I'm glad for this time we're in and I'm thankful for Katt and Taraji. Oprah is finally getting a taste of her own damn medicine. She loves to tarnish reputation with false allegations. I'll never forgive Oprah for doing that disgusting interview with that trash Megan Markle and the lies about baby's skin color. Oprah put that interview on an international -- global -- stage -- like a grenade went off and started a war of words over racism and it all pointed to the late Queen Elizabeth II who at the time was in her 90's, and her husband was on his deathbed and Oprah did that and didn't give a damn. Oprah can go to hell with the Color Purple because nobody gives a shit.

I have never been a fan of Oprah growing up... my instincts. something about her has always been off. What was Oprah's salary as the producer?! Exactly, Spielberg never wanted to touch the movie but Oprah insisted. Taraji did interviews and she honestly answered the questions asked. She made decisions to speak the truth of what was going on with her. No one should be punished for speaking the truth because the real of the world does not like it. Fumi, I love your reviews, Taraji only answered the questions asked, and she opted to just be honest.

    • @shaylove3786
      @shaylove3786 11 місяців тому +8

Okay how is this Oprah's fault or responsibility to negotiate the pay of the actresses? Taraji has a team who should be handling this. Why did she take this role if it was not paying what she is worth? She could have said no to the salary and the movie.

@@shaylove3786 Her relatives said she embellished her poor upbringing and made up stories about sexual abuse to boost her ratings in Kitty Kelly's biography. I don't trust her. She's a snake. Have you ever wondered why she's the only black female billionaire in Hollywood? That's cos she loves being the only one at the top. Mo'Nique won an Oscar for her role in Precious, she only got paid $50,000. Who were the Producers? Oprah, Tyler Perry & Lee Daniels. She kicked off when she was asked to promote the film at her own expense. They blackballed her 'cos of that. They just love being at the top suppressing other black artists. Shame on them.

@@shaylove3786It's very easy to say "why did you take a raw deal when you knew what it was?" But how many have the luxury of turning down a job when it can literally put food on the table and cover those bills and debt that are weighing you down currently? I know what that's like so no, I emphatically disagree with that way of thinking. The reality is, a lot of people that are better off and in positions of power enjoy their privileges and abuse subordinates in the workplace. In most cases we don't have recourse and just have to swallow our pride and accept 10 cents instead of $50. It's my current workplace nightmare

It’s so hurtful to see the oppression and it bringing up memories for her and those feelings for a women born 1938. She just said she doesn’t like seeing it 😔 so it didn’t need to be remade. I am proud that he is man enough to speak the truth with proof to back everything up. His mention of teachers touched my heart. I was a teacher for over 30 years. The pay is terrible, the kids are challenging, and the retirement is lousy, yet we teach because we love our children and realize that they are our future. I hope Katt continues to tell his truth and pray that he will be safe as he is dealing with some powerful and vengeful people.

I stop caring about Oprah yearssssssss ago. Her interview “about” Michael Jackson with those white guys was not necessary. Micheal had been gone for 8 years and she decided to have a conversation “about” him with them. She has not said one word in defense for (her friend) Harvey Weinstein victims. And her interview with Tony Braxton was uncalled for. The interview with Harry and Meghan was for Oprah not them. Oprah has been for Oprah and the powers that be for quite sometime. It goes w/o saying she would have not done this to a cast of white actors/actresses. Love you Fumi❤❤❤ Keep up the good work. You are fabulous.

Most of us are a classy group on Fumi's channel. I'm glad that we are making her proud about our comments. People are trying to blame Tariji for the movie flopping. But truth be told, a lot of us black people don't want to see it and it will only appeal to a certain number of peope within other races. So how much money did they expect for this to make? As a black Caribbean woman, I had no wish to see this at all even when people kept talking about its release. And then with young people fighting over Stanley cups, how much of them would be interested in this movie?

Us younger folks do not want to erase the past. There is an awareness amongst us. But we want to feel uplifted, celebrated and educated when we enter the room.
Tarji P gave everyone especially the younger sisters a valuable lesson .....there is a time and place for everything. Even the Bible says this......"
you cannot show up to work ( mad at what happened the day before) with three cuts in eyebrows trying to wild out😅".
Do what you're contracted to do and go home. Next movie, you clean house and renegotiate.

