    Nice one Dave,
Cool idea, there's a seller on eBay UK that sells precision vials.
About £10 to £15, 70mm long, they also have more graduations rings.
I may try this idea :)

The 35mm one is actually more accurate - 2mm at 60 inches. That's even cheaper

I have a couple of vials I use just as they are, no mount etc. Because the OD of them is very parallel, as long as your surface is flat so they don't roll off, they're ideal for use on small items.

Great idea there Dave. You could wind up being a competitor of Starrett.

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks for this,
I had thought of doing something similar as I can't afford a real one for my hobbies either.
I was thinking of a steel base for weight and a length to span the ways on my mini lathe. Now seeing what you are going through maybe a dark background behind the bubble for contrast and a sliding pointer to reference the movement.
Looking forward to your next steps.
    Chuck

    Hi Dave,
You might like to look up an article many years ago in "Model Engineers Workshop" magazine by Harold Hall re making this type of level, could be of interest to you re method of attachment. I believe it is also on his website, have not checked that.
Great job. Stay safe and well.
    Regards
    Barry, Australia.

It's actually pretty simple and I would love to see how you do it!

Yes sir all aluminum. And it works far better than I thought it would.

I would have left it long. It's a tool for finding level, not flatness. So riding over the local roughness is a good thing. And how about a nice heavy compression spring under it at the adjustment end?

It was just a proof of concept and can be refined more now that I know how sensitive it is....

Nice To see You're with us Dave!
At the time 18:50 You show a really close and nice foto. You could do that much more often. Your presentation before that time...... Sorry but I don't understand much out of it when I can't se the objects well enough. Blowing up the UA-cam picture doesn't work. It quickly goes back to standard.
Take a look at Joe Pie and his white board drawing. The brightness of Your white sheet of paper totally hides You sketching.
A model train builder told me that grey paper background was generally giving better contrast for fotos.

Dave, I’ve been a subscriber for a long time and really appreciate your channel. But lately, I’ve hoped you’ll bring the camera in a lot closer to the table., We can see at a distance what you’re doing and yes, as you yourself said, sometimes you get a bit long winded. On the “level” video, at about 19 minutes in, you did a closeup of the finished level...Great!!!..... perhaps you could compromise during the setup and explanation phase of your videos and bring the camera in closer, so we can see clearly what you’re describing. I know you’re Dave, and not “This Old Tony”, but although (as you know) you see his hands and what he’s working on....and always close enough to see and understand what he’s talking about. Like I said, I love your channel, but I feel these comments can only enhance the pleasure your subscribers get from watching you.
