My pack list, I am writing it while listening to your Video, so there may be some things you already said: - Riding gear, all of it + Rain cover - 1 pair of boxers and socks per riding day esp. socks are important - T-Shirts, 2 pair of pants, one for after riding, one for city visits - Depending on location, warmer clothes - Toothbrush&Paste, shaver, soap (Hair/Skin combined, I use it as shaving foam also), Deodorant. Keeping yourself clean may require a shirt or two less in your luggage and is for me the main thing to keep the journey comfortable. - rain cover - Towel - Swim shorts - Sleeping Bag (& hut sleeping bag) - Self-filling mattress (it's as small as a sleeping bag when folded!) - Tent - Camping chair (Sitting while eating is gold!) - Tools: My 1150GS has some tools under the seat, never needed it. But I only ride in Europe so there is a shop nearby. But I carry two spark plugs and spare lights for headlight. - Sunglasses and sight glasses - Pack of glass cleaners for glasses & visors, pack of tissues for daily needs - Money and papers. I keep my money separate at different spots so I can't lose it all - Camera: Small Sony A6000 & Two lenses, 3x battery. - Smartphone loaded with maps of journey - Printed out route - 2x 10.000mAh charger, just in Case I need some energy. I extended my Bike with a 12v plug and an USB converter so I can charge my camera and phone on the ride - I use my Tank bag only for supplies, such as water and food for the day and only for longer trips. On short trips I eat lunch when I see a nice place - Earplugs (Man, use them!) - When we just go camping for a few days, I carry a bluetooth speaker with me for evenings - 1 Pair of sneakers, newer Nike or Adidas ones can be folded until flat as a smartphone, 1 pair of sandals - Under the seat I have a small pack of medical supplies and aspirine and band aids. Staying clean is the most important for me during larger trips. A clean set of clothes and a body you feel well in is 100x more comfortable than heated grips and electric suspension settings. All easily fits in two small cases and one topcase (or packing roll). Only thing you need to scale is underwear and shirts. If you have the money, leave the tent at home and sleep under a real roof. I highly recommend a small tank bag as it makes the ride uncomfortable and you can not lock it. So keep disposable things in there. Thanks for reading and be safe :-)
Just one spare outfit, identical to what I'm wearing. A poncho for long waits at customs. A neck gaiter that can be attached to a long-sleeved shirt. Everything is black. Two pairs of thick socks. Camping gear always makes me feel free. Total weight: personal gear, always under 10 kg in my backpack. 7 kg on the bike. 10 kg in the saddlebags. I weigh 80 kg. Great suggestions. If I were to add one thing, I would probably list ear plugs. Bring along a small bag of the cheap soft foam ones. Share them with your riding buddies if you must. They may buy you a beer at the end of a long day for sharing them.
I always aquire THE BEST ADVICE from your videos & this one is no exception! I'm revisiting this video after doing some other research on McAdv packing (my abbreviation) & found plenty of information about "on road" trips, but by guys (& gals!) mostly on big cruisers. I purposely chose information on in-country McAdv's (Europe, the Continental U.S., even Australia) like my anticipated trip. This wasn't bad or unwelcome as my first McAdv would indeed be within the "Lower 48" in the U.S. I, obviously wouldn't need to take everything as I would be dealing with my own country, so currency, parts/service, emergency/medical issues, etc.) wouldn't be less of a hassle. My bags would be hard luggage (sturdy, waterproof, & lockable) & waterproof bags, with my camping gear strapped across their top. The packing would be closer to what YOU do than some of the other riders I found. My '05 Suz GSF1200s "Bandit" MAY be classed as a SprtTour model by some, but I feel she's not THAT big. Taking the camping gear is still "up in the air" just because of making the decision of camping on the trip or not. If yes, then my little propane burner (or similar) & a couple of items would come because I'm a "foodie", would like a familiar meal while on my McAdv, & I kinda like the idea of "roughing it a little". I think the "roughing it a little" part MAY be a psychologically worthwhile part of the trip. Even tho I MAY have a slightly difficult time with camping, 'cause I'm an "old guy" of 51yrs, if I'm in good/better shape AND make an additional effort to physically prepare, I'll probably be just fine. Since a McAdv trip is something I wanted to do when I was MUCH younger. I think I'd want to tough it out & do all that I believe I wanted to do back then, again for my psychological morale while McAdv-ing. I take my kitchen sink so i can wash up on my trips. Yes, always keep your stuff in smaller waterproof bags. I have learned that the hard way. When on a trip it rained for three days, and all my stuff was wet. Rain gear is also good. It is hard to ride when you are wet from rain or splashing water. trail mix is a good food to carry. Trail mix is much lighter than can food, and you don't need water to get it ready to eat. Jerky meat is best. Trying to carry cooking equipment takes up space.
