Money can be saved several ways: 1.) Drive slower 2) Keep it longer, 3) progressive shifting, 4) good trip planning 5) don't idle too much, 6) coast into the stops 7) don't downshift too much, etc. Nice truck. Thanks for the vid.
Shay Earl you can get a Cummings in any brand of truck and all the new carb compliance stuff is crap, I waited on this new redesigned Cummings to come out with the hopes it's better and the key is to not idle these trucks and know the truck itself and stay on top of maintenance and it should preform nicely and it's under warranty if it doesn't
Shay Earl that's about the life span before trouble hits on all dpf filters been there quite a few times my plan is trading before warranty is up from now on, just keep driving a new one it's cheaper that way
Heck, I'd say it looks better than ALL the trucks on the road, even dirty. That tractor trailer combo is just beautiful! True pride of ownership in that unit!
Mike Mueller I have a few driving clips to upload once I figure out how to get rid of my background music and thank you, I'm just a normal real truck driver
I’m 38 years old and have always, for as long as I can remember, wanted my Class 1 license. I have decided that this will be my next endeavour as I love being on the road. I really appreciate your vids as they paint a pretty picture of road life as a trucker. Heck, maybe we’ll meet someday. Cheers from BC, Canada.
Here in Spain, with a modern 13l engine, we are getting about 7,3 mpg's with a gross weight of 88 thousand lbs. By the way, what a wonderful truck. Great vids....cheers!
Thank you for posting your videos. It is great to see one of Peterbilt Steve's patrons using&sharing his Pete. I really appriciate your philosophy regarding this type of truck&the trade off vs benefits. Well done sir&keep them coming! I will keep an eye out for you on I-80 in Western Wyoming...as long as it's not past 9:00pm!
I worked for PACCAR back in the late '90's. Loved going over to the KW plant and watching the trucks being built. Really cool (never got to Denton). Nice Pete!
such a bad ass tractor! I love that cream white color. It makes it have that touch of old school. Im fresh out of trucking school and this is what i dream of having. Worth every penny and anyone all the people saying you over paid are most likely jealous. Thanks for the great vids!
My first truck when I got into our business 25 years ago was a Peterbuilt cab over.Later on I got into car hauling and again I drove a fire engine red Peterbuilt with a open rack trailer Chrome out truck n trailer. The company was out of Jacksonville,Fl and there name is "Proficant" one of the fastest and best riding and running rigs I ever had the pleasure of driving even to this day. This fig stood out like a champ because it is a champ! All I can say Peterbuilts are some of the nicest trucks on the road and your 2018 Peterbuilt is a beautiful truck with your trailer.I must say you have excellent taste in equipment and I hope you stay healthy and prosperous in your growing business so you can enjoy that beautiful truck and trailer for many more years to come!See you out here doing well is truly a inspiration to the rest either starting out or old timer like myself trying to better myself. Continue safe and prosperous journeys.PS I am applying for BCO opportunity at Landstar so who knows I may see you on the road someday which would so cool 😎
Exactly couldn't of said it better my self, when I think american trucks I think of a big Pete with a tone of chicken lights with a big bumper blowing smoke not the 2018 little girl cascadia with its automatic shity transmission that is made of plastic, love the videos keep it up👍🇺🇸
Best video out here people kill me about fuel mileage on hoods I got a 386 glider to make money till I can trade for my dream truck 389 keep on trucking great job on the video
Top notch QUALITY ride. Not another POS plastic Freightliner missing fenders etc. There are enough of the garbage trucks in the road it's so nice to hear someone that appreciates a quality, CLASSIC styled American truck. Pride in what you do, Pride in your Iron !!! That's exactly where I'm at, I'm sick and tired of aero trucks that plague the roads, mine included, that lose the trucking tradition and style. Talked to Steve yesterday and I'm looking at going the same route as you with a truck!! Carry on Sir, fine looking rig!!
Charles Pyatt you will not regret it, I promise and you will keep more of your money without all the breakdowns, tell Steve that Tim Ghorley sent you, I’ll buy lunch if we ever meet up.
Life is Good. Sounds good to me. I subscribed to Steve recently and called him directly after he posted his monster energy green truck video. Had a very pleasant conversation and he brought you up as a person to look up on UA-cam so far I've been enjoying it quite a bit. Definitely would be nice to have a sit-down cup of coffee sometime if we ever meet up on the road. I mostly run the Southeast.
