Fun fact. The guy with the deep voice from the temptations is Rick James's Uncle.
Melvin Franklin
Rick James was a BEAST!
Just ask him ! Just kidding, but really. ✌❤😆
Rick James was the man when he came out “ please react to “Give To Me Baby”
What a strange, wonderful moment in history.
Rick wrote a song with Smokey Robinson Ebony Eyes and he wrote one for Eddie Murphy too!
"Party all the Time"! Love it.
i used to work in the motown building on sunset and vine in l.a. (it's been a while, and motown's offices have moved). they were going strong there in the early '80s, though, and i got pieces of that. once ran for the elevator on the street entrance level and JUST made it, and in the car was a very hassled looking woman and rick james. rick was leaning against the elevator wall opposite, and staring at me. it was a little unnerving, lol, and made even more so by his slow, unending slide down the wall to the elevator floor. when my floor came up, i gave the woman and rick a quick smile and ducked out, but the woman with him was literally in tears and said, "no! i mean ... will you please help me? i'm supposed to get him up there for a meeting at 10 (it was 9.45) and i can't even keep him standing." she was so harassed and just one inch away from total meltdown that i said, "ya, okay, sure," and she looked SO. RELIEVED. lol. so she gets on one side of him and i'm on the other and we do a 1-2-3 UP move, and got him standing just before the doors opened on the motown lobby. we kinda crab-walked him in there, and i head for some chairs where i thought we could plant him, and the woman with him was leaning behind him and saying to me, "no! no! i'll never be able to get him back up!" in seconds, though, the execs he was meeting with swooped into the lobby to take him away, and the woman gave me a grateful look and rick james stops in the doorway the suits were trying to push him through, and turned to me and asked, "are you one of the dancers?" and i know i looked confused and the poor woman said, "no, rick, let's just get to our meeting," and rick ignored her and said, "well, if you don't dance, i could still get you a spot in the video." and with that, they hustled him out of there, and my destiny as a video star did not happen, alas. lol.
Cool! It pays to be in LA
She owed you! 🤬
@@i.m.7710 damn straight! and you guys deserved prizes for actually reading all that!
He was the Super Freak ! So much confidence and talent.
I think you might've been hearing "Can't Touch This" in your head! lol
Please do Mary Jane 😎
This track is awesome never grows old I'm serious.
Smokey Robinson and Rick James “Ebony Eyes “
Great song🎼🎶🎤
This song made all of us super freaks proud! Thank you, Rick!💖
“Room 714, I’ll be waiting.”
Rick James was referencing the drug methaqualone or brand name Quaalude.
The drug was manufactured in the United States under the name Quaalude with the number 714 stamped on the tablet. Quaaludes became popular for recreational use in the late 1960s and 1970s in discos - where they were known as “disco biscuits” - and in juice bars.
It is a central nervous system depressant that acts as a sedative and hypnotic. Hypnotics are drugs that induce sleep.
Every time I hear this song, I'm 17, doing burnouts in the Winn Dixie parking lot in my 72 Mustang!
Great times those were! Thank you for this reaction...we're gonna have to dig some gems up for ya!
I swear those of us that grew up back then have similar memories. ✌❤
This song and the B-52’s “Love Shack” ALWAYS puts a smile on my face! What fun it must have been making this! RIP Rick……
The king of funk rock star mr Rick James you can still take this song and music to any disco club's and people will get up and dance the night away 🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃💃 super freaky
This song popped when I was a freshman in high school. The dances were really fun that year. When you're ready for more from Rick James, check out "Mary Jane" and "You and I" too.
Oh I loved me some Rick James!! Saw him 5 or 6 times . My favorite song was You and I. But of course Fire & Desire above all. The Asian girl in the video was a long time dancer on Soul Train.
