Bless you for making this video. My respect and love for Dalton’s portrayal has only grown over the years. He was trying so hard to break Bond free from “the formula” and yet was unfortunately impossibly chained to it. It also didn’t help that he was following Roger Moore who, in the 7 films he had done, had ingrained his lighter, more funny, more relaxed Bond into the psyche of the film going public. What I absolutely love about Dalton’s Bond is that he had all these subtleties to his performance. He wasn’t trying to play Bond as a one liner superhero stereotype. He was a man. An imperfect man who at times, let his emotions show through when things got the better of him. For the first time in a LONG time, you FELT what it was like to be Bond and much of the time, it was NOT pleasant. Dalton made Bond once again a man you could genuinely believe was who he said he was. As far as I’m concerned, Dalton walked so Craig could run.

I've held this opinion on Dalton since I first saw The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill. Dalton was fantastic and his Bond clearly informed the Daniel Craig Era in both character and tone. His portrayal of a burned out, jaded Bond made him an instant favourite of mine. This was a really great chat. You guys work really well off of each other. Subscribed!

Timothy Dalton brought James Bond to life in the way the character was created by Ian Fleming.
He remains for me the best 007 ever!!!

      Excellent analysis.
I’d also like to state that Robert Davi who starred opposite Timothy Dalton in License to Kill played the best Bond villain in Franz Sanchez.

I actually think that Dalton didn't like the humour in his bond films as it felt like a hangover from the Moore films.
As you've said in later films, his comedy timing is proven to be really good.

Some of it feels out of place. You have a tense sequence with a tense soundtrack on that "sniper is a woman" scene and a few minutes later there's that sequence of Bond and Kara riding a cello down the mountain that could very well be in some Moore movie.

I know I'm just a random person from the internet but I have uncle who looks like a spitting image of older Timothy Dalton, I think it makes me like him and his Bonds more in addition to loving his movies, Living Daylights was a movie I didn't know I needed in my life, love 80s Mujahedeen trope.

Yes, Timothy Dalton is the best Bond. I don't think there's a bad Bond, not even Daniel Craig, at least in Casino Royale. Of course, Roger Moore accepted to work in some very bad Bond films.

He looks to me like a glorified car salesman. He was gonna sell me my next car, not a bond and Craig give me a break he doesn’t look the part he acts the part but he’s not Bond because he’s not Timothy Dalton

"The Living Daylights"(1987): a great-great James Bond film. 10/10. "Licence To Kill"(1989): a good violent adventure/revenge movie. 7/10. Actually, I like TLD(1987) much more, because it's so-called "classic" James Bond. Great opening, great music score by John Barry and A-ha title song, fantastic car Aston Martin V8 and wonderful cast: Joe Don Baker & John Rhys-Davies! TLD(1987) is expensive, elegant, glamorous film! ***** Now, I like LTK(1989) too, however this is a very different movie. It looks cheaper, it's too American and the stakes aren't as high. I mean: the world is not in danger. And Bond himself is too out of his mind. I mean, every 007 movie has a sacrificial lamb, right? So, how is this one way more important? And after all, Felix actually survived! The only real victim was Della. The saddest thing is that Felix Leiter wasn't exactly the smartest guy! His decision to marry was very irresponsible towards a wife. Did he not foresee what might happen??? Why would a secret agent(and a womanizer like James Bond) get married??? ***** Summary: TLD(1987) is like a great old Single Barley Malt Scotch Whisky. LTK(1989) is like a cheap young American Bourbon Whiskey. But as Bond once said: "But I love them both!". Cheers!

    • @khaledyafi449

Great insight but LTK is so badass that it is transcendent as a revenge story. Dalton is so cool and ice cold and it’s the role he was born to play. I love both films equally. Appreciate your insight 👍👍

It was very telling when Roger Moore said he didn't think Bond was portrayed as anything in the books, and that he wasn't in favour of a cold kill in For Your Eyes Only. It's like Roger if you don't like the character then don't play him. So on that basis thank Christ for Dalton.

Dalton was popular with Fleming purists but not with the general public. He was deemed to be too cold and aloof. Both his movies tanked disastrously in the United States of America, and United Artists refused to finance a third one, which is why he was jettisoned and Pierce Brosnan finally got his big chance. Don't believe all this guff about Dalton only doing two Bond movies because of 'legal reasons'. There was more to it than that.

It’s your job to give me a good product in Timothy Dalton bond was great then Brosnan or Craig and that is just in my opinion I adored him and it pissed me off that he only got two films when you go back and you read the novels and you get into the lore you get to know who this character is a Timothy Dalton was born to play this character and it just sucks that they gave him the boot and we didn’t get our third film because at the end of the day his third film is goldeneye