Life is Good. Tim, would you be willing to chat on the phone sometime this week? My email is my username at gmail dot Com Several questions... Looking to order from Steve soon i hope
For most guys out there including my self, most important is take home cash. I personally bought old 99 volvo with 12.7 detroit for $8000 and making tons of money without any debt, payments and other bullshit that comes with new truck. yes its slow, yes its old , but the end of the day it makes me money. I hate debt. Life without any payments gotta love it
alex bee you enjoy that, I was once like that myself, now this is the new me style of trucking and I'm quite happy and honestly my bank account is growing just the same, that's what makes us American, freedom of choice!
You sir have a gorgeous truck. Some people don't understand that as the owner, fuel cost is only part of the equation. As long as you get something in return for a little loss in milage it's all good. When the loss is due to poor technique or poor maintenance that poor milage is an issue. For example, I can run 65 and get 7 mpg but have to sleep in the truck again or I can hammer down, 75, get low 5 but, I am home, with a cold beer, with sweet thing, and in my own bed for first time in 4 weeks. Cost in extra fuel to drink beer, get laid, and sleep comfortably TODAY, about 25 bucks. To me, worth it. To somebody else, maybe not. Be safe.
Nice truck and as long as you re happy who cares or who matters it's your house and you should be happy there and enjoy it be safe and take good care of her she is a looker!
Peterbilt Steve does a damn fine job setting these trucks up right. Your truck is a rolling work of art, and I salute your choice. I’d definitely take it over that “Prius” any day. Safe travels Brother.
you made the correct decision. you either want to drive a Prius or you want to drive an Escalade. and you've got the Escalade baby keep the big girl between the ditches roll safe. have a good one.
I loved my Pete's. Last one was a 1992. I barely got 5 mpg. Never was very good at mpg myself but I got it there quick. Made decent money, and had confort and class. No matter how long I was out I was always sorry to shut her down. I can't believe how much they cost now. I paid 86 grand for my 92. 78 grand for my 88. Both were 379s with OO specs. In 1977 I had a 75, 352 with 1693 Cat... Pulling a 42' Transcraft lightweight flat my tare was 22,500.... Any way. Love your vids. I spent 25 years hauling dry vans, flats, and lowboys. Hauling whatever fit in the trailer...and mostly stuff that didn't fit. Up to 150,000 gross. Once 14' wide. Hauled a liquid bulk storage tank accross a factory that was 30' tall...loved and hated the industry. Haven't driven in 10 years now. Miss the old days. Still feel like a trucker. Be safe.
I think I saw you yesterday at rest area at PA, Ohio border. Had I known I would have loved to say hello but found your videos today. Keep posting the fantastic content.
Amen Tim! My 2000 Kenworth W900L with the big 3406E 1MM Caterpillar, 15.8 liter model, gets somewhere between 4.5-6 MPG's, depending on the weight and how I'm driving but it's exactly what I wanted so I got it lol my trucks pushing somewhere around 700 Hp and like 2500 ish for torque. It's really about what you want, to get better fuel mileage or to go for the classic iconic American truck look. This is Robert off Facebook btw, talk to you all the time lol classy guy for sure.
Shit 160k is a damn good price for that truck! Hell a w900l is about 180k if you get it decked out, but for 160k thats a damn good price! Thats Trux lights Daul evolution Or something like that lol!
Wow Tim I'm surprised I thought for sure that truck costs closer to 200K. Screw all the haters that's a nice ride and worth every penny. You live in the damn thing and it should be nice.
Doesnt matter what it costs, you were more than comfortable with what you wanted for a truck with the options etc and what the price was and you purchased your Pete, as for those who say it's too much , everyone has an opinion but your the owner and you paid what you wanted for it and your happy and that's all that matters cause at the end of the day no one is going to have his ass in the seat driving it but you. It's a very nice truck and you knew that you werent going to get prius fuel mileage but you knew that before you bought it and your fine with that, hell there are guys driving new and old trucks that are never going to be happy with their fuel mileage no how...lol Looks like you are going to enjoy it and by the looks of all the videos you have done since you bought the Pete and trips you have done seems like it is working well for you
another trucker here on UA-cam, indianajacktrucking, he uses an app to log his fuel at every fill up, it's not hard to keep records and after a few months you will have a pretty good idea what the average MPG is
It seems like yesterday when I saw you purchase your new truck. Beautiful and still awesome you keep it looking real and nice. Keep up with the videos and have a safe trip.
