Lucky Penny Thoughts: This was a lot of fun to play. After the first video, we had to update it, so everyone can see how it is played. At the time, you could play along with the live show and solve puzzles as they were solving puzzles. You can also play it as a stand alone game. How cool was that!
Later!

I had this machine and used to play it along with the show. The letters would come up on the screen at the exact moment that Vanna would flip them over. In my business, I work with a lot of blind people, so I came up with the idea to use a Braille display instead of the LCD to allow a blind person to read the puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. The Braille cells would flip over to show the letters when Vanna flips them, so a blind person would be able to work on a partially-revealed puzzle by reading the Braille.
that is the single most charismatic vcr game instruction video i’ve seen, now i want this game, and i dont even own a vcr!
I had this back in the day. You where actually able to play along with the actual televised broadcast of the game show.
Cool!
@@LuckyPennyShop LPS Dave you think that's cool, MEGA Hanuman and MEGA/ PANCHAMUKI Ganesha are even cooler! Hanuman has punching gloves and Karate Kicks! But PANCHAMUKI Ganesha has 8 heads! (He's got Kataragama devi's genes!) He can use revolution to turn to the normal Ganesha we already know! Told you that's cool!
Oh wow, looks just like the TV we had when I was a kid, brings back memories of sitting on the floor watching cartoons...
Cool, I always have a vintage TV on hand for times like this :)
Kkkk
Anything vintage is cool... I can believe a VCR is vintage. Im starting to feel old...well awesome video lucky! Keep em coming
Puzzle number three which you skipped was I can't believe I ate the whole thing.
Wheel of Fortune is one of my all-time game shows.
Great video on the Wheel of Fortune game. That's cool on how the TV is pointing to the letter board when the red light is blinking. :D
This has a *VERY* strong nostalgic feel to it. This is one of those classic toys I used to love to play. Is there any way I can get this game again? I also love the vintage TV set you have as it also has quite a strong nostalgic feel to it. I want a time machine to take me back to those days again.
Yes, I have seen it on eBay. I have a few older TV's when I need that vintage vibe in a video!
Oh my god that TV... My dad had kept my grandmother's old TV that was just like this one (the buttons were a bit different though), and I used it when I was a kid before it finally kicked the bucket.
8:09 And that music LPS Dave is the music for MEGA Ganesh or Panchamuki ganesha or 8 - Headed Ganesh!
Oh LPS Dave I think you like Ganesh too! He started out as a boy then grew into an adult then got an elephant head! That's cool eh?
I remember this one game that was developed by Tiger Electronics back in 2004 called Wheel of Fortune Live Play, which was very similar to this. Though not officially released, some Live Play units do exist under the Parker Brothers brand, but they're truly a rare gem. As one who loves collecting all things Wheel of Fortune, I'm looking forward to get my hands on a unit someday, somehow, some way.
On the other hand, this 1988 game is far easier to get your hands on since it was officially released. In fact, in early 2012, I bought one of these off of Ebay along with the Volume 1 video tape. Note trying to play the VCR mode with a digital TV (such as an HDTV) is not possible. If you still have an old analog TV lying around somewhere that's still working, that's what you need if you want to play VCR mode.
I also heard word that taped episodes from 1988 work on this thing, even ones that GSN reran back in 2003 or so.
I have this game. and when I first got it. I played along on the TV and solved the puzzles before the contestant did.
I am glad you revisited this toy. I thought it looked like more fun than you had with it the first time. BTW I love vhs! I use my venerable old JVC at least weekly.
Cool, I had to redeem my last video. Adding the tapes was a bonus to the new video. I'm still a fan of VHS also!
I actually remember that puzzle. "I CAN'T BELIEVE I ATE THE WHOLE THING"
I love that I am watching a youtube video of a guy that all you ever see is his hands and in it he shows an old video of a lady who all you see is her hands. Well played LPS Dave.
Nice. Id love to get that in my collection.
You can find them on eBay.
7:56 That LPS Dave is the music for Mega Hanuman!
Oh LPS Dave are you a man of Hinduism? Does that mean you LOVE MEGA Hanuman!?
WIth this device, You could play along with the nighttime syndicated show maingame puzzles as the show was airing between 9/5/88-at least 9/1/90. Some said the device worked with shows from that era rerunning on GSN in the early 2000s.
Classic 80s stuff. I love it.
I wonder if it would work if you recorded wheel of fortune these days? Probably not.
I've played quite a few iterations of _Wheel_.
--Seen episodes of the game show
--The MS/DOS version on the old Hewlett/Packard
--Pressman's board game
--Tiger handheld (1996 edition--there's another edition, too)
--Hasbro Electronics' PC version
--The Facebook app
--The newer game on my smartphone
I've _never_ seen this before, though. Also, I saw the arcade version once at Haunted Trails, but never played it.
11:48 It's interesting that OFF has priority for protection rather than on. I think you would be more concerned about accidentally turning it on than off.
Thanks Dave for revisiting this video :) i love it so much.
You're welcome! It was fun getting it all set up and understanding how it works. We played it as a family :)

Will this game work with HDTVs, and Episodes that have recently aired?
No, it works with old TV's
What did you do when the instructions were playing?
Would the device work if the puzzle video was copied from a VHS to a computer file? That is we aim device at a computer screen... I'm also wondering how the device manages to pick up signals from the broadcast version; more importantly how does it know what letters are actually in play.
The signal just sends the puzzle to the game. It is not letting you play directly with the TV version. So once it gets the signal then you play the handheld version of the game. I'm not sure about converting the VHS to an MP4 and if it will do the same thing.
i like older tvs becuase they arnt as bad for your eyes and there smaller usually
Can you show us the other tape?
How does the device receive a signal from the television ? That seems pretty far-fetched even in today's time period.
Kewl
can you try jaw braker in the cotten candy machine
Does the signal only transmit while using an old TV or will a modern one work as well?
For Classic Mode, does it work with the most recent season (Season 36)?
Nope. Only worked for a couple seasons 30 years ago.
Can we find that in a store
coooooooooooooooooooool
Do you happen to have the model number for this TV? Thanks
Can you do a easy bake oven

Can you explain, how exactly game scans letters from TV? I mean, are the words were already written in game's memory, so game can load phrase by comparing scanned mask from TV, or is it really somehow scans letters directly from TV?
Here is what it says in the booklet. "For optimal reception of the invisible signal from the TV show. Also in the troubleshooting section "You are watching the daytime TV show which is not encoded with invisible signals." and then "Occasionally, due to technical difficulties, the evening TV show may not be broadcast with encoding"
So it looks like the show is sending the signal to the unit.
It works using the same principle as an infrared remote. CRT's emit infrared light. The broadcast had the puzzle encoded, and timing when Vanna flipped letters.
