Lyle mixes country, blues, jazz, swing and big band. He’s incredibly talented and very funny. Great performer. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him live twice and meeting him. Nice guy too. Very humble.
I saw him live on New Year's Eve, ten years back(?)and was so impressed by him. He sings country, blues, and folk music, and is an historian of folk music history. He captivates live
They got it right below. Lyle is considered Texas Swing. Some of his early stuff was a little more country. He made it big when I was a younger man, and I have always enjoyed his soothing voice and easy demeanor. If you like some of the old-style county music we have here in the states, may I suggest Dwight Yoakam or Randy Travis or some Alan Jackson. Just for fun, to look up Dwight Yoakam guitars and Cadillacs .
This is a style of music called Western Swing. It grew out of big band sounds in the 1930's and 1940's, and really is the grandfather of country music. There are still a few bands that play this style. If you like this, look to a group called Asleep at the Wheel. Another group is Riders in the Sky. If you want to see what the original Western Swing was like, look up Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. And yes, I'm from Texas and we really feel that way. :)

Saw him with Leo Leo Kottke few months back. An incredible artist!!
Lyle is just too cool for school!
I recommend any Lyle Lovett you can wrap your ears around.
I would put him under the category of Texas Swing.

Ernest Tubb, Jimmy Rogers, even some of George Strait borrows this style.
Keep the video's coming!! Love Lyle.
As always a Great reaction
Loved this as a Native Texan
Roadhouse music.
The song had more Texas Swing than country imho.
BTW, he was married to Julia Roberts for a short time.....her loss