Hey Tim love your videos I drive a 379 it's only 280 wheelbase but I have her pimped out and keep her shined up hate to drive a dirty truck Keep it up Brother You The MAN
I am fixing to buy my first truck in 6 months to a year after my first experiences with trucking. I love trucking. I am buying a Peterbilt 389 from Tulsa Peterbilt. 605 horspower and 2050 torque.
Dodge truck, I heard that our local dealer sold one last spring for $92000.00 Can. Guys used to drive those 1 ton Chevys with a 454 and get 8 mpg. Great truck, great video. thanks.
Love the 389s, that is a beautiful machine. Except those headlights, good god. First thing I would do with a new 389 would be mounting a nice pair of double rounds. Probably take a small hit on mileage, but it'd be worth it.
Low to mid 6's for fuel mileage...not too bad for that rig. I have a brand new T-680 KW like the one next to your truck, and I am averaging low 7's with it right now, but I got mine with just under 2k miles on it, had to bob-tail 455 miles to get a trailer, ran around 10mpg. Right now, today, my KW still has less than 5k miles, and with a 35000 lb load, I am still in low 7's, but I run it easy. I hope to catch you out here one day, when I do, the coffee is on me brother. If you see a "spinnaker blue" 2018 KW pulling a "punkin' trailer", come knocking, we'll have a cuppa joe. Yeah, I'm rollin' around "punkin' truckin'". I paid about the same for my KW as you did for your better stylin' Pete.
I knew a couple that went out and bought an extended custom rig, bed, bathroom, kitchen,if an option was available, they had it.Was afraid to ask the price,I might pass out ! :)
Great answer. How much did it cost ? Answer - I tell you what it costs and some will say " I could have got one for $150,000 ! " Your answer -"Can you get a Peterbilt for $150,000 ? Probably. But you can't buy THIS Peterbilt for $150,000 !"........Perfect !
160 for a fully loaded Pete with an x15 is a very good deal... plastic cascadias and volvos are running what 130-140 , you'll still be going strong and looking good at a million miles... take a look at one of those plastic trucks with a million miles and see if you'd want it, if you run about 65 you'll get better mileage... don't know what the sweet spot is.. but most modern engines top gear at about 1200-1300 rpm is best mileage...i know it's hard not to keep it wound up and strolling but that will help and not idling.. an apu will help if you idle a lot.
Money can be saved several ways: 1.) Drive slower 2) Keep it longer, 3) progressive shifting, 4) good trip planning 5) don't idle too much, 6) coast into the stops 7) don't downshift too much, etc.
Nice truck. Thanks for the vid.
you will never get great fuel milage in a 389 and nobody will ever walk through a truck stop and drool over a Freightliner Cascadia
trucklover389 that's exactly right, might as well enjoy driving what your paying for because no matter what truck it is they cost and eat a lot
trucklover389 before you dog out freightliners. Go watch so cal video about these nice Peterbilts with Cummins and def fluid. I'll keep my prius
Life is Good. Good point. I keep hearing everyone say bad things at 300 k miles on the Cummins. But I guess it's worth the chance to ride nice.
Shay Earl that's about the life span before trouble hits on all dpf filters been there quite a few times my plan is trading before warranty is up from now on, just keep driving a new one it's cheaper that way
Plain and simple. If you were born with the heart and soul of a lifetime trucker, that's the truck you drive.
You will always be the happiest when you get what YOU want.
Your truck dirty, looks better than half of this trucks on the road when their clean. Top notch ride sir!!!!!
Heck, I'd say it looks better than ALL the trucks on the road, even dirty. That tractor trailer combo is just beautiful! True pride of ownership in that unit!
Resale value.
VERY VERY VERY Beautiful truck you have, Congrats, you deserve it
Thx for your videos. Nice to come across them w/o all the BS others are doing. You are keeping it real and about trucking.
Mike Mueller I have a few driving clips to upload once I figure out how to get rid of my background music and thank you, I'm just a normal real truck driver
I hate when people say why do want a pete, its horrible on fuel. I'm like because I want to look good rolling down the highway. lol
TwurkRR
RIGHT LOL
Oh yeah I know. I live in Mannheim. I miss the gas prices in the states. lol
+Oskar P Entenweich You do know that most that price is tax right?
TwurkRR ... Hell my buddy Adam has a 96 w900 gets 7.2 at 65mph
Marcel Nita. People did not want to ride around in a dirty truck. An example would be TMC transport. The driver have to keep their trucks clean
Your money, you can do whatever you want. I hate when people bash on other drivers rides that they take pride in.
Here in Spain, with a modern 13l engine, we are getting about 7,3 mpg's with a gross weight of 88 thousand lbs. By the way, what a wonderful truck. Great vids....cheers!

