Congrats on getting the lens, Adrian! I was conflicted on announcement day, because I really don’t have a Nikon camera that is good enough to use it very much so I waited until that afternoon to get on the waiting list. Everybody wanted one, so I did not get in on the first batch. Maybe I will get mine in the next month or so. But, like you, I definitely want one for when the Z 90 or whatever they call it finally comes out. Who needs a nature reserve when you can get beautiful photographs like that in your own garden! Really nice work and I have been hoping to see more photography from that garden since the day you showed it to us. Thanks, Adrian!
I called my camera store just now to see how far down the list I am and I am number four on their list so hopefully when they get their next batch of lenses in I will get mine. 😎
Thanks Phil. When the new Nikon APS-C comes out it'll be interesting to see the features. I'm hoping for 4K 120FPS but we'll see I guess? Nikon will have to do something special as the D500 is such a great camera in the DSLR world for birds and wildlife as you know. I was lucky to get this lens when I did. There's a big back order here in Australia. Have a great weekend buddy cheers 🙏
Wow Adrian! Those bird shots in your garden - who needs to get out further when you can get that from your back door (or front door!). Looking forward to the fun you'll have with this lens and the extra reach it'll give you - especially for the birds.
Thanks Denise. I've been using it every day since I got it. Still finding new things it can do which is great. A great lens for the price and the reach you can get with it. Have a great week ahead, cheers 🙏📸
Hi Adrian, that looks like the perfect lens for your wildlife photography. Great choice, buddy 😉 Also a good idea to keep your 100-400mm lens, especially for landscapes or whenever you have the need to bring your lens(es) into your bag 🙂 A great video, thank you for sharing! Enjoy your weekend, Christian
Thank you Christian. I'm loving this lens in the few days I've had it. Been out with it everyday. Pity, cause I got some better shots since this video. Oh well. Have a great weekend buddy, cheers for watching 🙏

Fun to watch! Loved the enthusiasm and happy jig when you received it. Awesome shots already in just a day or so. You can see every detail on the birds' feathers!! Can't wait to see more, like the moon and wishful thinking, but whale watching!
I own the Z50, so a review with this new lens and the Z50 would be great. But like you I am waiting for Nikon to replace their D500 with a mirrorless version with similar AF to their Z8/Z9 and of course with IBIS.
Looking forward to see future images and videos with this lense. I recently got a Sigma 150-600mm Sports to go with my Sony A7riii and am loving the lense for widlife and my tree photography. Have fun.

The wait was definitely worth it I reckon:) Lovely images & footage mate. Was so good to see your gorgeous magpie building a nest & that their plumage is so different to that of ours here in Vic. Looking fwd to seeing what you’ll be capturing with this combo! Have a good one !🐦📸
Adrian, Thank you for another great video and stunning photos/video as usual! I am moving-on to your next video on the 180-600, but in case it is not covered, will this lens work with a Nikon TC for a bit of added reach?
The 180-600 is a great lens. You got some nice shots. I bought it rather than the 600mm prime and the money I saved paid for half of the 800mm. But the size of these 2 lenses is too similar. So I upgraded the 180-600 to the smaller, sharper, lighter 100-400mm S lens. So just carrying the Z9 and these 2 lenses (100-400 & 800mm) I can shoot handheld from 100mm to 1,600mm (with TCs). I love this combination. Nikon is creating some really amazing glass.
Congratulations on your new purchase mate! Brilliant intro by the way, that was awesome! What a beautiful lens! I'm sure you're going to do great things with it. Some really great first images and the video footage looks fantastic as well, but can't wait for you to really put it through its paces... I'm sure you already have something in mind 😂 By the way your bird Garden is looking absolutely amazing! What a beautiful space you've created there! Hope you've been out enjoying your new lens and having a great weekend! Take care mate!
Thanks for watching Paul. It's a bit dry here at the moment, so all the birds are coming up from the reserve to my bird garden to feed on all freshly watered plants (kinda like Richie and the gang going to Arnold's on Happy Days 😂) Mate I love this lens. It was worth the wait and just really happy I've finally got it. A great budget lens for the reach it gives you. Have a great week ahead Paul and take care 🙏📸

