Sam Worthington Talks 'Avatar: The Way of Water', Underwater Acting, and Sigourney Weaver

- In the 13 years between installments in the “Avatar” franchise, Sam Worthington got married and had three sons. Nearly everything, he says, revolves around them, even the decision to relocate from Australia to New York City, where stricter laws about paparazzi mean he can better protect his children’s privacy. “Avatar: The Way of Water” mirrors some of the shifts in Worthington’s own life. Jake Sully, the improbable savior of a group of extraterrestrials known as the Na’vi, has also settled down and had children. We catch up with Sam Worthington to discuss all things "Avatar".

He’s so underrated
I agree I feel he doesn't get enough credit.
He's not terrible, but it's clear his acting is the worst out of all the cast in both avatars
@@sheltondmello8031 i disagree. I rewatched the first one and I can see that he’s performance is nothing to rave about really in the first one but I think he did a damn fine job with the story they went with. But after seeing the second one for a second time yesterday, I really thought he was on point! His performance stood out in the last act the most to me. I really thought he was incredible though. Zoe Saldana is no slouch too and the kid who played Lo’ak was outstanding to say the least I thought. They are packed full of talent though
@@sheltondmello8031 absolutely disagree. why else would james cameron choose sam worthington you wouldn't want a bad actor playing your films no? Sam is incredible at acting all you've seen from sam is avatar and assume he's a bad actor? All cast members of avatar act well.
As someone who has rewatched 1 and 2 many times, I strongly disagree. He played his character really really well ever since the beginning. Imagine doing what he do. He acts on a plain studio relying only on his imagination and visualization. That's not an easy task.
This movie is beyond what I imagined. So so so epic !
Watched it yet
I saw it and hoped to be better story wise is very poorly made. In terms of visuals cgi it's of course the highlight. I love the new human tech and fight escenes. But I expected they made it at least as good as the first one or try something more new.
Cameron and his casting directors have the magic touch in putting together amazing talent: Ed and Mary, Leo and Kate, Sam and Zoe, Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis, etc. And supporting cast like Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton, Stephan Lang, etc
Honestly, I think Sam Worthington is a great actor! Really liked his performance in the first film and his performance in the Way of Water as a protective father and husband was really well done!
As a movie goer, as someone who LOVES sci-fi adventures and action movies, this movie in my 25 years of life CHANGED ME. It is just straight beautiful the actors EVERY SINGLE ONE deserves a Oscar. Pure cinema.
Definitely the best!
Jake is my favorite charecter on the movie. It a masterpiace
This whole movie was like watching a magic trick unfold before your very eyes. Was the story simple? Yeah. But sometimes that's all you need and all you want. Movies like this don't get made very often and serve to remind you why you go to cinema.
Incredible and wonderfully explained by Sam
Agreed. He seems really passionate about it.
One of my favourite actors portraying one of my favourite protagonist's in one of my favourite films of all time, I'm excited for Saturday, first time ever watching a movie in IMAX 3D and its Avatar 2 😁
Saw it last night. Don't bring too much expectations but my god, this was probably the best cinematic experience of my life. And that is an understatement
Awesome!! 🙌🙌
What did you think?
@jeevangopal482 hard to describe it in one word, phenomenal 👏
Seen this movie an hour ago! Way better than the first one! So epic, so dazzling and so majestic! 9/10 for me, can't wait for the sequel! Also, try see it in 3D if you can!
What does it feel like to watch a movie in 3D? Is it distracting or nauseating? (Please do not reply with any spoilers.)
@@gaila.9852 I just watched it yesterday for me I think it ruined it. When I took it off for some parts the picture was more vibrant and there were really only some parts which utilizes the 3D aspect.
@@nifailsoudmand2988 Hard disagree. Most of the movie has at least one major element in each shot which is 3D to portray depth between foreground and background. It's not trying to pop out of the screen as a gimmick. Vibrancy loss in some parts is a fair criticism, but many people still enjoy 3D. 2D or 3D, I think it's worth either way.