Don Leamon I recognize you from my favorite UA-cam channel the Jade and Jon show, so howdy
Greetings from Russia. Thank you for your channel. The tractor is magnificent! God bless you on the road.
Well Said!!!!!!!!!! you Speak exactly how i feel and think for years!!!! keep on Trucking!!!! Good Day Sir
such a bad ass tractor! I love that cream white color. It makes it have that touch of old school. Im fresh out of trucking school and this is what i dream of having. Worth every penny and anyone all the people saying you over paid are most likely jealous. Thanks for the great vids!
Chris Addison I wish you the best with your driving career, stay safe and enjoy the open road
I dream of one day driving a peterbilt in america. Congratulations on the videos I watch all !!! Hugs from Brazil.

You kind people I try to stay away, while driving. Cheap truck, cheap load, cheap market. Garbage living. Good luck and stay in Garbage.
That's a beautiful unit.
Good luck with it.

Peterbilt Steve does a damn fine job setting these trucks up right. Your truck is a rolling work of art, and I salute your choice. I’d definitely take it over that “Prius” any day. Safe travels Brother.

Love the color combo.
Great honest video as always You got what you want that is all that matters.
I loved my Pete's. Last one was a 1992. I barely got 5 mpg. Never was very good at mpg myself but I got it there quick. Made decent money, and had confort and class. Wow Tim I'm surprised I thought for sure that truck costs closer to 200K. Screw all the haters that's a nice ride and worth every penny. You live in the damn thing and it should be nice.
All I can say is you are living the dream sir good job
Thanks for the video. Great tour, sweet ride. Love those 389's.
It's a very nice truck and you knew that you werent going to get prius fuel mileage but you knew that before you bought it and your fine with that, hell there are guys driving new and old trucks that are never going to be happy with their fuel mileage no how...lol
Looks like you are going to enjoy it and by the looks of all the videos you have done since you bought the Pete and trips you have done seems like it is working well for you
It's not about miles per gallon It's about SMILES per gallon ✌🏼😎 awesome truck!!! Thanks to share!!!
Saw that Landstar had in your cabinet! That's a beautiful ride there BCO!
This might be my favorite video of yours I didn't buy this truck for fuel mileage big square box pulling a big square box love it
Dang! That is a beautiful machine. Congratulations sir. Good to see the American dream is alive and well. All Hail the Republic!
another trucker here on UA-cam, indianajacktrucking, he uses an app to log his fuel at every fill up, it's not hard to keep records and after a few months you will have a pretty good idea what the average MPG is
It seems like yesterday when I saw you purchase your new truck. Beautiful and still awesome you keep it looking real and nice. Keep up with the videos and have a safe trip.

Great truck, great video. thanks.
The most beautiful rig I have ever seen. I would buy that and take the hit on mpg any day.

Big beautiful chicken truck. Love it and thank you for the video. Stay safe driver :)
Love the 389s, that is a beautiful machine.
Except those headlights, good god. First thing I would do with a new 389 would be mounting a nice pair of double rounds. Probably take a small hit on mileage, but it'd be worth it.
EXCELLENT VIDEOS AND BEATIFUL..TRUCK..MR
Very good!
I paid about the same for my KW as you did for your better stylin' Pete.
a beautiful truck no matter how you look at it. congrats on you baby . and 6 isn't that bad on that.
Very nice truck. I'm thinking you own the trailer also? Maybe tell us some about that.
I will work on that one, Thanks for the input
Your videos look not only in America, but also from another continent ... friend
You are right. Europeans love the Petes! We all do. American truck with a long nose duel stack chromed out low visor Peterbilt.

Clean brother. Beautiful.
Great video. Thanks for the straight-up answers.
Conch Republic your welcome and thanks for watching
Is not a rig, is a bloody "lorry",,,😉👍🇺🇸
that truck sure is beautiful! enjoy it!
Man I wish my truck was as light as that. But I run flatbed so all the chains and storage box along with the herd bumper add up to a lot more weight.
For those looking for just weight he said its 21,700 before he moved in.
