Hey Man, good stuff. Does Farrar have a child? It would be great to see the kids play some Uncle Tupelo stuff. (The greatest band ever) So much talent in that band. But Sammy, you sound great, man
I loved this particular segment of the Tweedy Show. Sammy’s voice fits the Replacements perfectly, and it’s so cool to watch the easy musical communication between father and son toward the end of Bastards of Young. Thanks, Tweedys!
Wow. Great versions Tweedies. Been reading TROUBLE BOYS and have just past the recording of Let It Be. Feeling very glad that I got to see them play 2 nights at the Roundhouse, London in 2015. Gutted I never saw Uncle Tupelo. I did get to speak with Jay last year when he was over in the UK on holiday and he sat in on a Peter Bruntnell gig. Wish I could've seen Jeff play the guitar for this one.
I like that that his shirt and hair are pretty damn close to Paul's on the SNL performance of Bastards of Young.
I'll be that guy to point out the lyric is actually "Wait on the sons of no one" not "We are the sons of no one" -- though I think even Paul eventually started singing it this way at times.
He also sings "You got no war to name us". I always thought it was "You got no warrant to name us".
I don't think any of the 'Mats albums came with lyric transcriptions in the liner notes and Paul would regularly sing different words live. I'm sure the line in Valentine is "Hey you pop in some place / so sick and so *divine* " but I regularly see it transcribed as "and so *refined* ..."
@@sam_rowan There are pictures of Westerberg's work-in-progress lyrics for Here Comes a Regular scribbled in a notebook, but they're _very_ impressionistic; not even a first draft, more just vague ideas.
I will go to Wilco. Funny People scare me, now. A song for the ages, 16 and up. Excellent
Beautiful covers of classics.
I love this performance. Sammy has a great voice and vocal range (not surprised!). Best wishes for Chanukah!
I always subconsciously categorized Jeff's bands with The Mats in my mind. This makes perfect sense to my ears