@@alexlei2235 You are right probably my cinema was not so good on the 3D side. I still very much loved the movie and yes the 3D had its moment but i will definitely would wanna see it again normally.
@@alexlei2235 And thank you for replying kindly and not being hostile.
Such a talented man.
@@awonddy what have you done?? Nothing but talk shit on the internet....get a life buddy.
This video came out while I was in the cinema watching Avatar 2. It's good!
He’s remained so Aussie and unaffected it’s like he could of stepped straight off a Sydney building site 😂
I could of watched another hour of this film a visually groundbreaking masterpiece with an incredible cast 👏🏼👏🏼
Avatar 2 s set to become the highest grossing movie ever in the history of cinemas👌👌💓💓👏👏👍🙏
nah
Me wishing avatar movies to be at least 7 hours long from now on 😌😍😍🤞🏽
I'm thankful he act as Jake 🥰 and same to Zoe 🧡
He was born for this movie👌
The best actor of the year n the decades👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Oscars awards👌👌👌👌👌💓👍
I most like him of all the hollywood actors. absolutely Sam is pretty important to me
So excited for the younger actors
The one called Spider went to a showing of Avatar 2 at my local theater and took photos and I missed it. 😭
@@TheProphegy thats sooo cool
for a bunch of new comers those kids acted pretty damn well
Great actor and Human.
We Love You Sam! ❤️
I've forgotten how charming Sam is besides talented and handsome of course.
He gave a terrific performance in a Film called 'The Shack'. Highly recommend it!
I love how he explained everything. I could listen to him for hours
I love the Avatar films and I will support them for as long as people like this are still passionate about making them and they get the results as they have so far…
'Zoe's like this crazy sister, who I just happen to do love scenes with.'
I'M DEAD 🤣
He may be known for Avatar, but I like him more for his role as Alex Mason in Black Ops. I also read that in the years before auditioning for Avatar, he was living in his car that he bought after selling most of his possessions. Now that is an example to follow!
Just been to watch this with the kids, WOW it did not disappoint so majestic even shed a tear or 3! Absolutely fantastic Thinking of going back to watch in 3D
See it in HFR too
I’ve just watched in 3D IMAX .. won’t regret it !
"... went down to the Mariana Trench as u do on ur weekends" LMFAO SAM IS A CRACKUP 🤣
Underrated joke 🤣
@@missmist97 FR I died lmaoo
Avatar magic in cinemas💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
Rip every box office records💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
MCU need to give this guy a meaty role!
not everything has to revolve around the MCU.
NO
@@HeyRezZ
Cameron just proved that lol
The magician Cameron always deliver gold💓💓👌👌👏👏👍🙏⭐️⭐️
For Sam Avatar the way of water is like a Time travel🤣
can't wait to see more behind the scenes from the new movie
Sam seems cool
I love this guy! He's my favorite actor now!
I can't wait for Avatar 3!!! Maybe we'll find out who Ketee's (?) father is!
his smile is so cute
My childhood hero!
Sam Worthington is very underrated and hard to believe he was almost Dracula back when Dracula Untold was called Dracula Year Zero, yet that didn't happen. When Universal was doing The Mummy for The Dark Universe, they should've gone for him as Nick Morton instead of Tom Cruise for The Mummy because Sam Worthington wouldn't have made it into a trainwreck like that Circus Midget Tom Cruise did.
as an aussie, i love sam, but don't disrespect tom like that, bro made top gun: maverick which is a far superior movie compared to avatar 2
SAM is better in 3D...Water is what he was built for....As a lifeguard trainer and swim coach, the 3D scenes brought me back to open water ocean swimming/free-diving...
Well done, cast and crew...no sequel needed...
Sam is so adorableeeee!
Am I the only one who thinks he would have made an awesome Batman/Bruce Wayne?
james cameron would go down in history for making actors don't need to work again afterwards
My Jake
Magical!