I don't plan to do any adventure riding in the near future but I can't stop watching this videos so much knowledge you can see he knows what's hes talking about I really enjoy the videos thank you!!
Nothing keeps the rain out if you ride long and fast. Internal rain gear is a waste of time in my experience (Especially with textile outer gear as it saturated and heavy), External rain gear is the way to go, it keeps textiles gear dryer longer, can be replaced if torn or worn out and the riding gear is generally cheaper than those that have internal rain layers
These vlogs are have production values as well as content now. Good stuff. Have to agree with content here. On my Tenere now even with the good lady on the back we manage with one roll bag on the back (50litre) and two small panniers. (21litres) . No tank bag. Basically I gave her a carrier bag and said that was her allowed space - which lead to some interesting conversation. . We have slimmed down what we carry a lot having stopped using big hard panniers. 'Light is right' Happy travels Pavlin.
Another great video. Seems we learned to pack pretty much the same after a few years of carrying the wrong things, never used so don't bring them again. I carry my partners and my wet weather outer gear in a compression pack and it fits in my tank bag with my camera, spare gloves and other stuff. Totally agree that although many claim different brands work better, blah, blah a week of rain is no comfort. Spare gloves and socks easy to carry. Simple really. Cheers.
You must be my brother from another mother. Your kit is almost identical to mine. I Totally agree about the expensive "waterproof" gear. I have it, and yes it WILL leak eventually. The only fabric that is totally waterproof is rubber. Offshore fishermen wear rubber, not GoreTex. Try riding in a rubber suit right? LOL. I wear a vented jacket and use a cheap, synthetic, packable, windproof puffer jacket for cold weather. Duck down will not dry if it gets wet. I will not use anything cotton to wear. Synthetic fabrics only. 2 of each. One long sleeve, one short, two underwear, two pair of socks, two pair of synthetic pants. Wash the dirty and air dry while riding. My kit is down to 18lbs with camping gear. The 3 case, 3 duffle, GS riders always laugh at me...I laugh at them too. To each his own...
I owned a 1200 Tiger XC with Touratech cases, trunk, duffel and tanker and filled them. If you have the room, you will fill it with stuff you will never use or need. Then I had a spill alone on a mountain pass, picked up my bike and tore my bicep tendon. Never again. Some ADV guys are the same as HD guys. If you have all the stuff, you're cool or something...I get it, I did it. At 53, I just don't care anymore.
Hi Mark, had the same experience with 63! Went to the mountains (Pyrenees) and took 3 rooms, kitchen, bathroom with me (it was nothing than the fear to feel unable to manage situations)! Sent home many kilos with expensive shipping costs, at least it was always too heavy. At home, again I dropped off all, I didn.t need. In the end I had 19kg, before 62 (empty panniers+TC 15kg!!). I use bags now, 2 1/2 kg and a daypack behind me! Feel free now like a bird surfing the world. One time I even tought: Change the bike. Made some bio-tuning, too, minus 9 kg, all is perfect now!! ;-)))
Very interesting my friend. I was actually browsing looking for something else when I saw this and I figured I take a look. As always you hit the nail right on the head. So many times, in fact more often then not, we see people overloaded with useless things, this is true today as it has always been. One instance in particular comes to mind, over 30 years ago, my friend and I ran into a German guy (with more money then brains) on an 80GS that was loaded with his entire houshold it seemed, but he would not listen to reason when my friend and I tried to convince him to ditch his preserves (enough to make the survivors of the walking dead jelous) for water and ship his tires ahead (yes it already worked back then)...I offered him my goat skin as I always did for newbies which seemed to offend him, at which point we gave up. As the trip down the Tanezrouft progressed the poor bastard had slowed us down so much that, for our own survival, we stopped sharing our water with him and he had to drink the juices out if his cans. On one hand a good thing as he started seeing a difference in handling but on the other hand he started developing a diharreae, not something you want in the desert. Needles to say we ditched the dude at the first safe place, Ain Salah where a trucker agreed to load his bike and drive him back to Algiers. The moral here is that, as you rightfully say we don't have to care how much people wants to pack, though in the end it makes the difference between an awsome journey, a laboured one or even a total faliure. Great tips...you are doing a great job.
Amen to rain gear being #1 on your list. Here in my part of the US if you don't like the weather, sports teams, traffic, construction, politics, etc. . . wait 5 minutes and it will change. All that & I hate to ride soaking wet anyway.

