ADU Aquascaping Dragon stone...? Is that not lava rock?
Mixed feelings watching the tear down of such a beautiful aquascape that you had going for so long. Thankfully it will live on in video form now, forever more. A new Chapter begins. Great video again Master Dave.
+colinbarsby someday I will make Amano proud. Thanks
The hardscape and plants you chose for this were perfect-stunning results!
+The AmateurAquarist Thanks for watching and thanks for not bringing drama to my channel. You are true subscriber.
This is now one of my favourite tanks of the year!
Btw do you think java moss will work too?
Yisan Cheong thanks, it does but grows less dense in low tech
I found you today and I'm really impressed with the beauty of your tanks! Congratulations and I'll research more about aquascaping because I like it more and more!
+Almarma Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have any questions.
and i thought your previous one are brilliant! this one was by far the most epic!
+ichisuke 03 haha! Thanks for the kind words. We will have to wait and see how it transforms. I will probably make adjustments, which I already have, and the tank will get really round, soft, and green!
Super nice scape, man. Excited to see this mature!
+TWK Aquascaping Thanks man.
i live in iceland and i gotta hand it too ya, the moss and the volcanic rock is on point, good job man :D
+Aron Mar Hahaha! Yes! That means a lot, of course it is still just an artists interpretation. But hopefully I can get the microsword to look like little tufts of grass around the moss hills, and just wait for it to fill in! Thanks for watching.
Beautifully done. I like the source of inspiration, you nailed that look. Can't wait for the update.
Wow I hadn't seen this one yet Dave. Great job... Inspired me to do a re-scape. I need to achieve more height on my next scape, going to use lots of egg crate!
Again, great job. This is on another level.
-MG
+Michael Gumm Get out the crate man, or you can use lava rubble from a garden shop to achieve height as well as helping to hold up steep slopes of substrate or sand.
At first I was like "but why?" and then "WOW".
Awesome ,awesome SKAPE!
Beautiful scape. Love it.
The new scape reminds me of a marine macroalgae tank. Can't wait to see it grow in
WOW!!
Beautiful Dave...thanks for sharing.
Love the great tips in the video too!!
Looks sick! Great job super technical and detailed. Thanks for sharing the break down. Neat to see how others do it.
+frrok1 Thanks man. I actually just replaced the wood with brown aged wood and made the placement more subtle. Already the energy is way better. The wood was kind of bugging me. And once it fills in the scape will become taller and the canyon will become more narrow. Thanks for the support man. Your new scape looks pretty sweet too. But your tank is so nice! I talked to the importer and he said he is going to bring a new batch in from China so hopefully the price goes back down.
Great scape as always
+Aqua Novice Thanks for watching, am glad you like the scape.
its like im looking in to those mountains
Beautiful!
Very nice Dave. It's Beutiful.
wow.... very nice Dave you got some skills man
+Luis Q. Thanks man, any new setups or what man?
Yes thanks for asking Dave I'm currently working on building or should I say finishing up a the stand and canopy for the new 135 but currently I have my old 75 gal set up and a Mr aqua 12 gal planted with some CRS dealing with staghorn algae in the 12 gal just can't bare to put up a video with the algae in it.
Luis Q. sounds like a huge amazonia tank? And are you making the tank too? I still would love to make a low-iron glass tank. What every happened to the last scape from last year?
+ADU Aquascaping ya something along those lines Amazonia maybe and unfortunately I don't have the skills to build the tank I purchased it from a builder out in California and I forgot the name of the company.
well that tank was torn down well at least the scape was I ran out of room for it in my place and had to make a decision get a bigger tank or keep the 30 cube.
the tank is at my lfs set up and running it's still my tank it's just setup as a display tank I'll have to get some videos up of that tank it looks pretty good imo.
yeah let's see it, and your LFS!
Holy moly! you tear it down! but it's looking awesome! nice video.
wow man you really are one of the best aquascapers out there today. Rivaling the man Amano himself lol. Really tho i love your videos you inspire a lot of what i do in my tanks keep up the good work!
+Mark Morgan Hahaha, Just for saying that Amano will probably come to your house on Christmas and smash your tank! That is blasphemy to the Amano God! LOL Thanks man and thanks for watching. The scape should fill in nicely.
