That said, yes, gear is all over BJJ even down to the local competitions, if there's money on the line and testing is relaxed or nonexistent gear will be around. I love how often Lex just tosses out bomb questions and then shakes his head as he realizes how loaded everything he's discussing is. Kudos to these guys for answering honestly, sincerely and with good humor. PED usage remains an important issue to shed light on.
    As far as the topic - I weightlift and have considered PED's, but decided against it. But my take is it should be a choice made available via informed consent and under the management of healthcare professional. Yes, it absolutely is a tradeoff with very real health risks, but so much in life is. Look at the risks Alex Honnold takes every time he free climbs, and yet (generally) people admire him/don't call him stupid or reckless. There is mounting evidence that very long-distance running, like regularly doing marathons, has serious cardiovascular risks (although more research is needed to nail down how much) and there's no outrage there that I know of. There are issues surrounding PED's with peer pressure, body dysmorphia and so on, but that's hardly unique to using gear or sports and is more of a "general societal attitude to mental health and image" problem. In the end, I feel that informed consent makes taking gear allowable, if not necessarily admirable. Transparency helps keep people on the same playing field in a sport, and destigmatizing use will likely lead to better education and healthcare support.

    • @jacobkelley2632
      @jacobkelley2632 9 місяців тому +1

      People also have to realize the health risks are usually not too high for someone on just a TRT dose or doubled like a normal beginner cycle the rewards In my opinion far out weigh the risk. You see professional body builders doing 10-20x the dose of TRT, stacked with a bunch of other steroids. On top of that they’re also doing HGH and sometimes insulin and a long list of other substances along with it. That’s when it’s very dangerous and where the stigma comes from.

      like if someone is a lot stronger than me but literally doesnt know shit about grappling its fairly easy to catch him with something because he just doesnt know shit and runs into any submission but if he knows just a little bit about how to keep his arms to himself and how not to get pinned even on a beginners level its already sooo much harder to keep him under control.

      Physique can be misleading. Everyone respond differently to PEDs. When I am on (i only use test and deca, one cycle i used equipoise and i ended it early because it really didnt agree with me and messed up my hormones), my physique doesn't change a whole lot, but my physical strength is like a totally different person. Also depends which PED the athlete is taking. Halotestin is the most potent strength boosting PED but does almost nothing for physique. Trenbelone is #2 for strength increase but also makes drastic improvements to physique and kills your cardio. Many different factors to consider, but you definitely can't tell who is on and who isn't unless you're talking about extremely outliers- like for example bodybuilder Jay Cutler was undeniably on steroids.

      @@nile7999 its also genetics, regardless of epigenetics, there will be genetic factors and mutations that matter... We see this clearly in cigarette smokers.. its why some people never get lung cancer while others do, which shows how anecdotes can be misleading (my grana smoke for 90 years blah blah blah)
      You can strain your immune system and genetic factors can break down, or they can compensate where another sees failure..
      It is very hard to tell, but generally it takes alot of time to develop into a body that could be confused easily with a roider..
      It really is a witch hunt, but one that we can generalize at least..
      Hell genetics can even make you roid out naturally, of course there are trade offs and most people who suffer from hyper hormonal conditions have complications..
      I think the witch hunt should be done in a concise and emotionless way,
      None of this emotional yelling and screaming or strongly *felt* stuff about how you "know people are on steroids".

Just like how in Nevada for MMA, you can knee a grounded opponent or whatever the rule is but in other places you're not allowed. If course. They all plan their stacks and routines so they are clean when they have to be . The rest of the time they are going as hard as possible and using every edge they can.
    But 100% all pro athletes coming out of russias are using the most. Every athlete that comes out of Russia is stage sponsored . This is 100% known, that’s one of the reasons why Russia isn’t in the olympics anymore

      Take just testing in UFC, you have Jiří Procházka that was tested 51 time just in 2022, how many times did Jon Jones get tested?
      Didn’t Justin Gatlin get caught twice for steroids? What about Lens? But noooo Russian athletes are all on juice and American aren’t 🤣🤣🤣.