Thank you. Re your reviews for the ADV bikes. Maybe it is also good if you can use your past experience with other bikes as reference when describing a current bike in review. It gives good perspective. You tried it a couple of times but it can help as a better gauge rather on relying on general descriptive words. Also at the end you love commenting about the price. Since it is relative to the buyer it might create unwanted bias when you say something is expensive. Maybe focusing on the value proposition would be better. Just my friendly advise for you. Like the reviews though.

Man ... how good it is, to drink from your experience!! I allready told you this, but I have watched all of your videos, so it's easy to understand your concepts and thinking ... and still, you surprised me, with not taking the cooking set next time! Please be honest, is it because you're giving yourself more comfort on these trips, choosing more hotels, rather then camping? I can understand that, it's a matter of choice, but I´ve seen a lot of places where you've been this last time, and if by chance, in the middle of Mongólia you happened to have a major breakdown, and needed to stay put for one or two days in the wild, wouldn't that set be missing ? Just like the Medical Kit - We always carry it, but hope not to need it !! Sorry to bother you, but I would like to know your thoughts about this. Thanks in advance !! Cheers
The simple answer is that if I stuck on the places where you cannot find food, for what I am going to use the cooking staff? Simple food, can, some snacks or just bread you can buy everywhere around the world.

I can't wait to do my first real Motorcycle Adventure 2018. i will buy a Royal Enfield Himalayan. i did not testdrive it yet, but i am quite sure, it will be my adventure-bike. *can you tell me, what you think about this bike?* i think you say, it's a great adventurebike, but a little low in horsepower :) maybe. i had a suzuki vanvan 125, a suzuki gsr 600, now a cb1000r (which i will keep) and i think the himalayan will do the job.

I totally understand your point about the rain gear but what are your thoughts about wearing a raincoat that is usable if it rains while riding under your riding jacket. This way you only have to carry one raincoat that is thinner and will protect you under both conditions?
Sounds good on paper, but that is mean that your riding jacket will be completely wet after couple of hours. After it stop you will remove the raincoat (otherwise you will sweat a lot) and by removing it you will stay with the wet jacket...

Thank you. Re your reviews for the ADV bikes. Maybe it is also good if you can use your past experience with other bikes as reference when describing a current bike in review. It gives good perspective. You tried it a couple of times but it can help as a better gauge rather on relying on general descriptive words. Also at the end you love commenting about the price. Since it is relative to the buyer it might create unwanted bias when you say something is expensive. Maybe focusing on the value proposition would be better. Just my friendly advise for you. Like the reviews though.

Yes, I have tires with tubes. If you have puncture you have to fix it.

Man ... how good it is, to drink from your experience!! I allready told you this, but I have watched all of your videos, so it's easy to understand your concepts and thinking ... and still, you surprised me, with not taking the cooking set next time! Please be honest, is it because you're giving yourself more comfort on these trips, choosing more hotels, rather then camping? I can understand that, it's a matter of choice, but I´ve seen a lot of places where you've been this last time, and if by chance, in the middle of Mongólia you happened to have a major breakdown, and needed to stay put for one or two days in the wild, wouldn't that set be missing ? Just like the Medical Kit - We always carry it, but hope not to need it !! Sorry to bother you, but I would like to know your thoughts about this. Thanks in advance !! Cheers
The simple answer is that if I stuck on the places where you cannot find food, for what I am going to use the cooking staff? Simple food, can, some snacks or just bread you can buy everywhere around the world.

I can't wait to do my first real Motorcycle Adventure 2018. i will buy a Royal Enfield Himalayan. i did not testdrive it yet, but i am quite sure, it will be my adventure-bike. *can you tell me, what you think about this bike?* i think you say, it's a great adventurebike, but a little low in horsepower :) maybe. i had a suzuki vanvan 125, a suzuki gsr 600, now a cb1000r (which i will keep) and i think the himalayan will do the job.
I didn't get why you avoid bed sheet or blanket , it might be unavoidable in my experience either camping or lodging.

I totally understand your point about the rain gear but what are your thoughts about wearing a raincoat that is usable if it rains while riding under your riding jacket. This way you only have to carry one raincoat that is thinner and will protect you under both conditions?
Sounds good on paper, but that is mean that your riding jacket will be completely wet after couple of hours. After it stop you will remove the raincoat (otherwise you will sweat a lot) and by removing it you will stay with the wet jacket...
