A full Disgaea 1 Guide video in 2023? hellyeah!!! Myself are a big Disgaea series fan but for Disgaea 1 i just don't really know much about it bc the gameplay are kinda tedious compare to future titles so i only beat the story tho. But 1's story i think it still the best in the series and i absolutely love it,laharl,Etna and Flonne always be my main force in the future titles's post game. I bought this game a few years back but never got too far into it. Decided to start a new file after watching this video and so far am 20 hours in. I chose to follow someone's run as I remembered my first attempt feeling really slow, and I gotta say. Captures are overpowered in D1. In like 15 captures, you can go from having your strongest character being level 40, to capturing a level 9999. The downside with captures is that you don't really build a team that you'll remember. The upside however, is that you don't have to grind much unless you're going for 100%.
Thanks for posting this! I may be one year late but this guide has been immensely helpful in explaining this game's systems to a newcomer like me. Great video!
not technically somebody this video is for as i already knew all this (except the thing about a bonus in stats for having stat innocents in every slot i didn't know that one) but i rly enjoy listening to people talking about games i like so i enjoyed a lot :3 would watch the exact same video again on the other games LOL
And people saying that Warframe have too much grind. Haha, ladies and gentlemen we're have here something more, something wonderful, something beautiful - Disgaea - Grind incarnate
we need something like this for all the games, especially 4, seriously, there is practically no beginner information for that one. it amazes me how games like Monster Hunter have a million guides dedicated to them (which I agree are needed they are very complicated and the games themselves don't explain everything well) but barely anyone has any concrete guide for newbies to really wrap their head around
I love this. There are very few detailed guides in English for these games and I needed a refresher so this is perfect! I finished Disgaea 1 Complete and most of the other games 100% but never D1PC, and your video even gave me some new information. 👍
Something that's really cool that i learned to do ia Dump as much stat effects on thieves' guns, so that they have more uses than to just steal. i mainly use this with confusion against mages.
Reaching the latter stages of disgaea 1 , the gameplay loop is so very good, but I crave the changes I see in the latter games Sidenote, I am very disappointed in the fact they didn't make a disgaea d2 pc port, id buy that in a heartbeat if they could just make it available
Thank you so much for this, needed reminding of so much, decided to pick the king of all grinds up again after a few years break. Litterally the only thing I dont think you mentioned is lift stacking to get to residents quickly before move limit is high enough. Also the clip of you on endless cold stacking enemies on the diagonal... I never knew that was a thing!, thats got to save a couple of minutes each pass. Again thankyou, great great guide.
Cave of ordeals 3, no matter what class levels or class the stats and skills (range only) always stay 3 tiles (further behind for safety) behind the spawn portal 12:36 away from these Galactic demons , items like BOWS should have innocent as AMNESIA (negate usages of skills) and or GANGSTER (reduces enemy stats points) these attributes are not 100% on hit, it also applies to other weapon items if you have allot of SENTRIES & PHYSICIANS on armory items for CQC but then again MARKSMAN & COACH is a must have. The best options are to either : [a] equip the gears from your buffed character(s) to your weaker characters if you need to level up. [b] replaced the innocences from your main damage dealers gear to your gears (depends of the item & levels) if you're leveling up weapon masteries These demons never moves unless you're confronting them 1 tile at the frontal position.
It's a shame they removed the ability to get multiple Hyper Drives from the more recent releases of D1. On the older versions (I believe PS2, PSP and DS all allowed it) you could get multiple Hyperdrives so the problem of not being able to go straight to the skip gate was solved by having two units with Hyperdrives warp next to the skip gate then one throw the other in.
I feel like it should be noted that you don't have to do all of this, or at least not all the way. For instance, I was able to do basically everything with only a powerleveled Laharl. Reincarnated (transmigrated) only once from 9999 with his sword mastery at around 60-70. Didn't bother with skill levels at all either. The only thing I did go out of my way for was double killing item generals/kings/gods to squeeze out some extra stats on a Yoshitsuna and made sure to get the 30% rarity bonus. That was enough to get the 10 million damage achievement/trophy. Cue my surprise when I even accidentally beat a 20* Prinny Baal (I forgot to lower the enemy strength before steal farming). Just had to make sure to buff Laharl with braveheart and stalled with lifts. Granted, I guess there still was the *20 Etna Mode Prinny Baal fight but, eh, I don't really care about extreme self challenges like that. Regardless, this is a fine enough guide video. There are a couple small details I didn't notice brought up, or just missed the mentioning of, that could help (like the aforementioned double killing of item bosses or all the throwing tech) but that's all super specialized info that isn't entirely necessary. Just having all the main stuff in a single video explained clearly is much appreciated.
I see you’re going through the series as a whole which is what I’m doing (and how I found your D3 vid in the first place). Really killer quality on your vids by the way. I was a sophomore when Disgaea 1 came out, and it still remains my favorite. I’m skipping one for now because I’ve owned and beaten it on every release, except for PC, which I’ll eventually play through. I’m starting with 2, which I’ve owned on 3 separate platforms, but never played much of because I absolutely hate Adel’s design with the giant tie. We’re talking two chapters in at most. I did obviously get distracted trying out D3 on the steam deck, which is thankfully how I found your channel. With 100% 1-5, what has been your favorite, and have you played Disgaea D2? 1 is my favorite even without the cheat shop (iOS thankfully had it), then 4 which is the only game I think that competes with D1 in terms of characters. Disgaea 5 has absolutely awful characters and story to the point that after chapter 3 or so I skipped every cutscene, but is untouchable from a gameplay standpoint. I bought D6 day one on switch but unfortunately it’s awful. D7 is proving to be a return to form, although still lacking.
Personally I got lucky with +150% ATK geo in an item world of R39 sword. Didn't even get Yoshitsuna. Will certainly be awaiting potential Disgaea 2 video since I have only 9 achievements there and post game seems more daunting.

Thanks for this guide, I just recently bought it in Steam and I have been playing it a lot, I always have hear about how you can break the game with the leveling. Saddly the game have some graphics flaws, the 2D characters are always on top of the background even when there is a column or an object and you pass behind it, your character is always on top of all background elements, indeed all the 2D elements are always on top making hard to iddentify what things are near and what other things are far, is annoying in levels where there are things hide behind walls or buildings, well, too late to get a refound but the game is pretty fun and I really want to continue playing it, I would like to know if there is a way to fix this graphical issue.
I’m not sure what you mean about the flaws in the graphics tbh. I do know that determining exactly where a unit is can be a pain sometimes due to the isometric layout, if that’s what you mean. like a lot of times a unit can look pretty close but then turning the camera makes you see that it’s actually really far away. unfortunately, there’s not really a fix to that, it’s just something you have to deal with. the game really is great, and I hope you enjoy your time with it despite the hangups!
Hey I just started this game not to long ago. I was wondering if using the bonus gauge in the item world is a good way of leveling low level characters. I feel like 5-3 takes too long, and doesn't give much xp for the time it takes. Also, should I bother transmigrating main characters ?
