I literally had this in mind when building my second 3rd gen got a five speed was just gonna put lockers on it all of a sudden I’m over 5000 in parts front bumper back bumper lift kit full skid plates. Lockers. Rims and new tires
Dont be scared just check the condition of you radiator. If the outside looks black like new plastics look then ur ok, but if it has a greenish brownish color replace it and ull be good
To engage the center diff lock you need to put it in 4WD and you will see the four green lights come on representing the four wheels. Then you press the button to the lower left of the steering wheel and you will see the orange light come on in the center of the four green lights. If the center diff is locked then the orange light goes solid orange, after flashing for a few minutes. To get the diff lock to engage I stop the truck completely and usually put it in neutral. If it doesn't come on right away then I put it in drive and very slowly roll forward. Then put it in neutral again, then maybe drive again, until it engages. It definitely can be finicky sometimes, though usually it snaps on pretty quickly. The pins have to align just right for it to snap on. 90% of the time when I'm offroad I don't have it on, and then if I'm coming up on a tricky section then I'll make sure I engage it well before I reach the bad part, while I'm still on easy level terrain. Good luck!
3rd gen 😍💪🏻👍🏼 Happy trails! I’m looking to add a 2002 SR5 4x4 to my 2018 TRD Off-Road Premium. Any specific problems I should look out for before I sign the check? Thank you!
I had them replaced about 6 months ago, but to be honest they weren't in too bad shape. Everyone talks about how the lower ball joint are a fault point on the 4Runner, but the truth is that if you don't put a big lift on the front suspension that puts the control arms at unnatural angles, and if you don't put spacers and big tires on it that put torque on it that it's not designed for, then the ball joints handle stock suspension and tires just fine.
@@mountainstoseaoverland9855 Agree but they are a part that needs to be maintenance I want to see everyone 120 K they’ll make it up to 350k but after that you’re just gambling
That's awesome man! I wish my '99 had 4wd and locking center diff! At the time of buying, I didn't think it was something I would use often enough to be justifiable. Since I bought my 4runner i've come to realize that a stock third gen with 4wd and locking diffs is much more capable than I thought. That's so cool!
Yeah I've been really surprised at what it has been able to handle, though I know there are some situations where a front and dif lock would be nice too. At some point it would be nice to put ARB air lockers on it, but that's a project for down the road.
I totally agree. People ask me when I am going to get steel bumpers and I remind them that the bumpers are already steel. Those things are solid as anything as is and I agree the lines are great. However I do plan to upgrade down the road in order to improve approach and departure angles and be able to add a winch.
Did you need wheel spacers after doing the tundra brake caliper upgrade? I'm thinking of doing that upgrade to my 02 4runner only if it clears the stock wheels
I did not. I have the 16 inch wheels, and with a tiny bit of trimming on the guard that fits around the caliper the Tundra disks and calipers fit with no rubbing.
sweet ride man! i have a 99 Runner. i need a drawer system in mine. Im currently doing a re gear and front locker install on my channel if your interested in that. thanks for the walk round.
I like how your are keeping the Runner pretty basic and not spending $1000's of dollars on stuff you probably don't need. I have a 5th Gen that I am wanting to do some upgrades, but not wanting to spend $2k on a bumper. Not having a lift on yours makes me think twice about getting one. Not really sure I would need it anyway. Although, I have a Baja rack, I would like a rear mounted spare Good Video! Thanks for posting it! Oh, and what is this Cape Lookout Permit that was mentioned? sounds like someplace I need to go....
Cape Lookout is an island on the south end of the NC Outer Banks that we head to every spring and fall. Amazing, wild, and always a great time. I have a video on it on my channel right here: ua-cam.com/video/vyUumTUZ7is/v-deo.html
Oh and thanks for the kind words about the truck. I have been really happy with how much the truck is capable of without a lift, and am taking it slow with the build. The more trips I do the better idea I get of what exactly is needed to make it work for me.

Great setup. Simple and useful! Thanks for sharing bro.
Great build on your rig. I like your Baja rack. I don’t see that they have a flat long rack for 3rd gen? Where did you buy it?
I have 2000 4runner automatic and have no idea what you mean by strawberry milkshake. I'm scared.

Great video and Adventure. What kind of Baja rack interested getting one?
Looks good thanks again for sharing Your videos and information 🐟🐟
Thanks for following!
Hi
Hope u to talk about canter diff lock
Because I have 2001 4runner from 5 months but still don't know canter diff lock working or not

Need to get those LBJ replaced.

How many miles?
It has just over 200K... so just to where everything is broken in nicely :)
Kudos on leaving oem bumpers on and making the most with a smaller investment. It’s hard to beat the oem lines of these trucks.

Keep it stock and just get off road tires. Lot more reliable if you keep it stock.
Is that a cape lookout permit on your 4runner?
Sure is... we usually go twice a year, spring and fall, and I absolutely love it out there! You have been?