Hey i would be ok with telling people the ghost of Takashi Amano came and smashed my tank in lol i feel like that would be an honor.
+Mark Morgan I don't want to get too creepy, but if he possessed you that would probably be considered a blessing. haha
as promised nice video again rlly nice setup thanks
how big is the tank and what led light are you using?
+Aimane Chouhaibi Thanks for watching and thanks for not bringing drama to my channel. You are true subscriber.
+Aimane Chouhaibi it is a 40 gallon breeder. 151 liters. I am using the AquaticLife Halo LED.
it looks very good!
+Oscar Segundo Thanks man. added some more sand and now seems to have more depth along the trails.
Really Amazing!😱❤
Very nice!
Great video & the new scape is epic!
This is a true work of art!
Sad to see the tear down, that was a really nice tank. But this new one will be even better! :0
Love it! So awesome!
It's a Christmas Miracle!! OK so I'll admit it "You got serious skill" Looks very natural and clean..
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Dave!
+Pauls Planted Aquariums thanks man
wow man really nice video
+RM Fish Aquatics Thanks glad you liked the vid. The tank will fill in nicely and get even crazier! Stay tuned...
pretty sweet man great vid.!!
+Jerry Ray Thanks for watching and thanks for not bringing drama to my channel. You are true subscriber.
Never man I'm a peace keeper
Your very helpful man Thx for the vids!!!
+Jerry Ray haha, I am just messing around. I have dry humor. :P
+ADU Aquascaping aw man every vid I've watched u have a straight face with a little smirk!! lol
Really enjoyed the video and I got some nice tips. Makes me want to redo my tanks :D Or get another haha
+Lazy Weasel Glad you liked it.
Very nice Dave. Looks amazing.
+MASS Aquariums Thanks Dingus.
Stunning!!!
Flott. I do the same. Dragon stone and moss. Though interestingly i was inspired by the mountains of north vietnam and the jungle there. Interesting since i live in iceland! :D lol
haha, that is weird! I live in the desert of Utah! haha
Sveinn Sigurður haha hvernig gerirðu viatnam fjöll með dragon stone?
Wow Dave you got inspired on this one.
Rock formations are so well done they look like a natural formation.
The layering adds loads of depth to the scape.
And i am afraid i just lost that tittle of trail master you gave me.
the paths you made in this scape look flawless.
And the planting is just perfect, you just planted this thing i am assuming and it looks like its been grown in for ages.
Well done i always love your aquascapes as they are all impressive.
But i really like this one.
+AQUADESIGN by aquamaniac Thanks for the great compliments man. I am glad you like it. I just had to go nuts on this scape.
I actually just replaced the wood with brown aged wood and made the placement more subtle. And guess what!? The energy is way better now. The wood was kind of bugging me, and some subscribers commented on it too. So, I went ahead and changed it up, and it worked out a lot better. The scape is overall better now. Just wait for it to fill in some more. The top of the scape will get taller and the canyon will become more narrow. Thanks man.
Nice keep up the Great work
Nice!
Amazing.
nice, the fish size complement the overall scape
awesome!
Loved this video, it was very detailed and information packed!
+Home Aquatics Thanks for watching and thanks for not bringing drama to my channel. You are true subscriber.
+ADU Aquascaping Why would I bring drama to the channel? I'm a huge supporter of other hobbyists.
haha, I am just messing around. I have dry humor.
Haha, gotcha! Making sure I didn't offend anyone lol
Love the new scape :) looks amazing! I haven't done a planted tank without ADA soil or similar-could you let us know how you're keeping things growing? CO2, ferts etc?
+Luke Jarrett I do have CO2 at 2 pbs and am using Halo LEDs at 55% of full power and minimally dose ferts to the water column. There is no soil or substrate in this tank just sand and rock.
Good work man! I really like it!
+Brian's Fish Tanks Thanks man, added some more sand to the trails and it helped with the depth, looking pretty sweet at the moment.
Gotta say, the new scape looks incredible. I'm excited to see it grow out. Do you have any plans to make another tank with the traditional stems and rosettes?