She did all the press work unlike Monique. In addition, Taraji spoke about in private and as usual sisters betray and put you on blast. What folks can't see is that: Gayle and Oprah do interviews for $$$$. Not to bless you. It's simple, money talks and adjective walks. She did the same to Prince Harry.
Note: Oprah mentioned "the studio, the studio, the studio."
Taraji doesn't have to work anymore if she so desires. She has plenty of $$$$$.

My advice Oprah, don’t send for Katt because he will show up. Oprah, you would not have treated white actresses that way. Taraji had the right to speak her peace. Oprah was never my hero and she was not that nice. The way she treated Toni Braxton, Whitney, the Jackson’s, etc. was not nice. Now she’s blaming Warner Bros. for the problems on set. She is what we call nasty nice…

@@skqq3250I don’t perceive Fumi “back stepped.” Part of the reason TCP flopped is because not enough people wanted to see it. But, there going to blame Taraji for their losses, not Oprah!
We BEEN KNEW this about Oprah. Oprah has never been about addressing issues that affect black people. TCP is just a “pet project” for her.
As Katt suggested, Oprah is one of those people who is paid to NOT talk about black issues. So, there is absolutely NO reason for us to expect her to look out for black actors. Her history in the business tells us that.
And we BEEN KNRW Hollywood underpays black actors. But, that doesn’t change the fact that Taraji’s team dropped the ball in negotiations. NEVER rely on someone to act out of the “kindness of their heart” when money is on the line. ESPECIALLY not Oprah!
Taraji is justified in her complaint. But, she shot herself in the foot by bringing it up at the WRONG time.

For me, the color of purple was very depressing and those type of movies do not appeal to me as originals much less as remakes. I watched the original once at the movies and I felt as if I was being punished - being that I was "trapped" (I was a child and couldn't leave). At any rate, I haven't watched it since and I have no intentions of watching any current and/or future remakes.
That being said, it broke my heart to see Taraji in tears over her salary... The older I get the more I lose respect for the entertainment industry...it's 2024 and still people are having to deal with inequalities due to the color of ones skin...and not just anyone...it's Taraji - shes a freaking superstar... I’ve always loved Katt! The number one reason is he’s always the same! Be it him doing comedy or when speaking his truth.
Many are finding out that he too experienced a lot just like Taraji.
When you examine all the people who were so called targeted in his Club Shay Shay interview ….he had a long history with these folks. It wasn’t random…he wasn’t under the influence of alcohol…which he clearly let Shannon Sharpe know.😂😂😂
This was clearly something he gave a lot of thought to. It was planned and executed to perfection.
The actions of these people clearly hurt him very deeply at some point and the time finally arrived for him to clear the air.
It took a lot of courage…he’s been through a lot! I for one have a lot of respect for him and send prayers up for the ancestors to surround him and his family with their love and protection.
His actions were powerful…he was speaking for many who felt that they couldn’t speak up for themselves without ruining their careers.
I appreciate you Fumi for discussing this topic and other great topics on your platform.

IMO the movie was beautifully done!!! I didn’t hear any complaints about it being done on broadway. I think Taraji’s truth was HER truth and no one should try to take it away from her. If you don’t like it, fine, but I say we need to support our Black Actors and Actresses.

🔥over 2 decades now, I have been deep down this rabbit hole. Oprah’s name has come up many many times as a handler and groomer. Oprah is very dangerous. Why? Because she comes across as your friend and will win you over with presents and her kindness and so called caring but…..once you accept that from her you owe her. You owe her for life! She gathers rich and famous around her so when she needs favors…..YOU OWE HER! She is vile disgusting and worse she is dangerous!!!! 🔥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🔥❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥

I am a firm believer in time and place but there comes a time when bad treatment creates frustration and people lash out. That's what Taraji did. She just got fed up of being treated horribly and moreso from one of her own. It wasn't me and I am highly disappointed in Oprah. There have been times when ALL of us were in similar situations and upon reflection realized we should've handled things differently. But as I like to say, that is how it was supposed to pan out. I am glad with the way ALL of this was revealed. As we say in the Caribbean, it is bad when other dogs bite you, you can deal with that. But when your own dog bites you, you feel that one to your soul and you've got to put a stop to it. Taraji just put a stop to it and I support her 10000%. Well done my dear. Oprah embarrassed Taraji publicly by treating her like that, so Oprah got what she gave......PUBLIC HUMILIATION AND EMBARRASSMENT. Ain't that fun when the rabbit got the gun huh!!

