I have never had any success with root cuttings. Went for a walk after watching your video I repotted a Chinese elm a few weeks ago took a root cutting and other cuttings off the tree I just about gave up on them. Guess what they are all shooting. The root cutting is about the same size as yours
That’s very cool let it grow long then cut it back hard and let the next bud grow and good luck.
Great video Jeff, how long did it take to shoot from the root? Been 6 weeks and I have no shoots yet from my root cuttings. But there is some new little bumps which I’m hopeful for.
It took about 5 weeks and if yours is showing bumps then they should be shoots,if not try again.
Do the root cuttings ever bud from the root/now the trunk once they're established?
I have one from aldi and so far it never has. Been quite curious if it's possible!
Katy they do bud from the roots especially if the roots are close to the surface.