+Brandon C. I wish, right now I am farming the plants from the last scape.
Great work ... i like it.
+Aqua'Nico thanks
Awesome scape man! absolutely beautiful. Its a shame that your camera died during the hardscape build I would've loved to see how you built it
+Xxkilluminati91xX yeah it sucks, but really I just do it how Amano does it. The rocks are all free standing and you just have to have patience and make sure that each rock you stack up is supported and stabilized by other rocks. It does get easier the more you do it. And if you have had African Cichlid tanks it does help in mastering this skill. And lava rock tends to fit and mesh together with itself quite well, so it fits nicely and looks like one solid piece. This isn't always the case for other types of rocks. Thanks for watching.
i dig it man! very inspirational
+shizdank Thanks man. I just replaced the wood with aged brown wood and made the placement of
the wood a lot more subtle, and guess what!? The energy is way better! Glad you like it man. Once it fills in it will get taller and the canyon will get more narrow.
My god that rescape is just out of this world! Well done !!
What are the small yellow and black striped fish called?
+fjeppesen Hahaha, thanks for the kind words. Yes, it should fill in nicely, just wait it will get even crazier! They are bumblebee gobies, they are brackish, but they can tolerate a lot of different water parameters.
Greate aquascape :)
Great work! And very good tutorial.
greetz BD
+BD Aquascaping Thanks man, I have made a lot of changes to the tank since I filmed this. It is looking a lot better with a full foreground and more depth in the background. Thanks for watching dude. Any new scapes at your place?
+ADU Aquascaping Hi, hope to see the changes soon. :)
Yes of course, in the next days i start a new Project.
Stay tuned.
greetz BD
love the new scape . how long out took you to do everything
+Mark Abeja About 3 days to complete and filled in in about 2 weeks. Looking pretty sweet right now.
fantastic! do you still sell the aquascaping stones? if so what's the best way to get a hold of you?
The new scape is amazing looking!
I have a dumb question - what were you using to glue the moss to the rocks? Did I miss something and these are not live plants? Can we use a glue for live plants? Sorry that is 3 questions... o.O
He's using loctite superglue. Many aquarists use superglue to attach live plants and it's completely fish safe.
+Kathy Lynn Maracle Yeah it is the Loctite super glue gel. It is Cyanoacrylate- the same compound that Seachem uses, and can be used underwater.
+Agr414 I love using it. Works like a charm.
hey dave i've been following your video since I start this hobby, that hardscape really rocks. By the way how did you put all the rocks to make it look like that, thanks
+Justine John Booc THanks, yes this is probably about 100+ separate rocks that I stacked to look like this. They are just balanced and free floating. I just stand right in front of the tank and make sure that the lines are even and look natural. Also, lava rock tends to stick together quite well, so the rocks hold their shape because they are so jagged.
Wow
+charlie merry Thanks, the tank should fill in nicely. It looks mature already, but will get even more crazy!
Your new scape looks awesome. I'm not a really a fan of blueish backgrounds though, I think its a bit distracting. Those roots would probably look perfect once they've darkened a bit. Btw what did you use to stick the lava rock together?
+Flying Dutchman I don't like it either for this tank, but it looks good when using a lot of red plants. I didn't use anything other than balance and gravity. You just have to go slow, but the lava sticks together easier than other rocks.
Great video. I dont think anyone would mind if you make your videos a little longer. :)
+Jurassics some people might, haha. My cinematic videos always get more dislikes. Some people just want information and not art.
You should show of all your tanks in one video
+Carter Neal This is my only tank currently. I am busy with full time school and don't have the resources or time for more scapes. Just one main scape is enough for me right now. I hadn't rescaped this tank in over 21 months, so it was time. Thanks for watching.
Hallo Dave, what a wonderful Scape you did! Its just perfect. I`m whatching your channel since I have my own aquarium and your Tips helped me out a lot. I have a question, I have a Scape with tons of Plants and a Nymphoides Hygrophila Taiwan. A few weeks ago I cutted down some of the big leaves and now the leaves are getting glassy and dye. I don`t what to do. Do you know these plants? Is that normal?