Thanks Fumi, I appreciate your analysis of "Gate Keepers". This perfect storm...gurl, you shed light on the significance of Oprah's decision to remake the Color Purple as out of touch. I am currently engaged in establishing an Elders Council in my small community cause we older visionary people do not have a good sense of the young folks wishes, dreams and their Value to community. You conveyed a wise use of energy for Oprah to micro manage the production knowing she was changing the culture. Oprah must demand alignment with her, not vice versa. We can't be lazy leaders. Oprah will grow significantly from this experience so thank you Fumi for your brilliance, value system, principles and love for the beautiful.

I wholeheartedly agree with that last part, however, I thought it was done beautifully. I say if they can do a remake of any movie and do it as good as this was done, why not? Our 18 year olds can vote, so if they don’t learn our history, by any means necessary, how can they ever become leaders? Every time I see djtRump on TV now, they’re making sure that stooopid ssa tim scott is standing right behind him grinning, when he knows how absolutely racist this clown is towards our people and anyone who doesn’t look wyte. How will our children ever learn, because they’re d@mn sure not learning true history about our people in our schools. Everything in the movie, except for the dancing and the successful business, I’ve personally seen in my own life. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and every movie isn’t for everyone, but I think the actors should have been treated as well as other actors……IF…..you know what I mean.😉

Secondly, I have learned in big and small businesses that the majority of the time, the people at the top of the pyramid do not care about anything unless it directly affects them.
Sadly, they seem to never care about the foundation workers at the bottom! The foundation is the most important part.

Fumi, I really believe people just weren't interested this movie. The studios misread the signs, nobody to blame, clearly, it's not a story the majority of people wanted to go to the theater to watch in 2023. The world has changed since the original movie came to the screen in 1985. I read Alice Walker's book, I saw the 1985 adaptation and what they included from the book in the movie in the 80's caused a stir and people flocked to theaters. It's a different world now.

Taraji P. should have reported her problems regarding the poor conditions and treatment to her team (which includes her agent, manager and/or attorney) and not to the producer (Oprah).
The protocol is for the talent/artist is supposed to report any compliant issues or grievances to their team and not to the producers or studio.
Instead, her legal team and/or agent is supposed to settle such matters, because that’s what they’re paid to do.
It’s clear that Taraji tried to handle it herself instead of letting her team do their job.
Taraji should have not returned to the set until her team and the producers had resolved all of the issues.

He is his own entity. It had to be done. There is never going to be a right time to bring up these issues. I will govas far as saying that Taraji spoke up exactly the right time, when n it has the most impact even though it was at a risk. Everyone understands money. If she hadn't and waited until the movie past and became a box office hit, the vicious cycle would have started again. Everything is out in the open and all eyes are now on the powers that be including Oprah. Oprah is a handler and that is why this falks into her lap and reflects poorly on her.

At the end of the day, the public does not really know what was going on behind the scenes with this production. The Monday morning quarterbacking is the easiest thing in the world to do. I am not the biggest Oprah fan but she appears to be the easiest one to dump on. It is not Oprah's job to micro-manage the actors contracts. That is what their management is for. Taraji has already acknowledged that she had to fire her management for poor performance. Yes, Oprah, because of her influence could have and apparently did, right some of the shortcomings during production but as much as we like to believe we know everything happening behind the scenes, we don't.

Same here. Yes, I left the theater in tears, however, they were happy tears. I absolutely loved it all the way through. The ending was a happy ending, just as the original was. I think more people should see it, and see it as it is and NOT comparing it with the first one. It’s funny how people complain about how there’s no good Black movies, because now they have so many choices. These actors worked hard for the little bit of money they were paid. There’s wyte actors who are millionaires today from doing waaaay less, and we all know why. They have the support of their people, they have sponsors, commercials, fan clubs etc. Anyway, it seems like a lot of y’all don’t know what a good movie really is, or how to support our Black actors who are out here for our Blactertainment. Great commentary, as usual Fumi!!! 😉

@@shirleyvanarsdalecrabtree2880 this is a good perspective! Something else that other cultures do is adaptation of classic movies and they win Oscar’s for it. I’m sure there will always be those who prefer the original movie and that’s okay. But if we could try viewing this movie as a reimagining like it was intended to be, it may grow on some people.

I did see the movie and I thought the performances were great. Celie came into her own and got out of a bad situation. However I didn’t think we needed another remake of this movie. We have many stories that need to be told and I think the resources should be spent on doing them.