Rick was one ☝️ of the Greats! Watch Dave Chappell imitate him. True stories tho
As a German boy I grew up with the Beatles and Pink Floyd, listening from the turntable of my older brother all day long. I never saw those video clip and didnt understood the lyriks. But i was hooked by funk music instantly hearing this at the age of 10 or so. Followed by Evelyn King´s "I´m in love" and the Gap Band´s "Burn Rubber" life was no longer the same and the journey begun. Thats the true power of music!
Let's not forget that MC Hammer sampled this song and used it in his hit song "Can't Touch This." Check it out and see (hear) for yourself.
Oh lord goodness! The king forever, my jams!!
Woo hoo!! Your arse must move when this song comes on!! He was so badass back in the day! From the way he dressed to the songs!!
Please react to Rick James's Busting Out! It is my favorite by him. It is so so so funky!
Rick James was bout that life. 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤. Please react to "Mary Jane" by Rick James. Yes, nephew "Mary Jane" is Marijuana 🚭
Hammer sampled this classic with Cant Touch This!
MC Hammer was sued because he copied it with CAN’T TOUCH THIS 🎼
And he effectively credited Rick James name on his song, along with millions of dollars 💸
@@sojournerkarunatruth4406 Rick James sold it to hammer for $50,000 upfront.
That’s what I heard.
You should check another Rick James, "Give It To Me Baby."
Thanks for the reactions! Try Carly Simon’s “You Belong To Me” sometime, can’t find any reactor who has done it yet but it’s my favorite of her hits.
Make sure it’s studio version please and thank you.
Ghetto Life is my favorite!! Oh and Mary Jane! Rick's guitar solo in Mary Jane is Everything!!!!
This guy had a bad rep and was convicted of his crimes. I remember.. He was the "Super Freak" Not once but twice. He was Super Freaky!
Brotha, you get it. Go get a electric guitar and bring back the Rock n Soul music. Someone gotta do it.
Lol! Love this ❤ great performance!
“Hey hey hey hey!!”
Hello from a very far place, I don't know if you read this, but I've discovered your channel not long ago, and I've been watching your reactions...it's been really fun. I love your videos, thanks for giving us these good moments.
Bro I know you know this is the music that MC Hammer used in "U can't Touch This."
Rick pushed the button back then Mary Jane super freak
M C Hammer has a song called U Can't Touch This that also has this melody and beat give that a listen as well
MC Hammer sampled this song in "Can't touch this!"
You are thinking about "Can't Touch This" when you say it is in a lot of movies. I am sure that is the song that you heard, not this one. It completely "samples" (a.k.a, rips off) the hook.
Hammer Time
MC HAMMER "CANT TOUCH THIS" USED THIS BEAT
Rick James - Mary Jane
Zapp Band - Computer Love
In the ghetto - Rick James
#NoLimitNation! 🔥
You should definitely do "Square Biz" by *Teena Marie* . Her voice is exquisite and she worked extensively with Rick James!
👊🏾💪🏾😎
Rick James R.I.P
Hammertime!
U can’t touch this. RJ is a boss.
Rick wrote Ebony Eyes and also a song for Eddie Murphy
Watch some old Soul Train videos and you will see the young lady with the very long hair on them. She was a regular on the show.
Soulll train. God I miss it.
If you heard MC Hammer's song "You Can't Touch This"..it's the same beat
Watch the end scene of little miss sunshine!! This song plays and its hilarious!!!
Dude EVERY! beat you ever listened to in hip hop ,or rap or whatever it's called came from music artist of the 70's and 80's primarily and maybe some 90's! Bet your bottom dollar they sampled the hell out our music!
You may actually be thinking of Cant touch this by MC Hammer since he literally stole this sample. The was lengthy lawsuit where Rick James was awarded songwriter credit and received royalties
Try,. Eddie Murphy. ( My girl likes to party all the time ) it has Rick James in it. It's a great song.💞💞🔥🔥🔥🔥
M.C. Hammer used James's hook.

MC Hammer was such an obvious crook ripping off this song that when he won his Grammy for "Can't Touch This" the Grammy committee gave Rick James a Grammy for co-author.
I love him, this, in my opinion, is about prostitution.