+Dorit Brockmeier could just be from the shock of the big leaves being cut. is it doing better now? have the smaller leaves gotten bigger, or did the plant die?
+ADU Aquascaping No, the plant did not die, I'm happy to say that it's growing better than ever. I made two of them last week when rescaping my aquarium, and both Hygrophilas are doing well. It could have been the shock, I think. It's a really easy plant, but it needs Fe and a regular Amount of Nutrients, then you will have fun with her.
very nice!!! and pleas song name?
+Achmed Dzokonda I think it is called Eureka. Just some random song I downloaded a while back, and thanks for watching.
Can you please list the equipment/flora and fauna in the description? It really helps us - I find myself, trying to watch the video, pausing, to write stuff down and miss a lot. Thanks :)
Shahriar Farkhan Mini pellia, Monte Carlo, Micro sword, fissidens moss, Java moss, hydro sp. Japan
Thank you! :)
Where did you get those rocks? Did you buy them in one piece?
Well, for one, I like the new scape...cool man.
And it is also evident that your head didn't explode from all of the school work...does your enlarged brain still fit into your skull? lol
Hurry, you only have a few remaining days to party before the next term begins.
Party on dude. 🎉🎄🎸🍻💃
Good Move !!
What kind of rock did you used?
You must be watched Shield Agent S2, Their have some kind of red rots like this?
+Tung Walker Actually I am not familiar with that show, I guess just a crazy coincidence. Thanks for watching
Dave, where do you get your ada substrate from? Can't find anything but amazonia
Hey, do you ever sell your plants? I'm in SLC. If so, what's available?
+Shige Onda I just started farming plants from my last setup, but they won't be ready for a few months. You can go to Animal Ark in Orem on State Street and they have tons of plants. My buddy Mike is the manager.
had to pause a few minutes in to figure out what those white brinks boxes were on your power strip? are they wifi timers?
And the new scape is fantastic. My favourite by you, hands down. Definitely using it as inspiration for my 90p.
+AquaScapeGoat TV Just cheap timers from Wal-Mart. Thanks, yes this scape should turn out to be one of my favorites too. Thanks for watching and am glad you like it.
Great job Dave. Did all that moss come out the tear down?
+pittbully13 Yeah it actually did. Crazy. Thanks man, added some more sand to the trails and helped create more depth and added some more rocks. Any new tanks?
yeah I'm going to set up a 10g for a "how to" series and going to do a wabi kusa with an ECO Ball that Joey Yung Aquariums sent me to test.
Right on, that should be fun. Those ECO things do look pretty dang cool.
Yeah come over to check it out.
Its awesome. So I`m on something like this too. You're sure its dragon stone? To me it looks like lava stones.
Tom Bend It is ADU Dragon Stone, which is Basalt lava rock. It is not Ohko Stone. So you are correct.
tell me please
How are called the plants (moss), which you are stuck on the rocks
Sorry for my English, I write through Google transliteration
+Добрый Дядя Лёша Riccardia chamedryfolia - Mini Pellia.
+ADU Aquascaping
Another question
1.Only one species?
The video shows light and dark moss
2.We have for sale there is only glue Loctite 454
Tell me, is the same glue?
3.You put the glue on the wet stone or dry?
Thank you
One plant is Riccardia and the other is Fissidens moss. You just want to make sure it is Cyanoacrylate based super glue. You can put it on wet or dry stone, or underwater.
nice :)
niceeeee i wish i could do that but I made a bad choice in fish ... i wanted movement in the tank so i went with barbs but now im doomed i can't put any moss cuz they tear up every inch these things are always hungry ... i got no choice but to wait kinda sucks lol
Hey Dave, I am planning a rescape as well, and some of the plants have algae on them. Do you discard ALL leaves with algae or can you soak them in something during the setup that will help kill the algae so they don't transfer it into the new tank? Or is there another way?
+Matthew Kluczinske You can take the plant and spray it down with hydrogen peroxide or Excel and then rinse after a few minutes. If the algae is bad I just cut the leaves.
WOW!!! Cool INTRO!!!!
Where did you get that???
I want to make one like that for my youtube channel...
