The Perfect Boot? Nicks Urban Logger

  • The perfect boot. It's a bold statement, and one which will be different for everyone. My perfect boot can pull duty on the job site, in the office, on a hike, or on a motorcycle - a boot that can stick with me throughout the day. My favorite articles of clothing are the ones I can don in the morning and not have to worry about until I take them off at the end of the day.
The Urban Logger boots aren't a dress boot, and they're not a hardcore work boot, what they are is a combination of my favorite parts of each. A dressed-up upper in a beautiful waxed flesh, adding a level of sophistication normally reserved for much more formal footwear. Underneath that is everything I've come to expect from Nicks with their four-layer oak tanned sole, an aggressive V100 Vibram sole, and woodsman heel. This is like a Range Rover sitting on mudders, with the capability to scale a mountain and look damn good doing it.
So is the Nicks Urban Logger the perfect boot? I want to get some more time in them before I can make such a declaration, but they're the closest yet!

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

I just ordered mine today! I am on a work trip for a site visit in Idaho, but we had a flight into Spokane. I went into the store, got sized and then did a custom order. I basically got these boots but with no pull tab, and a 4 row cap toe. I am so excited to get them. Thanks for all the videos of them, they really helped me.

I am so glad you made this vide since you must be one of the main reasons (next to Nicks quality and style) that the boot is still around. During covid people most likely weren't really thinking about new boots, so you bringing this model to light had to have helped a lot and I want to thank you for that. Lately I've been looking for the perfect looking and built boot for my taste and the Urban Logger is just perfect. Hell their site even says "Best seller".

Carl, I'd appreciate it if you could review the Thursday Boot version of the logger, which they introduced very recently. It resembles the Nicks boots reviewed here, but the Thursday version seems just a bit dressier. (And taller.) It really looks like the boot you'd wear if you plan to spend your day wrestling a Sasquatch, followed by a visit to that uptown restaurant where they pair Magret de Canard with the perfect Pinot Noir. It doesn't have the traditional logger tongue protector-thingie and the heel is 1 1/2 inches, as opposed to 2 inches.

I have a pair of White's 350 Cruisers on the way. But once I get recovered from that financially I'm going to get a Nick's boot as well. I am a Red Wing guy (I love their boots and they've served me very well). That being said I'm interested to see how much better White's and Nick's are quality wise. Honestly it's probably overkill for me as again my Red Wings have always done me right. But I love boots and logically? White's/Nicks are the next step. I trust you and Rose Anvil so hopefully they are worth the price. They are almost twice as expensive as my Moc Toe boots and my Blacksmiths. That's a lot more money. But from what I hear, it's a lot more boot. We'll see.

Agree with your take on RW's. FANTASTIC BOOTS, but the speed hooks are crap and that flat insole is hard on the feet for long periods. Nicks, Whites, Wescos - they do it right. A layered arch allows the foot to rest more comfortably and is easier on your feet at the end of the day. Helps you posture too.

Hi Carl, I m a little confused about the urban logger and the Roberts, it’s there any different in the shape of the boots? Apart from the customisable options? I see the outsole options is different, the top style is only customisable on robert, and the heel style is customisable on urban logger, but the toe shape and stitch is pretty identical to me, do you know if I might have missed something?

That sole is what Wildland Firefighters/ Smokejumpers use all day! When you’re standing on burnt ground those screws will keep the sole from melting away from the rest of your boot! @@jamesclaysmith9497 I like a lot of arch support. The problem most people have is the high heal. I prefer the Franks type 1. I would rank quality Franks, Nicks and then Whites. I have had quite a few Whites and the quality is not there anymore. These style of boots are not for everyone though. They are heavy and not very flexible but there are tough. Get rough out lower for abrasion resistance.

Even though I retuned my Presidents boots due to QC and didn’t purchase a pair , I will say that Thursday boots are some damn good looking boots. I wished they didn’t have those few negative factors like the inner sole bunching up at the heel and the leather scuffing up too easily I would purchase a pair.

Nothing wrong with having more then one pair of shoes these days , well until the crash of 1920......sorry 2020. lol
I would hate to jog in these boots. I would like to strut in them like John Travolta though , especially if I won a dance contest in them.
For work I like a flat bottom boot, keeps me more grounded & no heal to catch on everything .

They're nice, but something about the super rugged outsole combined with the more dressy upper doesn't work for me. I think they'd look amazing with some Dainite soles or something like that, even though I know that is defeating the whole purpose of the boot.

Hey man you should to a review on some Corcoran boots, well I say should but it’s your choice, I would love to hear your opinion on them, they are awesome boots in my opinion, they also have them in a “historic brown” leather, they say historic cause Corcoran made the original jump boots that were used by paratroopers in ww2, but I’ve had mine for ages and I remember the day I got them, they molded to my feet perfectly, though they are made to fit most people, I’d hope they’d fit you as well, they fit really well once you’ve worn them for a while and when they’ve been spot shined to perfection they are absolutely beautiful, though you will more than likely get them in with some scuffs on them, it’s no harm done you can just spit shine over the scuff and it’ll be like it was never there, no biggie.

Wyatt H.J. I’ve had several sets of Corcoran jump boots over the years, and they are a pretty cheap boot. They last about a year for me, with motorcycle riding, and the leather cracks and outright holes on either end of the vamp develop within a year. They shine up easily because they are made from “corrected grain” leather which has a plastic coating. I can thank these boots for putting me on to better boots, IE Iron Rangers. I have never looked back and will never buy a cheap boot again. They look cool though, I will give them that. I still have my last pair, and I wear them if I want to do truly dirty work like cleaning out the garage, or if I want to scare my daughter’s boyfriend. Your mileage may vary.

Dr Zaius I’ve had mine going on three years now and there aren’t any holes or cracked leather, there is no issue with mine, but I take care of them on the daily, so that may play a part in it, but they’re the best pair of boots I’ve had and no issues what so ever

      @drzaius844 4 роки тому

@@wyatth.j.1661 well that's cool, I'm glad you are having a good experience with them. Makes me curious now how they would get reviewed. Generally a $108 boot will not perform well, and they sure didn't for me, but it would be fun to see Carl put them through the paces. Short term, they work great, the "leather" is as shiny as a piece of plastic laminate LOL and the toe cap is definitely crush resistant to a pretty good extent - I had someone drop a pallet on my toe, a heavy one made of hardwood, with no damage to my foot. They have value, but as far as longevity, it just isn't in a class with the other boots Carl reviews, IMO.

The screws actually help the boot mold to your foot. They lock into the flesh of your foot and dig through into the metatarsals and calcaneus. Hurts a little bit at first, but before you know it, they’re like slippers.
