    Floyd is Einstein of boxing. People don’t realize you can be a scholar in anything you choose & your choice doesn’t have to be school system related.

      It's true but it's very rare when the mind can will the body to do exactly what it's supposed to do. People can have the knowledge and know what to do but if ur not in peak shape mentally and physically it doesn't matter what u know.

      @theanimerapper6351 I boxed from 9 to 24. Met a few guys that were very good and could have absolutely been a professional. For one reason or another like bad choices, they just don't make it to the top. One guy in particular was literally on his way and committed armed robbery, and he went to prison for 8 years. I myself had to stop because of a cancer diagnosis that almost killed me. Cancer treatments mess ur body up. Then even if u make to pro, there's no guarantees of anything. Even if u are really good. If u don't know anybody in the business or have a family that cares as much as u do like a father to help when there's 0 money coming in its also very hard.

    Notice how Floyd doubles the left hook and pivots, reminiscent of his tactics in the Gatti fight. He effectively catches hooks to the body and counters with the uppercut, as he famously did against Maidana. Watch how he skillfully lands the right hand and seamlessly rolls under, executing the pull counter. It's quite funny when people dismiss this type of padwork as useless, you can clearly see some of his arsenal that he uses in actual fights being showcased in this clip.

    This clearly is not a video of the empty Golden Gloves Gym back in 95. The fancy padwork did not exist back then. While I was doing my workout there right before Roger fought Tszu I was doing my extreme bag work and Roger pulled up a chair and watched my 30 minute routine. He said " damn man I have never seen a guy throw that many punches in my life, great stuff. I always felt Roger was coming up with an idea to change his workouts for the future, he did. Last visit he was sparring and well lets just say he yelled from the ring " Hey you Scarface" he wanted to sparr with me. anyways it did not happen that day. Jeff was there he would remember.
    Still do the same work out from back then even though I am 56. Think I did influence the Maywether group to change the style of padwork that never existed before.

    This is the stuff Adrien Broner and a LOT OF OTHER FIGHTERS today should be looking at, NOT the end result, the beginning. Floyd Mayweather built a brand. He didn't depend on his athleticism, god given talent, reflexes or speed. He worked out three times a day, 2 hours each time and only dropped it to twice after his father insisted in his last six fights. Hard work without the mentioned gifts beats someone lazy with those gifts.
    Some of these fighters today think that by staying undefeated, not putting in the work and depending just on athleticism that this is the key to what Floyd did, ignoring the ENTIRE journey he made to get to the top. Mayweather himself said he was finished as a prime fighter after the Sharba Mitchell fight and was only 100% in two fights, Diego Corrales and Arturo Gatti. That he evolved into Money Mayweather was a NECESSITY due to those factors. If guys want to get to the "Money" phase, they have to make all the sacrifices during the "Pretty Boy" phase.

    • @Only1Kizz
      @Only1Kizz Рік тому +1

      I mean Floyd was still naturally and athletic, do you think that played a role in his success?

    • @shughl1
      @shughl1 Рік тому +2

      @@Only1Kizz Yes, absolutely. Floyd came from a boxing dynasty. His father had a competitive fight with Sugar Ray Leonard and is naturally athletic, as was his uncle Roger, who was a titlist.
      But in addition to that, Floyd was a work horse. Working out three times a day, 2hrs at a time really established that Floyd was not preparing so much for a "person" as for the event of fighting.
      He is one of the few fighters that went into fights with a general plan but made self adjustments within the fight that might contradict the corner but were actually the right call.
      Look at what his father told him in the Pacman fight and Floyd said "yes", but knowing it wouldn't work, did not implement it.
      There were men, such as Pacquaio, Corley who might have been more naturally athletic than Floyd or bigger punchers, bigger in weight but Floyd worked harder.
      Alex Ariza said upon watching Floyd train, "I see now why he's where he is, there's no way we could have beat him. He boxes gladiator rounds, trains twice a day hard, sometimes three. There's no beating that work ethic" and he was in camp for the first Maidana fight.
      Floyd said in the Canelo all access: "I'm not the biggest, the fastest, the strongest but I am the smartest." That work ethic and IQ is why a smallish WW like Mayweather was able to compete at the highest level for so long.
      That's why it dismays me when I see so many fighters today trying to emulate the "Money" Mayweather phase, nor realising the adaptations, injuries, sacrifices and dedication that went into that necessity from wars during the "Pretty Boy" phase, which was literally the time he was BUILDING his brand.
      26 of his 27 TKO/KOs all happened at the lower weights, as he was making his way through the championship levels. So did most of his injuries, except the hand one in the Guerrero fight, which he sustained when going against his better judgement tried to go for a KO.

If u watched Floyd do padwork with people he doesnt know that well it just looks like regular padwork. Whenever ive tried to work this same pattern with someone new it takes them a long time to get it somewhat down. This came from Floyd and his Uncle training together for years.

      I agree. I understand the criticisms too, and those criticisms have merit. But Floyd dominated his sport using a rules set with a long history. Not only was he never even close to losing, in his entire career he was only knocked down once, and it was actually a slip. 50 fights against the best in the world over two decades in a bunch of weight classes, fighting longer than most fighters and this man was never knocked down. If you really look hard at his career, you would be pressed to find rounds that he lost, much less a fight

      For you maybe I loved every minute of every round watching Floyd Watched all 50 fights + alot of his amateur fights + went back & have watched alot of his pro fight over a few times the man was a spectacular fighter
      I love the sport with a passion though