Cool music in the video to... we got to talk.... :)
You are getting really good...
Question sir!!
Ok, so I am starting my 4th real planted tank, I had 2 smaller ones before, so technically my 6th tank, 4 planted... and 2 of them miracle grow...
So, I have a miracle grow tank 7 days old right now.
I used filter floss with tons of bacteria from my 29 gallon tank that was in that filter at least for 6 to 8 weeks... I used some water from that tank to put into the new tank and put a few handfuls of gravel from that tank into my new tank...
I'm making this tank for my German Blue Rams. They are trying to breed but the other fish keep eating the eggs... So this new tank is for them...
Although I have read a lot, watched a lot of videos and have had some real life experience with the Nitrogen Cycle, I still hear conflicting advice on how to start the tank for the fish... I just read some more on it tonight...
Most people say to set up the tank and wait 4 weeks to 6 weeks before putting any fish in so the cycle can complete... Now a guy I really respect because he is a planted fish tank FREAK!!! Been in the hobby for over 15 years, has 4 Awesome 55 gallon planted tanks at home and is the manager at our local fish store and he has helped me a ton with great advice...
So my tank is 7 days with water in it, water and filter floss loaded with bacteria and gravel from my 2 year old 29 gallon tank... And I am adding in Microbe Lift special Blend every night. He told me to put in 2 or 3 fish to kick start the Nitrogen cycle... He said he would do it after 3 or 4 days... So I did it today or technically yesterday the 7th day and left them in their for 20 hours. But the ammonia was 1.5 to 2.0. So I did a small water change and it came down to 0.75. And I added some Ammonia stuff to help the fish... but it stayed at 0.75 for 6 hours.
So I took them out because they were hiding and darting around in an unusual way.
So my question is, how do you start the Nitrogen cycle? Just leave the tank alone for 30 days then add fish? Or Do you put fish in there that fast to kick start it faster? Is 7 days too early or will it help with the Nitrogen Cycle? In other words, am I sacrificing my Cherry Barbs?
Remember, I did add filter floss that was loaded with Bacteria and some gravel with bacteria, water, microbe lift ever night now, etc...
P.H. is 6.7 or 6.8
I did take the Cherry Barbs out about an hour ago, and I am thinking of waiting a few more days and putting the fish, Cherry Barbs Back in there...
Any advice?
+Mike Kollin it is best to used media from a filter that is already cycled. Or you can add small bits of fish food to the tank in the first week, just a little bit on the first day or so. And wait for 3 weeks. Just get a test kit and check that there are no nitrites or ammonia after 3 weeks. It is best to cycle without fish as it will cause stress on the fish and can kill them.
You are not going to believe this... the new tank I started... I put in 2 cherry barbs for 20 hours to kick start the ammonia... then took them out... I added fish food a few times.. and I also added ammonia at least 4 times or more over 16 days... The ammonia spiked massively, then the nitrites spiked, etc... I did use media from my other tank... on day 16, I noticed more than 12 baby fish swimming around... so far, not sure what they are... possibly Cherry Barbs. They survived the ammonia from the bottle and the spikes!
it can happen. I once had a firemouth cichlid survive 90 degree water when my heater malfunctioned.
:)
where can one find some dragon stone in the great state of Utah?
any co2 on this?
+Kevin Beckford Yes, I am running a 5lb cylinder at around 2-3 bps. Thanks for watching. I am using an inline CO2 diffuser.
What are those rocks with those plants on i
+Justgame ForeverTeam It is Basalt lava a type of rock that I sell called ADU Dragon Stone.
The driftwood running across stones doesn't work for me, otherwise looking awesome .
Also, Why not keep the other tank? I would have put it next to it and have two good scapes side by side
Great job
+BolivianFishKeeper I agree, I have mixed feelings about the wood, but the tank seemed bare without it. I may try putting some moss onto the wood to soften it up a bit, and it will add more shadow beneath. I am also hoping that the color will fade.
Well, that takes a lot of money and more time. With full time school and everything one main tank is enough.
Thanks for watching.
+BolivianFishKeeper I just replaced the wood with aged brown wood and made the placement of
the wood a lot more subtle, and guess what!? The energy is way better!