This is are family 💙
Can anyone tell me the title of the BGM used in this video?
going to see this
1:12 HAHAHAH!!!
James Cameron is a living legend.
I love Sam Worthington
This movie was amazing better then the part 1
Still can't tell me what the numbers mean tho
I am so glad he got this role compared to Matt Damon. Cant imagine anyone else
THE NUMBERS MASON, WHAT DO THEY MEAN?
Sam Worthington is my teenage hero
✨ Turok Makto ✨
So Stephen Lang(Quaritch) is in 4? Interesting.
He has such a great screen presence...he could've been the perfect Mad Max
The numbers Mason ! What do they mean ?
Hopefully Sam makes a comeback as Mason in the next Treyarch game
Крепкий джин
i wonder how activision convinced sam to play alex mason in bo1 and bo2
The last bit he was talking about Titan 😂 it really was awful 😅😅
I was thinking of the same thing lol. It was pretty bad unfortunately.
Overwhelmingly astonishing cinematic experience
Grace is alive??
That Guy Looks Like Ben Affleck To Chris Pratt!
Lmao i know EXACTLY what movie he was talking about at the end. The Titan was another movie where he was a soldier turned alien (weird), and it didn't look great.... the ending was also weird as hell lol. I still enjoyed his presence in that ugly movie though
I can't believe Sam and Zoe are not together in real life... 🙆♀️
his voice 🤤
Stephen Lang in 4? He definitely switching sides 🤔
To me. He’s always Alex Mason from call of duty black ops
BOYFRIEND…
No because I’m depressed they killed neteyam
no i'm sorry, Sigourney doesn't have the essense of a child in this movie.
you can both see and hear clearly that it's her.
it unfortunately doesn't make sense at all.
It makes some sense since they make it clear that she's not an ordinary child. So perhaps she wouldn't have a normal voice, given she is a child of Eywa and Grace.
Is the disaster movie he’s talking about The Titan on Netflix? Cause that movie was horrifying
Mason!
RIP Marvel
Don't like the character that got killed off. 6\10. First one was better but still 10\10 visuals. Incredible cgi.
The script in the second was weak ngl - there were some lines when I was cringing hard - definitely more about the visuals
this sequel is so strange.
it's the exact same movie as the first one, only now Jake ands Neytiri are basically abandoned and it's all about the children.
the action feels exactly the same as in the first movie and overall it's way less impressive than the first movie.
me and dwane joshoins TOOK over 100 % snwoanbdring .... Remember The Name (Official Video) - Fort Minor no its 100 % swane jsonon ZERO ME
How did he ever get this part? He is a basic off brand vanilla actor. can someone please show me a movie that he isn’t just basic as crap in? Please? Does it exist? Also, if the guy doesn’t walk, like if he doesn’t like learn how to walk in the film or they fix his back or some shit… like you know they can build remote control aliens but they can’t fix dudes back? all right…yeah OK that makes sense but I digress, if he doesn’t walk in the movie why didn’t you use the opportunity to hire an actor with disabilities? why are you going to write in a part for an actor with disabilities and then hire an actor that does not have disabilities that shit is mad weak dude.
@Curing Boredom I’m not saying he’s absolute garbage he is fine but like he’s not good, and why didn’t they hire somebody with disabilities like those fools are trying to get jobs and they need them but I guess if they’re going to have the actors run around in motion capture suits, it’s not feasible, but having actors running around in motion, capture suits takes jobs away from stunt people who need to work also so I mean, it’s kind of fucked either way.
Well, fuck, aren't you knowledgeable... Take this disabled actor who ought to run in mocap suit around the set and call that mad weak
It says multiple times that they can fix his back but he just doesnt have the money for it. They needed somebody who could walk for the mo-cap scenes which is most of the movie. If they casted a disabled person for the role then they would have had to have somebody else for the mo-cap scenes.
Some fun life you got there, bud.
