Yes! A master class in subtext. This is what this songs is all about that others seem to struggle to convey. Thank you to the brilliant Dame Judi Dench for the sublime performance of this song.
I truly believe that no one has ever done it better than her in this production. Her Desiree breaks your heart, and it’s so subtle yet real- thank you so much for posting!
I saw this production and have never forgotten Dame Judi Dench's performance - completely opened my eyes to what a masterpiece this song is. Thank you for putting this performance up and reminding me how exquisite she was!
You have to understand that this song was written FOR Glynnis Johns - a wonderful actress, but not a trained singer. All those wonderful singers out there tend to overperform this song and focus on the notes. Like Johns, Dame Judi Dench is a PHENOMENAL actress, but not a trained singer. Which is one of the reasons why this version of Send in the Clowns is one of the best ever recorded.
WOW! I don't even know where to begin the plaudits. I've heard this song many times, but it never told the story that is conveyed so brilliantly here. Dench shows her remarkable ability to take us to the depths of poetry and illuminate it transcendentally.
Dame Judi Dench is one brilliant actress. Love watching her on As Time Goes By and in presentations of Masterpiece Theatre. Later she played M in several James Bond movies.
What idiot decided to run the end credits over this amazing and definitive performance?? Still, I've probably watched this clip dozens of times and am still blown away.
With the flawlessly timed teardrop right on the last note, too. She's amazing.🥰

This is such an exquisite example of Dench's ability. She is one of the greatest actors of our time! 👏
how people who go through the trouble of clipping such great scenes without staying long enough to include the applause is beyond me.
I've never really understood this song before. Now it's perfectly clear.

Did you see Bernadette Peters?

Absolutely stunningly heartbreaking
Just beautiful. I love her and I love this song
I agree
There is in my opinion no better Desiree to have ever existed 👏🏼
My Mom loved this song.
Simply the best version.

I'm delighted by this upload, thank you!
Emotionally devastating.
Wonderful
Wow 😢
Fuck, she's amazing with that song.

You really should see more of her on stage. Check out her performance of Lady MacBeth. It's absolutely riveting.
Magnificent
The ultimate version for me. I truley believe Sondheim thought she delivered it BEST !!!
Wow.
❤
WOW! Awesome!
This is one of those songs where an actor gets the meaning across better than a singer.
That's because the song was written for an actress. Sondheim didn't have a singer in mind when he wrote it.
@@seantodd8875 That makes sense. I like Judy Collins interpretation, but it didn't move me like this version.
What idiot decided to run the end credits over this amazing and definitive performance?? Still, I've probably watched this clip dozens of times and am still blown away.
wow wow wow brillian. Understated, acted rather than sung....again please
As Sondheim described the differences, Glynis Johns' voice is a flute, while Judi Dench is a cello.
Those are the two best versions. The right mix of acting and singing.
What fool decided it was a good idea to run the end credits over this performance??
This version will rip your heart out, assuming that you have a heart...
Where do I find this play in its entirety?
Is this a clip from a play or is this it in its entirety?
Is there a full video on this production?
I had no idea Judi was so well endowed!
Careful, This is 'M' you're talking about!
