I love the quote by Hippolytus - it reminded me of something I read from Buffie Johnson's book, "Lady of the Beasts - The Goddess and Her Sacred Animals", which I wanted to share with all who love the Goddess and the truth ~ "The Goddess of Death and Rebirth The other side of the Goddess who gives life is the Goddess who takes it away, the Mother of Death....Riannon, a manifestation of the earlier Aphrodite, embodies death, life and rebirth. Aphrodite and Persephone together represent the Kore, the maiden form of Demeter, the earth, with one figure passing easily into the other. In a fragment of an epic poem, probably by Parmenides, the poet speaks of the lesser mysteries of Persephone in Hades below. The path that leads to Persephone is wide, and well-trodden by the dying. Beneath it another track, rough and unused, "hallowed, bemired, yet best" leads to Aphrodite's "lovely grove". This indicates Aphrodite's connection with the Underworld and the dark side of love, which is death. Like the bird goddess from whom she is descended (Lilith*) Aphrodite became Queen of the Underworld. At Delphi, the deity is known as Queen of the Tombs. Persephone of the Underworld can appear in the guise of Aphrodite: Aphrodite of the Heavens, remembered as the Goddess of the Dawn, in her turn is Persephone. Thus there are two Aphrodites: one of the heavens, where she reigns as the evening and morning star, and one of the underworld, where she has been sent against her will. Originally the deity of rebirth, Aphrodite was reduced in classical times to the divinity of love alone, a role that implies a view of regeneration that would have struck the Bird Goddesses' worshipers as sacrilegious." * My add
WOAHHH !!! I have read about persephone represented as kore in many literary works, but this is the first time I am hearing about aphrodite. This is such an interesting take. And gives so much more depth and power to aphrodite's character rather than reducing her to goddess of love ( or the infamous Ares's mistress )
@@anya-yn8qf The first time I read it, I was also literally blown away. What I knew to be true was finally vindicated and all of the pieces of the puzzle fell into place in what seemed like a few minutes - I really recommend the book, it's excellent. It also reveals how we have been tricked by certain patriarchal elements into believing that the Goddess is somehow a patroness of warfare. For example, Athena was changed over almost completely by the Achaean playwright Euripedes, who was coincidentally involved in the Trojan War. In the play, the Oresteia, Athena is actually made out to be in favour of matricide, always on the side of men. A classic example of how religion has been tampEred with by the warrior cultures of the world. As we all know full well though, the Divine Feminine has multiple aspects and is the Genatrix of the Universe, the Maiden, Mother, Crone, Empress and Spirit of us all :) BB
@@zeph6439 I'll definitely read it! This is sooo interesting. Maybe I'll make a community post later once i read so that all fellow greek myth lovers here in the channel can give it a read. And ofc I'll credit you for sharing that with us ❤
@@witchd5618 her orgin actually predates greek mythology but since she is in the greek pantheon we refer to her as such, but when people refer to "child of the gods" they refer to demigods which was popularized by the PJO books. persephone didnt have any demigod children, in the PJO books or in the orphic myths or in regular mythology. she did have children that were gods but since we're talking demigods we wont count melionë, zagreus/dionysus, and erinyes