Hello Adrian, as I told you on instagram, I would like a comparison at 500mm compared to the 500PF, concerning the speed of focus and the sharpness of the image, if you obviously have a 500PF available 😊
Hi Adrian I also have the 180-600mm and was contemplating on selling my beloved 80-400 that I have on my D850, however after watching your video I am undecided. The reasons why I wanted to sell it was because I feel I will probably not use it as much and secondly it suffers from color fringing alot more than the 180-600mm, please note this is only with VR ON, and yes I have noticed it on the 180-600mm too but not as much. Have you seen any blue and orange fringing on images with moving subjects like BIF with VR ON ?
Thanks for the video, very useful to get a perspective for a similar application. I shoot birds and while I loved my 500 f/4 I had to get rid of it because it was becoming too heavy for me. I had started using the 80-400 paired with a D500 and have been very happy with that combination but the reach was just not there. I've been eyeing the 180-600 and would like to pair that with a Z9 wondering if I should keep the 100-400 S lens or not? I find that I almost never change lenses in the field and I am not going to be able to handle two bodies. In some of our parks in India, we do manage to get fairly close to some of the big cats, leopards and tigers but even there at least 300 mm is the safer choice, the zoom lets one get nice portraits. Would you recommend getting the 180-600 and getting rid of the 100-400? Once again thanks for the content you create. Enjoying it. Cheers…Kishore -
Thank you for watching Kishore I really appreciate it. About the only reason I’d be keeping the 100-400mm is for traveling. I would not want to travel with the 180-600mm. The great advantage with the 180-600mm is the minimum focus distance of 1.3 meters at 180mm. That means you can get closer to that wildlife you mentioned. Cheers 🍻 🙏
@@adrianalfordphotography Thank you for the super prompt response. I do understand that the 180-600 is a bit bulkier and heavier than the 100-400 but my fear is if I get used to that focal length the 100-400 would not get used at all. I'd just get an appropriate bag to fit the Z9 with a 180-600 and the necessary accessories for travel. Appreciate your response. I'll keep you posted in what happens and if you come to India let me know, would be happy to take you birding or for a tiger safari.
At the moment I have no UV filter on the lens. But I am lazy and should realistically buy one for protection. The thing is the lens hood is so big I doubt anything would get close to the front of the lens.
Sadly not a lens I will get, it's just to heavy and to long, the 100-400 makes a big hole in the bank account, but not a to big hole in the camera bag.

I'd just get an appropriate bag to fit the Z9 with a 180-600 and the necessary accessories for travel. Appreciate your response. I'll keep you posted in what happens and if you come to India let me know, would be happy to take you birding or for a tiger safari.
What a great lens!!😎
Was just out with it this afternoon. It’s so awesome. Got some great shots. Looking forward to more adventures with this. Thanks for watching 🙏📸
@@adrianalfordphotography very nice!
Do you add any protective glass on that lens?
At the moment I have no UV filter on the lens. But I am lazy and should realistically buy one for protection. The thing is the lens hood is so big I doubt anything would get close to the front of the lens.
Is it power full in zoom range? is it good for photographing small birds far away?
Yes it is. If you want any more power you can add a 1.4 tele or shoot in DX crop. Next alternative is an 800mm lens which is $10K Australian dollars.
A question about traveling, how do carry your gear on aircraft, especially with a tripod?
Tripod goes in checked baggage. Lens + camera goes on plane with me in camera bag.
@@adrianalfordphotography Thanks.
This lens is just wonderful, no need to purchase a 400 2.8 for the price of a car. Which is asinine when this is just great!
I also own the 180-600 for two weeks, unfortunately the VR in lens works not properly. 😒
Thanks for watching. Sorry to hear about the VR not working right. My version is working no problems. Have a great day 🙏
I like that f7.1 cuz I do the same😀
7 months on the waitlist😢
Wow! 😯
Still waiting…sigh.
Sadly not a lens I will get, it's just to heavy and to long, the 100-400 makes a big hole in the bank account, but not a to big hole in the camera bag.