We both knew it was off, thanks for the feedback.
Dave just asking can i sup the Kno3 with any other diy type ?
+Listat De Lioncourt you can use all DIY if you want by purchasing dry fertilizers. The buffer, the magnesium, calcium, etc...
where do you get the riccardia chardemypholia from and the rocks?
I bought it from my local fish shop. You may be able to find some on the aqua forest aquarium website.
thanks
what is kind of moss which live on your stone bro..?
It is Riccardia, also known as Mini Pellia
thank you brother...
What light do you use?
+booyadee I am using two AquaticLife Halo LEDs. A deluxe model daisy chained to a basic model, which it then controls.
I think its impossible for you to make a tank that looks bad. Keep up the good work!
+Molon Labe thanks, it is looking stellar right now, and added some more sand to the trails to enhance the depth. Thanks for watching .
What is the name of these rocks sir?
Renan Ogiwara basalt lava rock
thank you sir
what type of glue are you using?
+LY O It is Loctite super glue gel, Cyanoacrylate.
+ADU Aquascaping Thanks.
I don't know if I like the scape, I think it looks good, but the red wood not to much, I feel it takes away from your scape, it drew my eye straight to it, and away from your hard scape. Not my fav, but it is still a great scape. Saying that theres lots of Amno scapes I dont like either. All that matters is what you think about it, its your scape and you have to look at it daily. Just my opinion. Im sure it will transform nicely as it grows. I look forward to seeing more of your scape ideas, keep up the great wrk :) keep your sleeves wet lol, Merry Christmas
+jeremiemcd That's fine, I also have mixed feelings about the wood. It seemed too bare without the wood, but the pieces may be too thick, and I am hoping the color will fade in time. I may replace with smaller pieces, or put moss on the wood to soften it. But as far as the hardscape goes... I love it! Also, as the mosses grow the scape will get taller and the canyon will become more narrow. Merry Christmas.
+jeremiemcd I just replaced the wood with aged brown wood and made the placement of the wood a lot more subtle, and guess what!? The energy is way better! We both knew it was off, thanks for the feedback.
what is the size of your tank?
memo this tank was a 40 gallon
make a vid on bumble bee gobies plz
+Eric Brookhouser haha, I don't know enough about them. Only some of mine are staying alive.
how big is your tank?
+JR Galore It is a 40 gallon breeder, 151 liters. Thanks for watching.
+ADU Aquascaping Thanks. I'm thinking of getting a planted fish tank, I already have some small planted tanks (10 gal.+) with angelfish, loaches, catfish, pencilfish, bettas, danios, cichlids, dwarf frogs, and more.
+JR Galore do it! You will love the hobby.
+ADU Aquascaping Just got a 30 gallon breeder fish tank from my neighbor for free and might get a 75 gallon in the next 6 months. I am soon to make it planted but waiting for my LFS to get some more java moss because the first day they get it in, the next day there is none left. I am also waiting for the water to go down at my grandma's so I can retrieve some driftwood.
+ADU Aquascaping Also when I'm done all of that I will make a new video of it. And the transformation from the day I got it to when it is planted.
By the way, still want to get that rock from you.. just couldn't come up with a good enough excuse for why I would be spending money on a box of rocks right before Christmas.. B-) I'll get in touch with you after the first of the year.
need info on the music lol
Hey dave, do you have a facebook account? I wish you could join Planted Tank Centre in facebook group. We need people like you. There's 5k members in that group, very enthusiast with aquarium. You could advise everyone and share your work with everyone. And you could post your videos and tutorial and tip. I'm one of your biggest fan hey.
+ichisuke 03 I don't use Facebook anymore. I had people hack into my account and get into my email and into my Amazon account because of it. I may use it in the future.
other than the red wood and the sand its kinda icelandic, ps i live in Iceland
Donald Trump haha, thanks. Yeah took the wood out first thing. Didn't like it. Yeah just a representation of it. Check out my later video of this setup. It was around a month or so. And in my 5 secrets to amazing Planted Aquariums video I show the tank at 3 months. Thanks for watching!
Beast mode sucks your confined to a 40breeder
