The 'All' in mode, is THE mode for parallel compression. Slam your signal with a high input and all buttons activated, then mix this in with your dry signal, tucking it just under, to really fill things out. You will retain all of the dynamics and transients of the dry signal, but have things much phatter and fuller, due to the slammed parallel compressed signal, working along side it.
Good video Jonas. I hope that one day make a video where you show how to start in music production, at least basic aspects. I know there are many channels with this topic but you have a philosophy that many of your viewers love.
Well, I got educated to be an audio engineer. After that I still made a lot of bad mixes 😁 Theory vs practice. Nowadays I'm reasonably confident doing mixes but it took quite a while.
Nice! 👍 Thanks. Please don't stop. Well explained and usefull. The historical overview, the examples and finally your personality makes it one of the best I've encountered. And the time format is perfect. Don't change anything! 😁
I keep learning more and more. This is the best lessons you can receive. Jonas, thank you so much. I hope to meet you one day. Also thanks for the tips on the clone. I will play with it. 😍
Great video, awesome!! Maybe next could be Fairchild 670 compressor review/history. Its one of the most expensive hardware units available in second hand market. And there are lots of 670 plugins from IK Multimedia, UAD, Waves... Thanks Jonas! Your videos are very interesting to watch!
I got an LA610, it has a tube pre and a t4. Sounds amazing on bass and vocals also good for front end. So glad i bought it when i had the money, kinda pricey now.
I was playing around with Arturia version the other day and thought it sounded good on drums. I had no idea it is modelled on such a historic piece of hardware - noob 😁 I’m really enjoying this format of video, keep em coming 👍
whenever i need an 1176 i just use pro-c and set it as it would be one. come to think of it i use pro-c for every single compression style can really recommend no need for a single other compression plugin what so ever, will save u some money
I fore someone who wants emulation of Pultec there is a free vst called RareSE.It also does M/S.If Ik Multimedia offers free emulation called TR5 Black 76 with M/S and ALL mode.
Encore une excellente vidéo Jonas ! For the example with the female voice sample, is it a sample of an already existing song or a specific bank?? I really like !!!! Thank you again for your sharing. :)
@@Estuera I'm really confused and sorry I didn't recognize this singer you had worked with. By the way, are you going to rewrite a piece with her? I love her voice and your music magnifies her even more!
It would be cool if you show us some modern classics too. Are there any successful (electronic music) producers that don't use the old classics for example?
I'm pretty sure that many people do not use the classics. There is lots of modern hardware and software that is amazing. For a video format like this there isn't much to tell about those though.
I recently bought a behringer compressor. £15 for a hardware unit. Don't get me wrong it's not "classic" but just wanted to get into the mind set of using hardware.
How do you give a history of the 1176 while brushing over the UA 175b/176 ? You also never mention the 1178 Stereo version.. Come on buddy google is easy Now I have to watch your pultec video to see if you messed up on that.
I could hear the difference between bypass and wet for the drums, but couldn't hear any differences with the vocals. I guess I need to work on my mastering skills.
I was also just staring at the meters in disbelief. Just couldn't hear a difference between ratios 4 to 20. I've worked really hard on my musical ear over the years. Now that I'm finally doing alright recognizing intervals and harmonies, I'm finding out about all these studio tricks and I'm back to square one. 😣
The youtube audio processing is to blame as well here. They do some compression and limiting themselves which kind of hides the more subtle effects here. Best to try this out yourself using one of the plugins so you can really hear what is happening.

Exactly ✅
Secret sauce!!!
Man your videos have been a blessing for my music these days. Thank God I found your content!

my favorite channel :)
i didn't know you were Audio Engineer in the past.
makes sense your mixing is really amazing.
Well, I got educated to be an audio engineer. After that I still made a lot of bad mixes 😁 Theory vs practice. Nowadays I'm reasonably confident doing mixes but it took quite a while.
This guy knows what he is talking about. Love your Somnium track with Leon Bolier man. 😍👌🏾
That break.. Amazing ❤️

Yep. Those are on the list

Great video as always Jonas! Nice to hear the basic vocals for Fall to Pieces as well!

your videos are so good man... keep them coming!! :)
Great video, thanks!
I have the waves and the Arturia 1176. It seems like the waves version adds more harmonics. Both are nice and I have found uses for both versions.
Cubase's built-in "Vintage" compressor is also modeled after 1176!
Ah yes, I totally forgot 🤦♂️
Interesting. How accurate is it, though? I use the one on my UAD card, mainly, but the Vintage Compressor in Cubase is great, for zero latency.

I am the first spectator,yeah!!!😉👍😎
Good review; very clear and helpfull (like the Pultec video).
So maybe the LA-2A next!?
Maybe yes
LA-2A on my UAD, is my go to for vocals and sub bass.
I fore someone who wants emulation of Pultec there is a free vst called RareSE.It also does M/S.If Ik Multimedia offers free emulation called TR5 Black 76 with M/S and ALL mode.
going to try this with plugin alliance purple audio mc77 on my new d16 group 808 sim nepheton
Encore une excellente vidéo Jonas !

The vocal is from a track I did with Jennifer René in 2007: 'Fall to pieces'

The more you slam it the better it sounds

And its always a good idea to not immediately start spending crazy money when you're still in the exploration phase.
10:17 oh oh. Be careful what you say there. Don't want to get cancelled! ;)
The Bluey is affotable for 999€, and approved by CLA

Try to focus on the dynamic peaks in the vocals when bypassed. You can hear (and see) them being flattened.

Did you use good quality headphones, Chad? That will help you hearing the differences.
have you ever worked with a real mechanical spring reverb or plate echo/reverb?
I can't remember being in a studio that had one of those.
Are you coming to Luminosity in August?
This year probably not no
Keep em coming 👌
