem with She-Ra though is that there is no physical release of the last two seasons. As long as the series is only fully available on Netflix there is always the danger of loosing it. For preservation reasons we need a physical release or something else that serves that purpose.
Hopefully there are at least archival copies, though I haven't looked into it

End of May last year. After rewatching ATLA when it came to Netflix I got a recommendation for SheRa I am so glad I decided to start it. Rewatched the whole show maybe twice. Season five at least 4-5 times. Random episodes I have lost count. Your videos are always great and I loved your review of season 5. 😁

I've probably watched She-ra like six or seven times, to be honest, I watched it like three times in a month because it's THAT GOOD. Also, I cry every single time. I'm so glad this show exists. I wish it had been on air when I was a kid, it would've changed my life.

I swear there are so many scenes in this show that make me cry. Almost all happy tears. Like I will just see certain frames of animation and tears will come to my eyes with no warning.
(I'm realizing most of those are scenes with catra and Adora 😂)
Everything about this show from the animation to the voice actors to the music is absolutely phenomenal.

Commenting before I've even started the video, but can I just say, even seeing this pop up in my feed makes me emotional about the show's impact and legacy! In complete earnest, watching She-Ra last summer and spending so much time with Adora and Catra gave me some of the tools I needed to figure out that I am gay (not bi, like I thought for many years), and that's enough of an anecdotal testament to its power... but on a broader scale, I just think it's so meaningful that so many of us still talking about it a year and change after it wrapped up. It's an incredible story, and I'll spend the rest of my life thanking the cast and crew for bringing it to life.

Ok, now that I've finished, if I may bare my soul for a moment: Before I was out to myself as Gay Not Bi, I knew that I related to Adora's self-sacrificial and perfectionistic nature and felt the closest thing to real attraction you can feel toward a fictional character toward Catra (though I fought that down _hard_ for a while, because the strength of that attraction was actually overwhelming if I let it be what it was, and I was embarrassed by it), but I didn't really know why the last season, with all the themes of allowing yourself to want things and to pursue the things you want, hit me _so hard._ I didn't know why the scene that consistently made me lose it was Adora's future vision. At first I attributed it to having overcome trauma in my early 20s and having finally reached that kind of stability and happiness in my own relationship, but I knew pretty quickly that that wasn't it, because I _wasn't_ stable and happy. Something was missing. When I started using other tools to explore my sexuality and ask myself questions I'd never really asked before, I started realizing... that scene hit me so hard because I wanted that future vision, exactly as it was. I wanted to love a woman and have her love me back. And I had never really let myself want that before. I can't really put into words what it feels like to finally _feel_ my gay feelings and let myself experience that want. It's been just as transformative for me as it was, literally, for Adora.
Also, not really pertinent to your analysis, but because there's a clip of it here, I just. _Constantly_ need to talk about She-Ra bridal-carrying Catra back to the ship, and about how my mind drew an instant, direct, _overwhelming_ parallel between that moment and the moment in Hercules where Herc rises out of the river of death carrying Meg's spirit. At first, all I noticed was that the parallel was there, and the only way I could articulate it was that this moment brought me right back to my Meg-worshipping tiny self. I realize now... I felt similarly toward Meg in childhood that I do toward Catra now, and the one to carry the Woman I Am Extremely Attracted To out of danger being another woman instead of a man was the missing ingredient. I'm convinced now that I would have been out and proud in childhood if I had had She-Ra around.
Oh, and my rewatch count is sitting at 11. Almost 12. ((:

It's amazing how we came a long way from Korrsami. This is reminding how much I used to love She-Ra and how good it is. Definitely deserves another rewatch, especially with my little cousins. So glad to see another video from you
I was hesitant to start She-Ra because I thought that it wouldn't hold my interest. The last few episodes really made it all worth it for me. Seeing young lgbt characters get to have a future to look forward to was very special to me. I wish this show had been around when I was a teen because I thought there was no future for me to look forward to.
I've rewatched it once (though my first watch was after it was all out). The first time was with my girfriend, in fact we got together because we started watching it as friends, and the experience brought us so much closer. That first time we both cried and cried at the finale, professing how much we loved each other and how happy we were to have this experience together, it was the gayest moment of my life and I treasure it immensely.
Now my first rewatch was with a dear friend who was having questions of gender identity. Through rewatching it cemented how much I saw of myself in Adora and Catra's characters, how so many of the things I've struggled with match her struggles, and this allowed me to introspect in a way I hadn't before and confront some of my past trauma in a way I had never done before. My friend, meanwhile, felt emboldened enough by the message of hope of the whole series that about a week later she came out as transfem and she's like been happier than I've seen her in a long time and it just really confirms to me that you're right, that final scene of the series is like a medicine, healing us queers from some of our fears and pains, reminding us there's a future for us.
Also not as important but Adora has inspired me to become the sword lesbian I have always dreamed of being.
You are everything I aspire to be.

What I love about the Dygiilyiahspjtos scene, is that the rune on Adora's chest, the failsafe, is first one's writing for stay. It's in the failsafe, that she has to choose herself.

my problem with the idea of desconstruction/subvertion: is that in japan, the adventures and hrdships that the hero endures are seen as lesson that will serve in the adult life, while in occident that idea is actually being mocked...

My favourite thing about the ending was actually entrapta, hordak, and wrong hordak.
Don't get me wrong, sapphic hero kiss, big amazing, but the utter joy of those three, and it just being there, not being the big center moment, and not being explicitly romantic, just entrapta, hordak, and wrong hordak being happy together. *chefs kiss*
