I was in the US Army and served as a Dental lab tech, in germany from 1966 to 1967. I had my own lab unit and one of my german civilians was a Surviver of stalingrade named Victor Zimmerman. He died of the effects of his time as a POW, and we all wnt to His Funeral. in Munchin.

My Grandfather served in the 6th armee, was captured in 1943 and released from labor camp in 1952. He never revealed much about war times but few years before he died he wrote 7 very touching pages that made me cry. Taking a look around today everyone in the West should know why Germans fought to the last bullet back than.

Sorry Peter. You're wrong. Nazism created the mess we have now. It's just a reaction to the absolute stupidity of extremist racial theory. Everyone knows blondes are dumb. It's the Germanic ego problem of blaming everyone else and not accepting personal responsibility. How do I know?? My great grandmother was 100% German, I totally understand.

I'm less interested in the end than in the beginning......if Germany had been totally defeated in WW1, occupied, then maybe those German's would have known better.

The German army that fought and suffered in Russia was probably one the best and experienced armies ever, and Hitler, being a military genius, took control of it (because his generals like Manstien) were incompetent (according to Hitler) and what was the result of Hitler’s insane idiotic orders? He totally destroyed that elite fighting force! Didn’t Hitler think he had enough on his plate fighting Russia and the British without deciding unilaterally (without consulting anyone) that declaring war on the United States just might not be a good idea? He based his military decisions on mindless bigotry instead of understanding his opponents! That’s just plain ignorant and stupid! ….and his soldiers paid the price of his ignorance.

Interesting and informative. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand what/whom the orator was describing. Professional class A research project!!! Special thanks to veteran soldiers civilians sharing personal information/combat experiences. Fighting/perishing/surviving knowing certain death/debilitating wounds were often times possible. Yet still advanced forward/stood their ground. Regardless of the consequences. Due to general Paulus blind faith ignorance obeying the disillusioned/arrogant fuhrer's orders. Not to retreat while there was still time. Afterwards lived liked a king 👑 as a ( POW ) along with other generals. Within the cities perimeters of Suzdal. Much better captivity accommodations then the low ranking infantry soldiers were afforded. I've no respect for that disillusioned/incompetent fool. 🃏🃏

Thanks! I still think that the 6th army did not die in vain. If they had retreated, the western southern flank of the eastern front would have been surrounded. They would not be able to defend the steppe. Having lost the sixth army, Germany saved many more of its soldiers.
